    Budget video card recommendation

9800 Pro will run fine on a 250-watt power supply. It comes with a seperate power tap not because the card is overly power hungry, but because some motherboards had problems supplying proper voltage to it across the AGP bus. The 9800 Pro is a bargain at current close-out pricing and the...

any good microATX socket 939 board out there?

Hmm, not sure where to point you, saxguy. I have the MSI RS480M2-IL. It's a socket 939 microatx motherboard based on the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 chipset. It's full-featured and should fit nicely in the Aria case. It comes with the Xpress 200 integrated graphics processor, but there isn't any...

    motherboard standoffs help

Hmm, those red rubber disks are normally made of a non-conductive material. They shouldn't have shorted your board directly. You did make an incorrect assumption, however. Your motherboard should be screwed directly to hex nuts that screw into the motherboard mounting plate. A good solid...

    AMD Motherboard?

Consider the MSI RS480M2-IL. It's a socket 939 motherboard with Radeon Xpress 200 integrated graphics as well as 16x PCI-E graphics support. This is good from your standpoint because the integrated graphics supports ATI's Cinema Display mode. The IGP will work in conjunction with your...

    19 inch CRT

I can't imagine you'd be dissatisfied with either model. Viewsonic and Samsung both make superb CRT displays (as well as LCD). I did find an awfully sweet deal at Newegg, the Iiyama Vision Master 1451. It's a flat screen 19" CRT priced at $136 plus $25 shipping: Iiyama Vision Master 1451...

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro does not work with doom 3

Make sure you download the Doom 3 1.1 patch. I remember my Radeon 9700 had a lot of rendering isssues with the Doom 3 Demo when it was first released. ID actually released a demo patch for ATI users that fixed it. My 9700 ran Doom 3 just fine at lower resolutions, but I decided to upgrade...

    ATi rumours

ATI's last quarterly profits were actually larger than Nvidia's, and both companies are quite healthy. ATI's future earnings potential is also quite rosey: 1) XBox 360 chip supplier 2) Ramp up in desktop and notebook chipset business 3) Introduction of ATI multicard rendering solutions...

ASUS gets into the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 game

ASUS is reported to be shipping their new P5RD1-V Radeon Xpress 200 motherboard for socket 939 Athlon 64 processors. This new board is radically different from MSI's (excellent) RS480M2-IL motherboard in a number of ways: -Lots of overclocking features implemented in system bios -Full ATX...

What is the most stable nForce 4 Ultra motherbaord out now?

Don't count out the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 motherboards. I bought the MSI RS480M2-IL back in February and it's been terrific. I have a Winchester 3000+ and a Radeon X800XL on it. It benches slightly faster than any NF4 Ultra boards that I've seen numbers for with the same components. The...

Inexpensive Video Card for newer games

The video card price guide published here at Anandtech earlier this week had a deal for a Radeon 9800 Pro for about $140. This is a very solid choice if you can't find a 6800GT down in your price range.

    purchasing new video card (help)

You can save about $40 by finding the 128Mb version. You won't see any performance advantage with the extra video memory. Check the video card price guide on Anandtech's home page for vendor info. All things considered, 9800 Pro is still a very solid performer if you don't want to spend...

A Radeon 600 Pro or a GF6600 vanilla would be a good choice for your budget. I haven't seen benchmarks comparing the two directly, but I believe the 6600 vanilla would have an edge in overall performance. Oops, found a comparison, definitely go GF6600.

    PCI Video cards

I scrounged up a 1Ghz T-Bird and Radeon 9200SE for my nephew, and it runs a lot of games surprisingly well. He plays UT2k4 on it and it runs well, he's only at 800x600 with medium detail, but it's smooth. He also plays a lot of Diablo 2 and a couple of other titles. 9250 vs...

    Which one for "budget" box?

    RS480M2-IL RAID will NOT work!

While I personally don't have any useful information for you, I have read previous threads concerning the SATA RAID controller on the MSI RS480M2-IL. Folks on these forums have gotten the RAID controller working, but I remember for certain it was not with the disk that came with the...

    MSI RS480 Video Outputs

I wouldn't think you'd need to rely on the IGP's TV output for both signals. Do the TV tuner cards you're planning on using not have a TV out on them? If not, an X300 video card with TV should do the trick at a reasonable price, I would think...

    Nvidia Card in ATI Board

The X700 Pro is a bit slower than the 6600GT, but it's available for about $35 less than the 6600GT ($143 vs. $178 @ 128Mb PCI-E). The X700 Pro is also available in a 256Mb version. The X800XL at $269 (ATI Store after 10% discount) is significantly faster than the 6600GT and is normally...

    Anyone try MSI's new board-MSI RS480M2-IL

MSI's owners' manual for the RS480M2-IL recommends a 350-watt power supply. With the newer 90 nano CPUs though, this probably isn't as critical. A Winchester A64 3000+ and an X800XL should run fine on this board with a decent 300-watt power supply. I can't put my money where my mouth is...

    Does anyone use OS/2 anymore?

There was a lot of banking software written in DB2 for OS/2 back in the early nineties. OS/2 wouldn't die because a lot of banks didn't want to replace all of their accounting infrastructure just because IBM got it's ass kicked by Microsoft on the desktop. OS/2 was a pretty cool product, and...

Will P4 beat AMD with it also now having the NF4 SLi Board

SLI availability for Intel platforms doesn't seem like it's going to have a significant impact on the overall landscape of personal computing. AMD is still faster for gaming than Intel, SLI for the P4 just puts Intel back in the ballpark with regard to fps. What Intel is usually better at...

Recommend PCI video card with DVI for under $70

I'd actually recommend the 5200 chipset options. The 9250 and the 5200 should actually perform in a pretty similar manner. The 5200 has DX9 feature support that the 9250 doesn't have. On the other hand, it's tough to beat ATI's DVD playback hardware assist. If you watch DVDs a lot on your...

    Sempron 2400 running at 1000

The Sempron 2400 actually clocks around 1600Mhz. If you think you have the clock jumpers/settings right but your system is displaying 1000Mhz on boot-up, you probably just need to update your motherboard BIOS. Otherwise stock settings for your CPU should be about 167Mhz x 9.5.

    MSI RS480M2-IL Issues

Hmm, don't know what to say. No problems with my board, but I will vouch that the MSI RS480M2-IL will run HL2 just dandy under XP Home. I seem to remember there not being a PC speaker connector on my board when I installed it. It's tough to beep with no speaker, but I may not be remembering...
