Just completed my yearly donation to Child's Play. My mom works in the dermatology clinic at the Childrens' Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa, WI. She always gets a little teary-eyed when she opens the letter notifying her of a donation in her name to the hospital. Those kids are special...
It's amazing what they can do with all the stuff that gets flushed away. Though city treatment plants handle mostly industrial wastes. Some facilities generate more effluent than the city they are in. The MMSD (Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District) takes their sludge and dries it into...
I was driving home from work when I was in Memphis when a pigeon swooped down into my grille. I felt really bad about it, but there was nothing I could have done. I think it had a death wish.
Another time, I was driving home to Chicago on Lake Shore Drive. A squirrel made it across to the...
Better get a warm-mist humidifier. It evaporates the water instead of atomizing it. My wife has reset our Logitech Harmony remote a few times after shocking the bejezus out of it because our apartment is too dry. We had two humidifiers, and it still wasn't enough for our 750 sqft apartment.
RCN cable in the Chicago South Loop. Though we watch a lot of network TV, I could probably get away with an HD antenna and some sort of DVR, Mythbox perhaps? We'll see how the finances work out.
My wife likes to sleep with her arms up. I almost knocked myself out when I rolled over on her elbow and hit my temple. I woke up and saw stars. Then promptly fell back to sleep.
Nope, I won't see another Hayden Christensen film. I just can't shake the scene where he killed all the Sand People: "And the women...and the children...". Ugh
Network setup
Cable modem --> BEFW11S4 --> 1 wired computer + 2 wireless laptops + Wii.
The laptops keep losing their connections. Resetting the router for < 10s even restores the connections. No periodic frequency that it'll drop out. I thought it was overheating, so it's sitting on...
I was just in NY (2 weeks ago) and they have a plan in place to NOT rebuild. I think the new plan (http://www.wtcsitememorial.org/fin7.html) keeps in mind that to some, it's a graveyard. It's tasteful and a good memorial for the sacrifices of the innocent that were victims there.
Former resident. Great place to visit, but awful place to live. Check out the Civil Rights Museum, Beale Street, a chicken place called Gus's (not too late at night), Sun studios. Have fun!
