    First SSD advice

Dear forum, So I'm in the market for my first SSD. It will run on an Asus M4A89GTD PRO motherboard with 4GB RAM and a Phenom II X4 955. My graphics card is a HD5870. I have 1GB of internal storage and 1,5GB of external storage, which is plenty. On my SSD I want to store MS Office...

You wrote that you saw them in some shops? I haven't seen any G3 drive yet. Neither any prices or specifications.

    SSD Recommendations

Dear forum, I'd really like to get myself a SSD. I was thinking about either a Intel X25-M, an OCZ Vertex 2 or a Corsair C300. All in 120 GB format. From what I've read: OCZ Vertex 2 is the value choice. If you want better performance, pay the price premium (40 euro) for the C300 (I have sata...

I feel the LCD thread recommendations is a little outdated. But it was helpful understanding other aspects from monitors.

I've had alot of help here for my new pc build, thanks for that! Now I'm looking for a nice monitor to go with that pc. The graphics card is a HD5870. Budget is 300~400 euro (400 only if it's worth it). Monitor is for gaming purpose. Currently I'm looking at: HP ZR24w Samsung XL2370 Samsung...

Look at this. http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/compare/49/256052;246222 The Vapor-X version seems like an expensive card. It can be made cheaper by picking this one. They are now closer. Choices choices.

Yes ofcourse. I'm starting to think it's not worth the 80 euro.

My build thread, help much appreciated!

Yeah true. I was thinking to keep things cheap and simple since this is my first build and upgrade down the road. Ofcourse some quality things have to be bought at first, like a case and a psu (maybe some RAM) and I'm set. Was thinking about keeping things cheap and going for a mobo like this...

up to 1500 $ system for Starcraft II

I lol'd And as for performance in alot of RTS. I know from experience that mfenn is right. A slow computer (one of your opponents) can really slow the game down! Those games doesn't use alot of bandwith so it's rarely the internet connection. Have fun on StarII, maybe we meet .

My build thread, help much appreciated!

Ok thanks alot MFenn. That explains it completely. I've been browsing around more and I've seen mixed messages. Alot of them advise to go for AM3 mobo with either 955 or 1050.

Haha that first thing would be so very true! Please understand that I want to know what I'm starting and don't want surprises in the end. So last question about this matter, is "not using" USB 3.0 not having a connection in the USB 3 slot OR disconnecting the card from the PCI-e slot?
  25. J

My build thread, help much appreciated!

First of all let me thank you for imput, really appreciate it. And I might be exaggerating here but if I pay a price for a graphics card I want to leech every fps of performance out of it, why be satisfied with 97% of bandwith if you can have 100%? Ok let me put it this way. If I don't use...

So if I understand you correctly the P7P55D (around the same price) has the exact same PCI-e lane bandwith limitations as the Gigabyte?
  27. J

My build thread, help much appreciated!

You mention the P7P55D-E because it supports USB 3 right?
  28. J

My build thread, help much appreciated!

In relation with the ram, I thought I ctrl-f'd it well, ah my bad sorry for that. The bandwith problems make sense but appear to be unimportant. The Asus P7P55D isn't that much more expensive though but lacks USB3 support. But more advanced ASUS boards are much more expensive indeed! I'm...

I found out one more thing. The primary PCI slot running at x16 for the graphics card will run at x8 when USB3 is enabled. So maybe this MOBO isn't such a good idea.

The RAM isn't in this list: http://www.gigabyte.us/FileList/MemorySupport/mb_memory_ga-p55-usb3.pdf Is that a problem?

That saves alot because the TX650 isn't that expensive. The 500GB F3 isn't worth it IMO. Check the price differences...

Disable Auto Headphone detection...use laptop speakers and headphone jack?

What happened to me was the following. There was a 3,5 jack plugged in the front audio out. I think I accidentaly hit it and when I took it out the 3,5 jack the laptop refused to play the music through the speakers. When I looked inside the jack to check whether things were broken I saw a red...

That Gigabyte board you post is sold for like 110 euro's. If you want to look up prices http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/ is a good way to go. Just insert the model number in the box there. Look for the shops with 4 or more stars and a green truck which means the product is on stock. The MSI board...

I was thinking the same thing. I knew that both sockets are EOL though but thanks for reminding me. Suddenly the 860 becomes more and more interesting. The bandwith "limitations" don't matter to me just as the USB 3 and Sata 6. I don't believe in those right now, they also are very expensive on...

    Computer stutters occasionally

Not to hijack the thread but, the symtom you are describing while playing games occurred here too. I was playing Counter-Strike 1.6. What do you suggest then? Dropping Intel and going for AMD? 6 core 4 core? Or trying to fit in the more expensive 1366 socket? Mbevolution recommended the Intel socket. After some calculating, choosing the 870 will certainly cost more than 1000. Some money can be saved by picking the 5850...

Thanks for the informative post. Most people seem to go with the i5 though. The price difference is i5 175€ vs. i7 860 241€ vs. the 137€ phenom 955. If I want to stay around the 1000 with the 860 alot of things have to be reduced in cost I think. With full bells and whistles (3rd party processor...

It's time for a new computer!

Socket 1366 will break the bank more. And as of the choice 5850/5870 I think thats a decision whether the extra % of performance are worth the extra costs. I read 5850 is the real sweet spot, the best bang for buck solution.
