    Acer Aspire 9800

If I'm not mistaken, it looks like the Qosmio G30 might have an HDMI port on the rear of the last photo on this link. Looks like we might truly have the ultimate multimedia notebook to date. Link

Dell Inspiron 8500 not charging battery

I had the same problem with my i8500 (God, did I hate that laptop). However, I had to get so many parts replaced during its lifetime, I can't remember exactly which one I had to replace to resolve this issue. IIRC, I called tech support, placed a work order, and had them replace the motherboard...

Inspiron E1705 to get Geforce Go 7600?

It looks like Dell might select the Geforce Go 7600 as another option for their 17" Inspiron line (at least I think that's a 17" in the picture). Good to see so many nice forthcoming GPU options from the major OEM's/ODM's. Link

    Acer Travelmate 8204 (Napa) Review

I think they offer enough of their nicer notebooks in the U.S. The Ferrari, Travelmate 8104, and Aspire 9500 series are among their best IMO, and they're all available from U.S. etailers. The one thing I do hate about Acer is that fact that all of their notebooks come with a std. 1 yr...

    Inspiron E1705/9400 - Napa already?

I agree. I guess they're going for the whole E=Entertainment convention or something. But how they group 1705 as the successor to the 9300 is beyond me. EDIT: I just noticed the 9400 on the U.S. Business site. Why the hell are they using two different model #'s for the same machine at...

    Acer Travelmate 8204 (Napa) Review

Kind of light on the benchmarks (no gaming benchmarks), but it does reveal that the 8402 has better battery life and general performance than its 8104 predecessor. Link

FEDORA CORE 4 on acer travelmate 4021

I used Fedora FAQ and Linux-Laptop last time I installed Fedora Core on my Inspiron 8500 (I couldn't find the 4021 on Linux-Laptop, but you can look for other 915GM notebooks that have Fedora Core 4 instructions). Fedora Core 4 should have built-in kernel drivers for the chipset and integrated...

    Inspiron E1705/9400 - Napa already?

I don't think Asus has an exclusive deal on the X1600. For example, Acer's new Yonah-based TravelMate 8200 features it.

    Inspiron E1705/9400 - Napa already?

Link I think it's a little strange that the only two GPU options are Intel and the Geforce Go 7800 Ultra. Of course, these might not be the only config options (and this is for Dell's UK site), so maybe there will be a midrange option for an MR X1600 or something. Opinions?

    Lenovo Thinkpad Z60t Review

Have you tried their Education discount program? You can view the discounted pricing on their Web site, although I'm not entirely sure if you're restricted to your particular state's contract (restricting you to certaing configs) or if you can just customize your own and still get a discount...

    MSI MS-1036

I know that Yonah is all the talk this week, but I just thought I'd share my enthusiasm for this little gem. It's about time a 17" Turion64 notebook with decent graphics (...cough, cough HP dv8000) appeared in the U.S. Go Xmeld! Now if only we could see some dual core Turion's. Forgive me if...

Will laptops of today be able to run Windows Vista to it's fullest extent?

Like others have said, I suppose you will be able to run Vista 32- or 64-bit on current notebook hardware, just not very well, especially not the eye candy features of AeroGlass and eventually Avalon (and let's face it, who doesn't want the eye candy?). I think the primary limiting factors would...

    Thinking of getting a laptop

In terms of what exactly (i.e. how much system memory is allocated, how much dedicated RAM comes with the GPU, etc.)? For the Radeon Xpress 200m, you can look at ATI's Web site (or the notebook manufacturer's site). For the Acer's integrated SIS Mirage graphics core, you can refer to SIS's...

    Thinking of getting a laptop

Based on what you described as your usage, the shared memory won't really make a difference. In terms of the HDD, are you going to store a lot of data like video? Also, I've seen that Acer at CC, and it seems like it's a solid machine. I suggest you go to your local store and check it out...

    Thinking of getting a laptop

Inspirons generally don't have very good build quality, so if you're more inclined towards Dell, I'd go for a Latitude (a bit pricier, but far superior build quality). The HP looks great on paper (for your usage), except for the fact that its battery life won't be anything to admire b/c of the...

    Asus A7Dc

Well, the screen's resolution is 1440x900, so I think an X700 is appropriate. Compare that to the only other 17" Turion64 notebook, the HP dv8000, which has a resolution of 1680x1050 and a Radeon Xpress 200m GPU, and I think's it's a bit of a better value. DDR333 does kind of suck, though. It...

    HP dv8000

I'm asking because wasn't the dv4000 originally offered with integrated graphics only? I see that it's now offered with a Mobility Radeon X700, but since I haven't looked at that notebook in a long time, I have no idea as to how long it's been offered with that option. Gateway mx7515 AMD 4000+ 2.6ghz laptop

In the case of the mx7515, the GPU does matter a little since the machine uses an X600 with Hypermemory. Thus, he might have up to 64MB of system memory being used to page data in and out the GPU's local memory.

    Gateway mx7515 AMD 4000+ 2.6ghz laptop

Here's a pretty good selection of Turions. You can get the MT-40 or ML-40 from these guys. I've never ordered anything from eWiz, but they have a decent ResellerRating. I don't know what you consider a decent deal, but that's a lot cheaper than a PM 2.23GHz 780 (~$650).

    Geforce Go 7800 GTX

The main reason graphic design and A/V people use Mac's is that Apple got it's foot into those industries' doors very early in the game (whereas M$ focused on core business applications).
