Thanks for all the input.
For now, I'm thinking I'll go for the 285 GTX and see how my power supply and E6600 handle things, then go from there if I need to.
To tell you the truth I'm not the hardcore gamer I once was. I play TF2, L4D, SC and some WoW. For me Playability is much more...
F!
Well, my crazy volt moded and O/Ced EVGA 7900 GT lasted me almost 3 years and now it's showing signs of no return (Green distortion, even at POST). :( I'm looking at the 285 GTX but I'm wondering if my PSU can hack it and even if it could would it be worth it considering my sad CPU status...
I'll need milk... and a badge too.
This game is worth buying. Online play is much more fun than playing with 1 or 2 others or worse yet the laughable AI. As long as all the players have dual core, 6 and 8 player games run very well. Playing the same person or AI gets old after a while.
It's true that one player starts a game session but there is no "hosting" with Supreme Commander multiplayer. It's all done via. peer to peer not client server.
Multiplayer performace is effected by your friends computers CPUs as well. So if you have a quad core OCed to 4.5GHz and they have a...
Umm... the most recent review at anandtech.com will give you a good idea

If you are not in a rush:
Although not out yet, this is "expected" to be the best air cooling you can buy with money...
The reviews on the Monsoon II looked close to the Ultra 120 Extreme for performance but it sounds like peltier and heatsink solutions need to be well planned out for the amount of heat.
Does anybody have a IFX-14 review or a place to purchase it or even a guess on the price? Jab-tech says...
The Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme is the best air cooling you can get. If have money to burn then spend $150 on a peltier sink like the Vigor Monsoon II. The performance surely does not justify the price, not to mention the extra power needed to fule the peltier portion of the rig.
The Andy does perform close to the old non-extreme 120 ultra. Not to shabby for $40 US.
My plan is to run overclocked and have speed fan adjust my fan voltage based on CPU temprature. I like my computer as quiet and overclocked as I can get away with, so I don't mind spending $15 more to buy...
Scythe INFINITY $58 US

VS
Thermalright ULTRA-120 Extreme $55.69 US ($64.50 CAD )

Where did you find the Scythe INFINITY for ~$28?
Price breaks on april 22?
Are there issues with the p5b-e and the north and south bridge cooling solutions?
It seems the RAM market expected more people to purchase Vista and need an upgrade. Because of this mistake, I expect the ram prices to stay low for a while.
The Ultra-120 Extreme...
SupCom is playable on 4 player games 500 unit limit. On a 4 player game 1000 unit limit it slows to a crawl in late game, maybe ~5Fps, even with every single graphic option turned off. SupCom is the first game to use dual core fully to make it more playable at larger game sizes. I want to play 8...
It sounds like you both are suggesting that there is some reason to wait till something better comes along? Explain...
What the best overclocker for E4300 right now?
Ok, it?s official. Supreme Commander is my daddy and I must have a computer that runs 8 player games. This is what I plan to upgrade to so far.
$169.00 Intel Core 2 Duo E4300
$239.99 GeIL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 3-3-3-8 PC2 6400
$145.99 ASUS P5B-E
~$60.00 Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme (Can not find...
I turned all the video options down as far as they would go and it didn't help much if at all.
Dual cores seem to be the resounding answer here. I kick myself now, who knew good games would utilize them so soon? I had planned on my rig to hold up until dual core software was more mainstream...
My computer isn't junk but this game still lags me when playing 4 player 20 x 20 maps 1000 units.
Anybody have hardware that does not? (At 1920 x 1200)
If your rig can handle it post your hardware please. I'm guessing the lack of a second processor is killing me.
This is what I'm thinking of at the moment...
G.SKILL Value Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231032
From the reviews looks like it wont hold CAS2 at 230MHz though ;(
I'm looking for a set of 1GB DDR1 sticks to alleviate my Battlefield 2 and Company of Heroes woes.
Here are some specific requirements:
Must run at 230MHz+
2-3-2-5 timings
=<2.8V
Works with my motherboard (Asus A8N)
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Been there done that, still herky jerky. Every now and then it will "slideshow" but fraps reports frame rates around 70-100 all the time. I'm guessing it may have to do with the 1920 x 1200 resolution I'm running it at that causes even low textures to respond poorly.
My hardware is in my signature. I would prefer 2-3-2-5 timing and as much overclocking as I can get but I don't want to go balls out on price considering DDR2\Core2 blah blah blah.
I'm just looking for a more playable Battlefield 2 at 1920 x 1200.
Personally If I were the cause of my card breaking because I did not take the proper precautions or took to great of a risk I would be damn sure it would not happen again. I feel that people taking advantage of a company is harmful to the good intentions of an ?open? RMA procedure and to...
I would say you F?d your card somehow or it was one of the ?faulty? ones. But if you told me you had 4 cards go bad 4 times in a row, I would surely say it?s likely some other external factor coming into play or EVGA hates you and is sending you the bottom of the barrel cards out of spite. ;-p...
I'm going to take a wild stab and say 4 times in a row is a bit too "common" to rule out the card's environment. But who knows, I suppose its possible, just not likely. Even being very generous: By saying 1 in 10 of the cards is faulty and he's had 4 cards. The chances would be 1 in 10,000 that...
I agree 100% with KutterMax. It certainly looks like a heat issue from the screenshot. Especially if it works fine for a while then the problem presents itself. Not to mention 4 new cards ate it in the same part of your case.
I would take the side off your case and point a "house" box fan in...
I just got my EVGA 7900gt in yesterday. Same Infineon memory modules, 6 purple caps, 2 smaller blue/green ones as Mucker's pics show. I noticed that some of the numbers on the purple caps were diffrent then the old card. Will keep this thread updated on results.
It is true, i've experinced the before and after. Very true if you have "blanking" problems. I think the graphite from the pencil mod can muddle up everything when it gets blown around the other electronics. Others claim the cards arn't cleaned well before shippment and have semi conductive...
