    Folding@Home: 24 hour stats - April 2, 2009

Wow. I remember when 1,000 ppd made you a lock for the top 10, if not top 5. I had actually climbed as high as #11, and now 3,600 ppd doesn't even guarantee you top 40! These young whippersnappers and their fancy rigs, with their new-fangled GPU's... Keep up the great work everyone!

The 3rd Folding@Home Holiday Season Race in December 2008

If so, it's due to the fact that the MOBO I got for my new quad was DOA :| Oh well, it was still a great race

Strange Temps w/Q9550 and Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR

I just upgraded this rig last night from an AMD X2 5200+. New CPU/mobo is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR motherboard and Q9550 with stock HSF. No overclocking yet. 8GB of RAM (4x2GB Geil PC-6400) and a Sapphire Radeon HD3850 512MB video card. Upon booting and poking around in the BIOS, the...

The 3rd Folding@Home Holiday Season Race in December 2008

Well, she's up and running, but with the 2 leftover WU's from the dual days. I'll work on getting a couple SMP clients up on her tomorrow. Did I mention that I love Christmas? :P

The 3rd Folding@Home Holiday Season Race in December 2008

Just received my new Intel Q9550 from Newegg. Granted, it's only replacing an X2 5200+, but should still be a bit of a boost once I get her online....

The 3rd Folding@Home Holiday Season Race in December 2008

Geeze, and I was still one of the "big guns". Sadly, my ppd hasn't quite kept up with the rest of the folks here, not to mention some of the new guys. Oh well, at least the fun of the race hasn't diminished any!

Poll: Is there interest for the 3rd Holyday Season Race in Folding@Home

Count me in...though my production has been pretty stagnant and all these new folks have flown past me...I'll still give it a go!

    Old Fart Roll Call

Yeah, but better to be an old fart and linger than to vanish in a flash... The more grey I get, the more distinguished I feel. And if I break wind at inopportune times as a result, that's just the price I (and others) must pay :D

Been a long time since I've been listed among the MM's :D Yeah, I'm still around, just far, far too busy. Thankfully, not too busy to Fold :P Thanks, GLeeM, for all of your hard work! And Congrats/Welcome to all of the new faces and folks who are hot on my tail. I've got plenty of...

    Whitelist methodology on *internal* firewall?

Totally agree. Until you limit the data access or at least understand what access that users have, the rest simply makes others in the orgainization feel good. I actually argued as much in this article for Bank Technology News.

    Whitelist methodology on *internal* firewall?

cmetz, That's why I'm more concerned about user data access than employing an internal whitelist. Right now, we have users who have access to far more information than they would ever need to do their job. Even worse, for much of that data, there is no monitoring/logging in place. I'm...

    Whitelist methodology on *internal* firewall?

In theory it's a great idea. My issue is that with all of the other projects that we're working on that are much higher priority and have more immediate and more significant benefits, it's not something we're staffed to handle.

    Whitelist methodology on *internal* firewall?

First some quick background: I work for a multiple entity financial holding company with roughly 30 locations and 5 companies. Single point of external connectivity which is heavily fortified and actively monitored. Additionally, we have dedicated firewalls in addition to the routers at each...

Co-sign. Though I'd add that using 4GB may be nice, but using 8GB is just awesome :D

    Should I buy Vista?

If you're inclined to do so after all the horror stories, then go for it. You'll be pleasantly surprised. If your network is a workgroup, not a domain, and you don't plan on setting up domain anytime soon, then Home Premium might do, but bear in mind that it lacks some of the administrative...

Small home network (server, two kids PC's, and one for the adults). Plus, since I work at a small community bank, I've been able to commandeer a handful of PC's there as well. Throw in my parents' PC, and those of a few friends who are kind enough to help out, and it makes a small...

OT: need some advice for real life

Personally, I've always favored the suit. Preferably a dark gray or navy blue suit, white shirt, and red tie. It's a very nice contrast and just says "professional". It shows you want the position, are mature, and take the opportunity seriously. If the company is VERY casual, then a sport...

Sorry it took so long for me to chime in on this thread, it's been a busy New Year thus far, starting with my oldest daughter's broken arm on 1/1. Where to begin... Well, I live in tiny Delaware, and have done so for all but 5 years of my life. I married my college sweetheart nearly 14...
