Hey, I'm glad to see the thread still going despite my hiatus! I still look here but have been busier than ever with college. I'm definitely a little behind on LCD innovations. But next time I'm in market for an LCD I'll have to catch up with things. :-)

Honestly the lack of the A-TW polarizer isn't going to change things that much besides the viewing angle and darkness of black. The IPS panel is still excellent at distinguishing tones and staying true to the gamma curve. The A-TW polarizer is a mere extra. While people may frown on the WUXI2...

You could get two of these: http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX24.../dp/B001O9EUSO I usually don't like ViewSonic but what choice do you have at this price? They are probably OK. They are only 1920x1080 (true HD) resolution. As I say don't expect quality at this price. It's too cheap for...

I would not really bother waiting! The Dell 2209WA is a great deal as it is. Are you sure you want 1920x1080 resolution at 22"? That's pretty small text...

But, the T260's response time is pretty slow and its color setup is fairly sloppy. (Probably similar for the T260HD) http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/monitors/display/samsung-topaz_10.html#sect0 I would go for the ASUS and get a PCI tuner if you want to watch TV. That gives you...

Yea....the LCD market is based off of speculation now, without any actual data.... Where are the reviews? I got tired of sifting through TNs when all of them are great for gaming and at the rate they come out and disappear there are few reviews of them. I'm starting to think the best way to...

Yeah....... sorry. It does not help that the LCD market is so volatile. I'm going to try to find models available in the US to post up. Many of the reviews are foreign or only concern foreign monitors, which makes it very difficult to find US equivalents. Sometimes it is guesswork. If I...

I'm not familiar with the U2410's settings, but probably only sRGB is close to the sRGB space. The rest are variations closer to Adobe RGB 1998 maybe with different color temperatures in them. The profiles let the host OS (probably Windows) know what kind of color space the monitor has (which...

Hey there -- I'm glad there has been lots of active discussion since I've had my "hiatus". Yeah...I don't think I'll be nearly as active. Just not much is going on in the LCD/flat panel world, but when something big does, I'll be the first to discuss it. Especially OLEDs... Wide gamut is...

The NEC LCD2490 as Zebo has said is the best choice but if you absolutely cannot afford this then maybe the HP LP2475w if you can do color management with those programs. It is actually not so bad, as I was enlightened to by a forum member here. You pretty much won't be able to tell.

Very doubtful. The Eye One 2 is perfectly fine and will calibrate already to 3-10x what your eye can differentiate, anyway. Besides, they use the same hardware, at least according to some info I found on the net.

Something tells me there will be no rev to fix the uniformity issues. Dell can not fix that themselves, LG needs to fix their panel. Try an ASUS TN panel as recommended in the OP. I should be recommending the ASUS panels for office work as well as gaming, however I guess this was an...

The T260HD is not too good. I would try the ASUS as CrystalBay did. For gaming I am thinking TN is the best idea for you, and the ASUS has best-in-class response time.

Perhaps the uniformity issues are a reason not to put it on the list right now. Although, does it have more problems than the 24" LG H-IPS I already recommend? I'm not sure... It looks promising, though. I kind of forgot about it when I was waiting for reviews. Good to see ToastyX got a...

If you are moving from a 20WMGX2, you might want the LCD2490WUXi. It is also standard gamut. I moved from the 20WMGX2 to the LCD2690...well it's nice, but quite a change from sRGB. Sometimes I wish I had the true sRGB panel.

Yes, I am almost certain it is a TN, due to the price and viewing angle specs. The Samsung 2333SW is a TN. Some of the suggested monitors offer 1920x1200 resolution at 24" and have S-PVA and H-IPS panels, far superior in terms of viewing angle. The suggested ones also offer wider color...

I think if you got a colorimeter you would have much better luck getting them to match. They are only different because of age probably. Over time the brightness would get dimmer, but that's probably about it. LCDs don't have specific color drift like OLEDs... The only way is to set the...

    C++: Local variable etiquette

I have implemented doubly-linked linear and circular lists for my C++ class. I think you are asking whether it would be faster to have a global variable that can be reused instead of redeclaring a local one every time? I'm not sure about this... And although it's poor practice, leaving a...

The closest equivalent would be an Apple Cinema 24", because it's glossy. I'm not aware of any other 24" non-TN glossy panels... However, the NEC LCD2490WUXi is the closest non-glossy equivalent.

My goal is to collate all the info on the web and objectively judge LCDs... from what I can tell, the U2410 is a fine monitor that you don't need to be afraid of. I'm sorry that you want to stay away from ASUS, because they have the best monitors at this price range. Samsung's TNs are subpar in features and quality. But this is up to you whether quality or service is more important. Now, Samsung has a cPVA at this price range. Check out the f2380...

At 60 Hz, one frame is (1000/60) milliseconds long, which is 16.67 ms. So 33 is about 2x16.67, being 2 frames. NEC is generally 2 frames and the Dell can vary. The Dell is better due to its game mode, which if I recall is what reduces it to 1 frame (typ).

I am very surprised that your 172T (PVA) looks more clear. I'm not sure why that is. I think that if you calibrated the white point of the LCD2490, your initial perception would be put to shame. :) So this is my recommendation. First, the 2490 is a professional IPS sRGB panel with soft...

Dell monitors are very universal in the office. They have great ergonomics and many businesses can get discounts from Dell. I think that I will stick by this choice. The 2007FP is also grainy, but I found it great for text use. I think you may want to take some time to get used to it. You...

I would recommend a 26". I like the font size the 26" size offers. I don't know, I would not expect this soon. I would maybe expect wide gamut eIPS, but that might be awhile too. 1920x1080 is 1080p and it is the 16:9 ratio that TV people are used to. It makes it more convenient to...

I would look into the U2410 or LP2475w. The PX2611W has a disturbing lack of connectivity for its price, and it's certainly not better than the Dell or HP in image quality (quite the opposite, perhaps?) As for coating, well I really cannot tell you. I don't think it really matters. You may...

I'm not sure that 22" LCDs can get any better right now. Not practically, at least... The Samsung 2233rz and Dell 2209WA are your best gaming choices, as listed. ASUS's 22" equivalent is the VW224u, but I'm not exactly sure about its performance. Try the recommended 22" panels instead...

Likely, because Apple is coming out with a 27" at the same time. Coincidence? Nope, LG Display just released a 27" H-IPS panel (LM270WQ1). That will be implemented by a few select brands, and I have little doubt one of these will be Dell especially after seeing that leak on the website.

20 ms is really not enormous. That's just over one frame average (of course, you cannot lag by only part of a frame). So we should probably look at the "mode", which is likely 16 ms. Not bad at all. I'd certainly give it a try if I were you. Very unlikely you will experience any lag.

    Videocards and Graphics suggestion

Yes, I would rather there be a subforum than just one thread for LCDs. It is very hard to follow one thread and overwhelming. There are simply too many different topics to discuss. For instance there could be an "IPS Panels" sticky and "Recommended Panels" sticky and then threads about new...

I don't know. Both have had issues with uniformity. There is a higher resolution LUT and updated panel in the U2410, the benefits of which are questionable. But they certainly aren't making it worse. The LUT should result in improved grayscale performance. The HP has a soft anti-glare...

Jodiuh, Generally speaking, 22" LCDs are easier on the eyes because of lower pixel density. One won't have to squint as much to read the text. Few people use a high enough DPI to reap the benefits of higher pixel density, in terms of readability, thus it is better to have lower pixel...
