    Overclocking 939 motherboard with AGP

I think DFI do a Socket 939 NForce 3 board now.

I'm bored and want to overclock a P2....

You need soemthing to raise the FSB. I think the multiplier was locked on most PII's. You might need to cover some of the pins to raise the Vcore too. The Celerons did much nicer overclocks....

Anyone heard of CACJE Opteron 144 stepping?

AMD Opteron 146 OEM OSA146DAA5BN CACJE 0546BPMW Purchased from Scan in the UK Does 260x10 = 2600 @ 1.5V on a DFI Ultra D with an XP-90 + Panaflo. Tried clocking the memory down but it doesn't help. It needs 1.5V to be prime stable. My previous CPU, a 3000+ Winnie, did 270x9. I...

    What Is Hyperthreading?

For AMD 64 bit processors have 2 modes, 32 bit and 64 bit. Which mode it is is decided when you boot your OS. If it's a 32 bit OS it goes into 32 bit mode. If it's a 64 bit OS it goes into 64 bit mode. Hence why you can't run a 64 bit OS on a VMWare virtual machine if the host OS is 32 bit...

You might need to press F2 (not sure of key) to get all the BIOS menu's. I don't think the S-ATA drives are locked on this board.

    "Official" DFI nF4 Ultra-D / SLI-DR Thread

All 4 power connectors to motherboard must be used. 24pin ATX 2.0 PSU must be used (at least 480W strongly recommended). A 20 to 24 pin adaptor is not recommended. Normally Dimm 2 must be populated (one of the later BIOSes I think gets around this). Use the orange slots for dual channel...

    DFI LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D

Nah not really. Use a 24 pin PSU (ATX 2.0) and plug all leads in (including Molex and floppy connector). Wouldn't even think of overclocking until you know it's all stable. There plenty of useful info at the DFI Forums Read the critical and non-critical stickies.

    My new DFI Ultra-D experience

For the DFI beta BIOSes there are normally 3 versions labelled -1,-2,-3 Each of these has a different RAM table, each of which is better for different RAM chips. Can't remember which is which.

A8N-SLI - How serious are the SATA problems

It's been a while since I've used my Asus A8N-SLI, but AFAIK the disappearing drive issue only affects Maxtor drives and occurs on all NForce 4 boards. It can be fixed by a firmware update to the drive. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.php?p=89506&postcount=12

    A good, cheap, 64 bit non-sli mobo

I would probably go for an NForce4 board, probably one of the Nforce4 Ultra boards. (ultra adds Gigabit LAN, NVFirewall - worthless as it's crap, and S-ATA 2.0).

    A good, cheap, 64 bit non-sli mobo

PCI-Express, AGP ? No of SATA ports ? Budget? Overclocking? The DFI NF4-Ultra-D is a cracking board but I'm guessing it's out of your price range?

    Your favorite chipset

Probably Intel 440BX, only let down by that lack of a 1/4 PCI divider. Intel 865 (Springdale) probably equal first. Great clocker and great feature set. Mine was one of the early PAT capable ones :) NForce 4 Ultra is good, but let down in a few places, mainly it's firewall.

    "Official" DFI nF4 Ultra-D / SLI-DR Thread

My experience with Asus A8N-SLI - max o/c I could achieve was to 230MHz HTT after much effort. With everything else exactly the same apart from the motherboard I can reach 260MHz HTT with my DFI NF4 Ultra. The Asus still cannot work with 1T timings above 250MHz, either. AMD 3000+ Winnie...

Why do a lot of people pick Dfi???

Had an Asus A8N-SLi but have switched to a DFI UT NF4 Ultra-D for better overclocking. Winnie 3000+ CBBID 0502 (not the greatest overclocker) with Asus Max O/C 230MHz HTT after much tweaking with DFI Current O/C 250MHz HTT, with very little fiddling. Probably go higher with some tweaking.

    Oh oh... it's baaack...!

Normally I've found when i've had this with this board, the XP CD won't boot - gives an NTFS.sys BSOD. It requires a doctored set of Win2k boot disks to get to a recovery console (doctored to stop ntfs.sys loading). CHKDSK needs to be run so that the system can mount the partitions. I've seen...

    Oh oh... it's baaack...!

Had similar problems with the A8N-SLI It seems when it crashes it corrupts the disk and or partition table. Unsually even after repairing the disk the registry is so badly trashed that a clean re-install is required. Not sure if this is a board or chipset 'feature'. Got a DFI Ultra which...

    *** Official ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe (nForce4) Thread ***

It's not the NForce4 Memory controller as it doesn't have one. It's the memory controller in the AMD64. The drop is not really due to dropping to 333DDR (See the large memory thread to see dividers don't impact the AMD64), many people can force 400DDR in the BIOS. The real cause of the drop...

    Practical Benefits of Overclocking

I don't consider buying an 3rd party heatsink + high grade thermal compound an extra expense as I would buy one anyway. The cooler your CPU is the happier it is. (I didn't use the retail heatsink in my parents non-overclocked machine). As far as paying the extra for quality RAM and PSU, I would...
