Best slot to install sound card into?

I am about to put together my new system, and this has always bugged me for years: What is the best slot on the motherboard to install the sound card into? Because of the sometimes nasty problems from WinXP PCI steering, is it a bad idea to install in Slot 5 (which is the farthest away from...

Which brand of 6800GT is best?

Leadtek. Best heatsink. Best fan. Totally quiet. Best price still, probably. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814122195

Is this a good deal for a 6800gt?

The massive copper heatsink cools great, and the fan is extremely quiet. I could not hear it in my computer. Unfortunately, I think I had some quirky hardware compatibility problem, so I had to put my 9500 Pro back in. Now I have to build a new computer just to make use of my 6800GT (well, I...

SONY PSP is a piece of crap

Ridge Racer seems to be a killer app as well. It's sold out everywhere I've checked. The overall scores of all the games in the launch lineup have been very high. Check www.gamerankings.com and click on the PSP section.

SONY PSP is a piece of crap

I just wanted to post that I won a PSP in a drawing, so I didn't have to pay the hefty $250 :) The game prices are killing me, however. :( Twisted Metal Head-On is freaking awesome, and everyone with a PSP should buy it. The best part is that you can connect to the internet multiplayer...

What is wrong with me? I haven't upgrade my base system since '03

I built my current PC in May or June of '03. It's a P4 2.53, ASUS P4B-533, 1 GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9500 Pro, 160 GB WD HD, etc. The rest is in my signature. The 9500 Pro I had in my 1.4 T-Bird, so I reused that, plus my CD/DVD drives, Hercules sound card, keyboard, monitor etc. The only upgrades to...

I hope the Asus 6800 Ultra PCIe board starts dropping soon... I can't afford a $750 video card!

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 90nm retail version at ZipZoomFly for $290

Ohhhh, I see. Thanks for the clarification. I just checked it out, and indeed, the Winchester core is much more power efficient. Good thing to know before I buy a new CPU.

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 90nm retail version at ZipZoomFly for $290

I'm confused. Isn't this the same thing Newegg has had for a couple of months now at 270? Or is the Winchester core something completely new?

    Samsung 910T vs. Viewsonic VP912b

Wow! The Viewsonic dropped in price by $100? Anyway, there's no question. Get the 912b! It is far superior in everything. It has the best panel on the market today.

    Uncannily good UT2004 Peformance

I have a P4 2.53, 1 GB RAM, 9500 Pro... ONS can be a freakin' slideshow at times. DM is very smooth though. Also, Assault is pretty intensive, and framerates are pretty low. I run at 1152x864 resolution.

    was the Mitsubishi 930SB Discontinued

Mitsubishi's monitor division merged/got bought out by NEC, so NEC is producing the Diamond Pro monitors now. [EDIT] Nevermind, I think you mean that the 930 and it's NEC equivalent have been discontinued, and that may in fact be true.

    A few LCD questions

I was a die-hard CRT fanatic until I saw the Sony Xbrite 19" LCD in the store one day, which uses the same panel as the Viewsonic 912b. It actually produced better color than my Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 920. I was amazed.

    A few LCD questions

A 17" LCD measures 17" exactly in viewable area, whereas your 19" CRT probably has a viewable area of around 18". So the 17" LCD would be smaller still. I'd go for a 19" LCD if you can afford it. Plus, in my opinion, a 19" LCD is the perfect size/native resolution combo, since they use...

Do the Sony Xbrites and the Viewsonic 912 share the same panel?

I've got a question, since you're the proud owner of an HS94P and all: How are the black levels on it? It was hard to tell in the store, and I didn't adjust the contrast/brightness, but it seemed like it couldn't make a true black like a CRT. I think the black level is the biggest hurdle for me...

Do the Sony Xbrites and the Viewsonic 912 share the same panel?

Thanks for posting, sellmen. That's really awesome. I read that the Sony uses two backlights, and I figure that the Viewsonic uses only one. But maybe that would improve the black level on the Viewsonic. Either way, those are some nice looking LCD's. It actually shocked me to see that they've...

Do the Sony Xbrites and the Viewsonic 912 share the same panel?

Today I saw a Sony HS94P Xbrite 19" LCD monitor and wow... It looked amazing! I couldn't believe how vibrant the colors were! They were honestly better than my Mitsubishi Diamond Pro. The black level looked good for an LCD, but I couldn't test it out with any games (it was in Sam's Club... no...

Can playing games on a non-native resolution for a LCD damage it?

Omg, this LiquidVideo 17" LCD I tried last night, has probably the worst interpolation ever. Anything less than native res, and everything turned into a pixelated mess. Which, by the way, can any LCD's actually produce a "black" black? Because I was trying to play COD on that piece of crap...

    6800 Ultra In Stock

    6800 Ultra In Stock

I remember I got the Voodoo 2 about two days after it had been released. I kept calling Comp USA to find on in stock. Had to drive 80 miles just to get one. Whatever, that's not the point... The point is, that at the time, it was the best video card you could buy. Extremely powerful. And "only"...
