    7950 GX2 coming in 2 weeks

I first heard about the 7950 a couple days ago. Sounds like it will be the new king, at a relatively competitive price (for today's standards anyway): (Inquirer article)

    Intel to develop a GPU?

Intel has a lot of resources. However, don't you think GPUs have made incredible strides in computational power relative to CPUs? Could part of the reason be that they are developed by smaller companies with a more targeted passion? Bigger is not always better...

    Intel to develop a GPU?

According to the Inquirer: Do you think Intel could hope to compete with Nvidia and ATI at this point?

Asus releases the first physics card this May

Yep, and the game devs will also determine which physics solution most gamers gravitate toward. My prediction is that they won't want to take the risk of consumers not investing in dedicated PhysX cards, so most game devs will go the Havok/Nvidia route at least to start. Unfortunately, that...

Asus releases the first physics card this May

Hopefully the low end PPU will be under $100, for those folks that say they aren't willing to pay any more than that. With enough game support, I don't doubt that even the more expensive high end PPUs will sell like hotcakes. It's a chicken and egg thing right now though, and the ball is in the...

Asus releases the first physics card this May

I've been looking forward to this. With Ageia (and now Nvidia/Havok), looks like the pressure will be on software developers to start giving us games that support physics processing. It will be nice when there is enough critical mass to support actual physics-based game features rather than just...

AM2 only delivers 3-5% performance increase

According to the Inquirer (yeah, I know), AM2 cpus running at 2.4GHZ with DDR 2 800 ram are only delivering a 3-5% performance increase: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=30290 Sounds like DDR 2 is already available at faster speeds though, and DD3 support may not be far off. Still, I'm...

Well, it looks like Conroe @2.66 eats a fx-60@2.8 for a light afternoon snack...UPDATED ARTICLE AT AT!

I'm thinking about just getting an Xbox 360 for now (mostly to play Oblivion), and holding off on the upgrade until Conroe/G70-R600/Vista.

    Oblivion has gone Gold

Thanks for the links, wanderer27. With the recent news on Conroe though, I'm leaning toward holding off upgrading my PC until September/October. I may just go with an Xbox 360 to play Oblivion now :)

    Oblivion has gone Gold

I've been trying to decide whether to upgrad my pc to play Oblivion, or whether to buy a 360. What are others doing? I'm worried that the graphics quality will suck on the 360. I played KOTOR on my pc and loved it, but KOTOR II on the Xbox (even with HD output) was crap.

Just wait a couple weeks for the X1900XTX, which should beat the 7800GTX 512 in quite a few games and will actually be available.

G71 and R580: Where are the Previews?

G71 and R580: Where are the Previews?

I think many on the bleeding edge go with the "don't wait for tech, or you'll always be waiting" adage. But if they KNEW a new card was coming out in a few weeks, offering X% performance increase over what they would buy otherwise, they might be willing to set that adage aside. I do think the...

G71 and R580: Where are the Previews?

I don't see the correlation between previews and having a hard launch date. They are two separate things. Why not allow the review sites to post their benches, without providing a specific release date for the cards? Knowing how a card performs is different from knowing when it will be in your...

G71 and R580: Where are the Previews?

If the next gen cards are slotted to release this month, why haven't we seen any previews of the cards? In the past, the previews typically come out a few weeks before the cards are available in retail. Are Nvidia and ATI using a different marketing tactic, or are the release dates overly...

    Crossfire limited to 16X12 resolution!

Why the hell would someone invest in a dual card setup and play at less than 1600x1200? One disappointment to the next with ATI these past few months.

Should i add 2 more sticks of slower ram?

Unless you are using highly memory intensive programs (video editing, BF2, EQ2, etc.) then you are better off staying with 1GB.

How many of dont actually enjoy gaming anymore?

For me, hardware is a means to an end. I only upgrade when the games I want to play demand it. Right now, I can play everything I want to play on my 3 year old system. That may change when Civ IV, HOMM V, AOE III, and (especially) Oblivion are released.

Ok, Ati R580 is successfully taped-out...

Like the article says, I'm sure timing will depend on how well the R520 fares against the 7800GTX, and how soon Nvidia cranks out the 7800Ultra. I've lost a lot of faith in ATI these past few months, so for all I know the R580 is just another bag of hype.

    ATI RV530 & RV515 specs revealed

By the time these come out, the Nvidia will already have released their low-mid end cards (7600, etc.) which I'm guessing will be at least on par with these specs. ATI has really been disappointing me lately.

    R520 in September

What he deserves is to have his comments taken with a large grain of salt, given his clear bias for Nvidia. I am more willing to seriously consider the comments of others that I believe to be manufacturer-neutral. I still read what Rollo has to say, and sometimes appreciate it, but again I just...

    Nvidia vs. ATI Stock

Check out the performance of Nvidia vs. ATI stock over the last three months. It looks like the 7800 has allowed Nvidia to continue on course, while the failure to produce R520 contributed to a 20% drop for ATI. I'm sure there were other factors involved in the plummet for ATI, but it is...

Also consider how often you are likely to upgrade. If you are the type that only upgrades every 2-3 years, you should get an X2 to take advantage of upcoming games that will be optimized for it.

Wait for the r520 or buy a 7800gtx?

I've never regretted waiting, but there have been times I wished I had waited. So I err on the side of waiting. I say, push it as long as you reasonably can, until something comes out that demands an upgrade. Then go for whatever is best at the time.

R520/Crossfire/7800U News from reliable not under NDA source

My point is that G70 and R520 were promoted as being revolutionary products. We have had some generational leaps like that in the past, where a new architecture burst onto the scene and blew away the cards currently on the market. Clearly this is not the case here, and we are seeing nothing...

R520/Crossfire/7800U News from reliable not under NDA source

Bah, 9000 3DMark05 is disappointing to me, just as the 7800GTX let me down. Not to say that either card is a slouch, but there was so much hype about the "next gen" products, and reality is nowhere even close. I'll bet that EQ2 chokes on the R520 just like it does on the 7800GTX. :disgust:

16X SLI - the end of jaggies

Rollo sometimes has some good things to say, but like many others I get sick of the constant ATI bashing. It makes me question what he says about Nvidia, knowing how biased he appears to be. Why can't people just accept that both companies are great, and promote whatever card happens to rock...
