    Windows 98SE network adapter woes

The computer at work recently had some issues. I think someone aborted an installation of Verizon Business DSL software (because the service wasn't actually hooked up), which I think led to the vnetsup.vxd, etc. missing files error on bootup. I followed the directions on the Microsoft website to...

    Samsung cell phone users, help!

Yeah, I left it plugged in overnight. I see what you're saying, but the LED light that indicates that the phone is even charging didn't light up. I don't know if it would light up if the battery was completely dead and incapable of holding a charge. I might call around and see if there are any...

    Samsung cell phone users, help!

Yeah, it supposedly passed a "functionality test." I thought it might be the battery too, but I assume the phone should still turn on when plugged in, even if the battery is dead. Thanks.

    Samsung cell phone users, help!

Cliff Notes: Used phone DOA, am I SOL? So, on the off chance that someone has an n400 here... I just purchased one off eBay to replace mine, which took a trip through the laundry. I called in the ESN before I got it, and they confirmed that it's ready to be activated, so I bought it. Seller...

Would these be Yate Loon fans?

I don't think so, I think the Yate Loons have model numbers that start with D12. Like the medium speeds in my case are D12SM-12. That one looks like something else. Coolermaster, maybe?

No, no virtual drives. Just the one optical and a single hard drive.

    Optical drive acting weird

Apparently my cd-rw/dvd drive only likes to install things with one disk. Recently while installing a game that takes three cds, the machine crashed every time I tried it. Another game off of a single disk installed just fine. Tonight while installing something, I had to change disks, and the...

    Puzzling issue...

Well, whatdaya know, a reinstall fixed it. Hot damn. Now I'll be running benchmarks after every program I install to see which one borked stuff. Thanks for the replies, all.

    Puzzling issue...

I actually hadn't been running SP2 yet, but I might try a reinstall and see if that fixes the problem. Kind of a last resort, though, as you would probably guess.

Yup, tried all that, reinstalled drivers, etc. No change. 30 processes running, no suspicious ones.

    Puzzling issue...

Well, a Fortron BlueStorm didn't solve the problem. Could it be something with the video card? I can't figure this out for the life of me. Anyone have any ideas?

    Recommend Case fans Please!

These medium speed Yate Loons are nice, as well. Move about 70cfm at full throttle, quiet bearing, and with a controller can be basically silenced. Cheap, too. No rpm sensing, though.

    Puzzling issue...

Just in case anyone's interested, I replaced the 6800 with an old GF2 from another computer and ran Aquamark again. GFX score was way down, obviously (like, 250 or something disgusting) but the CPU score was up around 9800 again. So, I'm gonna try another PSU. Thought the 350w in my 3700BQE was...

    Puzzling issue...

An update: Found an old Aquamark score and noticed that while the graphics score stayed relatively the same, the CPU score has dropped 7000 points since then. What could cause a cpu score to drop like that? Tonight I screwed around with voltages and stuff, no help. Anyone?

    Puzzling issue...

Hmm, interesting, thanks for the reply. Is it possible that the board would "go bad" after a time though? With this same setup I used to get the better scores, but then it just got worse. Did your chaintech always have the low scores, or did it happen all of a sudden?

    Puzzling issue...

bump for the weekday crowd Edit: I suppose this could have something to do with a Steam update, but I would think it wouldn't affect Aquamark as well, right?

    Puzzling issue...

Update: Have tried defragging, virus scans, playing around with various AGP settings in the BIOS. No change. Set everything back to stock, no change. Thought it might be the RAM, so I ran Memtest overnight, and it turned up no errors. I'm out of ideas. Anyone? I would really prefer not to...

    Puzzling issue...

Something seems to have happened to the old puter lately. I have a 6800nu, and I've noticed that HL2 no longer runs at 12x10 with high detail settings, like it used to. Now it's completely unplayable at anything more than 10x7. Ordinarily that wouldn't be of a concern to me, since I used to play...

Need Ultra Quiet Case + Fans

The medium speed Yate Loon is still available, albeit without RPM sensing. Undervolted, it's pretty silent, and can push something like 70 cfm at full blast (but not quietly). D12SM-12

    Cooling conundrum

Good point. Think I'll pursue the case fan route (because I'd like to get some more air over the hard drive) then think about modding the side. Could either use the stock 120mm or another fan I have lying around. Thanks for the thoughts, everyone.

Will the Zalman 7000BCu fit my vnf3-250?

This is kinda old, but I missed it the first time. I have a 7700AlCu on that same mobo, so I would think you'd be fine with a 7000B if it fits in all the other parameters (case, psu, etc.)

    Cooling conundrum

Yeah, I was pondering that too. Like cut a hole in the side or something. Either intake to cool it down or exhaust to get rid of the heat. I guess that might work.

    Cooling conundrum

The point is to not mess around with that if possible. It still has the warranty and if I screw it up I'm out $200, whereas if I get 4 fans and a controller I'm out $40 and it can be used in all future builds.

    Cooling conundrum

The GPU temp actually seems to be ok (58c/68c idle/load), hot, but on par with other 6800s. If you're thinking I got one of the bum cooling ones, I think it's ok. Mostly I'm more concerned about the heat that it's adding to the case. I'd rather not tear the heatsink off to replace it with an NV...

    Cooling conundrum

Well, I was thinking of that, but that would require taking off the pretty serious heatpipe/heatsink thing, and I haven't heard of anyone doing this. Wouldn't it? I'll go look again at the Arctic site. Would rather not be a guinea pig for something like that. And yeah, I actually do want a...

    Cooling conundrum

I have a Gigabyte passively cooled 6800nu in an Antec 3700BQE case. Now, the case is nice and quiet, and cools pretty well, and obviously the 6800 is quiet. But, man is that thing hot. It's like a small fire buring in the corner of my case. Even with my 7700AlCu my CPU (A64 2800+ at 2160Mhz and...

Ah, I gotcha. That would make sense. And true on the Zalmans, though I would still expect lower temps.

Cool?N?Quiet - how exactly does it work

Does it mess with the HTT multi in the same way? ie putting it back to default? Cause it would sure cause problems if you were accidentally running 275FSB and a 5x HTT multi. :)
  35. S

    AMD64 2800 temps

That's true (isn't it the 130nm process, and not necessarily the socket type?), but those temps seem a bit excessive, don't they? Motherboard sensors are notorious liars, so part of the problem may lie there. Are you sure both heatsinks have been seated correctly and are making good contact...

    Zalman 7700-AlCu on Chaintech VNF3-250

Anyone have this HSF/mobo combination? Looking at pictures, it seems like the backplate supplied with the Zalman is the same as the backplate already on the mobo. So, is it worth it to replace it? Not a huge deal, I know, I'll probably take the whole thing apart to make the installation easier...

    first build horrors

I was installing a 6800, and there were 4 BIOS updates available on the web site. So, I grabbed the new one, flashed it, and lost all video signal. Put 5200 back in, got next newest, put 6800 in, blind-flashed it, no worky. put 5200 back in, got next newest BIOS, put 6800 in, blind-flashed...
