    Refresh rate problems

Not at all. If you have something like florecent lights in the room it can cause an effect like a visual resonant frequency. Look at a CRT through a video camera. The freqencies don't match so you see a line moving through the screen. If the frequencies match or are multiples this line is more...

USB 2.0 vs IDE for Data Transfer

Go with Firewire or USB. Even if the transfer is 10-20% slower than IDE you will save alot of time not hassling with hardware. Firewire 400 data transfers are about 20% faster that USB 2.0. I usually still prefer USB because every computer has a USB port. Makes the equipment a little more...

    First Build- with PICS!

Nice job. That's a great system. One suggestion though; cover up those rear slot openings. You don't want to much air being sucked in through the back there. It will ruin the airflow through the case.

Wow. I never saw this website before.

I found this the other day as well. I like the www.DNSreport.com link on the page. Rackspace messed up our DNS last week and it's a quick way to check on it. They were quick at correcting their error, but it still took a few hours for the fixes to propagate.

    Wireless problem

First thing I would do is see if the pc is getting a valid IP address. Can you access the router menu through a web browser? This will confirm that the router and pc are talking ok.

    Refresh rate problems

Why not run at a more reasonable refresh rate. I've never seen the need to go over 100Hz. Why do you need it so high? The irony is that at 120Hz you may end up with the same eye strain or flickering problems people have at 60Hz beacuase it's a multiple of the 60Hz line frequency.

Is Audigy 2 zs better than Intel HD audio with realtek ALC 882?

This was about 1.5 years ago, I took the card back. As soon as I pulled it out everything worked fine again. BTW, I don't have a good ear for sound; there may have been a difference, but I couldn't hear it.

Is Audigy 2 zs better than Intel HD audio with realtek ALC 882?

I had nothing but driver trouble with my Audigy 2. I'm more than happy with my onboard Realtek sound, and I really couldn't tell the difference.

    Very Slow Startup

The jumper setting for a single WD ata drive is actually no jumper. Master should only be used in a master/slave setup. CS will work, but the sticker on the drive wil say no jumper for a single drive.

    DNS Lookup Issues

Ok, you'll need the blood of a newborn goat, the feather from a South African Ostrich..... Oh nevermind, have you tried kicking it? Have you tried other nodes like mixed maybe? I really am out of ideas and haven't been much help so far. I wish you good luck.

    DNS Lookup Issues

Nbtstat is used to display NetBIOS over TCP/IP. I would turn it back on. The only item listed is a FQDN. For things to work smoothly you should see NetBIOS names there. I think Spidey07 has the right idea with the WINS server. Or you could create a LMHosts file for each computer (as long as...

    DNS Lookup Issues

To use Netbios names I believe you need either WINS or an updated (accurate) LMHosts file. I would either start WINS or take a look into the LMHosts file. Use Nbtstat -c to see the Netbios names and their resolved IP addresses. I don't believe this is a DNS issue at all because FQDN's work...

    WInXP won't load

The above Microsoft link is great. Just be sure to make some batch files to make it easier. But before you go to all that trouble, boot to the recovery console and run a CHKDSK /F /R This may take a while, but I have had it fix your exact problem and it may even repair the cause of the...

title change: I CAN find the mac address, it's just 00-00-00-00-00-00

Here is how to change a MAC address in XP: Use the <regedit> command. Locate: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318} There are a bunch of folders named 0000, 0001, 0002, etc. Look at the 'DriverDesc' data values until you find...

    File Sharing Help?

I would try adding static routes on the XP Pro machine. You can do this with the 'route add' command in the command prompt. You can play around with the command without the -p switch and the routes will disappear when you reboot. When you have added the 2 routes use the -p switch so that they...

    Router and 3 connections

    Router and 3 connections

It sounds to me like the router is acting like a switch or a hub. Many broadband companies hand out 2 ip addresses per connection and you may just be getting those. On a Windows XP machine go to the run command and type: cmd <enter> then type into the command promt ipconfig <enter> If...

Accessing my D-link DI-604 with my browser???

Regarding the last digit of the IP address: Assuming a standard subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 The first 3 sets of numbers is the network ID. The last number is the host ID. You can have a host ID for your router or PC of 1-254. "0" (all zero's in binary) cannot be used as it is used to...

I Messed Up My Computer Really Bad

Take a deep breath and relax. What you did is not that bad (and reseting the bios was most likely the only solution at that point). While I have no idea what all your old settings in the BIOS were, I can tell you you need to turn off the onboard sound in the bios. That logo that you see on...

    Why men shouldn't marry nowadays...

My guess is that anyone who says those things about marriage and families were either a bad husband or father or both. Their problems lie with their selfishness. You can only get out of a family what you put into it. I actually feel sorry for these bitter men. I can just look at my kids...

What's all this talk about dual channel ram? Neither the board he selected or the suggested socket 754 are capable of dual channel. Of coarse, this only makes the choice of a single 512 stick even more obvious. The recommendation for the socket 754 is spot on, but get the Athlon 64, not...

Audigy 2: ZS retail vs. OEM

A couple of my games were crashing with my audigy 2. I tried everything, but had no luck. When I pulled the card out, those games would not run at all. That was the end of creative for me. Their drivers suck bigtime. I am now very happy with my onboard sound. :) -Scott
