Buying a new bicycle: can I bargain?

You might check with your local cycling club to see if they have any deals with local bike shops. Members of the club in my town get 10% off everything at one of the bike shops.

    The PC speaker dilemma

I just bought and I am planning to return a set of Logitech Z313 speakers. No bass at all coming from the sub. They might be defective...many reviews on newegg say the bass is either sufficient or even overwhelming. Either way, I am not happy with mine.

Ubuntu and Mint 12 Internet Slow

This thread helped me out. I downloaded the latest driver (8.027.00) from Realtek instead of the version mentioned in the foxhop post: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#2

Websites that store plain text passwords

The "forgot your password" page for a local online ticket vendor sends users their password in plain text. I just tested by making an account with a throwaway e-mail address. This is bothersome since a lot of people in the local community use the ticketing system and I can only imagine how they...

Can I connect my Hackintosh Dell Mini 9 to a PC monitor?

I have the same setup except that I'm running 10.6.5. The trick is that it does not work if mirroring is turned on. Here is the solution from another forum: open terminal first (without 2nd screen plugged in) type "mirroring off" (without quotes) but don't hit return connect 2nd display...

Damn these hamburgers look like twins

So eventually all the cows will be cloned from the same cow, then some disease comes along and cows become extinct.

I have half a keg of flat beer

You could make a lot of beer biscuits: 4 cups bisquick 4 tablespoons sugar 1 bottle of beer mix and spoon into greased muffin tin bake at 375 until brown (15-20 minutes)

College: tell me how to live

I agree with the get roommates suggestion. You'll meet more people and probably save a little money. Try to get to know your potential roommates. It can be a pain if your sleep/party/cleaning habits aren't compatible. Edit: Once you find roommates (maybe even while searching), be sure to...

Going to spouse's work Xmas Party

Mine is during the day for exactly one hour, and then I'm sure most people stay an extra hour to get their work done. My last job had a catered dinner with open bar and then drinks on the boss at the local pub afterward. It was awesome.

YAGT - I have no confidence - Updated

Assuming you aren't making this up, please talk to her in person before becoming Facebook friends. Maybe you could study together for the exam. Then you would already have something to talk about and you could add in some get-to-know-you stuff.

Motorcycle owners: How much protective gear do you buy for passengers?

I completely understand the need to buy helmet, gloves, boots, pants, etc for yourself. It seems like if you ever planned on having passengers then they should enjoy the same protection. Do you buy any protective gear for passengers as well? I don't own a motorcycle, but I would probably buy a...

so I go the brake shop...

What was he going to do if you refused to sign the disclaimer? Stop machining the rotors? Fix the cylinders and force you to pay? He probably could have just written down somewhere that he told you about the leaks. I would bet he's trying to cover up something, like damaging one of the casings...

New camera lens, darker pictures are grainy

It's probably a combination of the new lens and what the camera does to compensate. Your new lens doesn't let as much light in as the old one, and the camera turns up the ISO to compensate which causes the grain.

I would say that is fair. Around here the shops charged about $100, and I have a friend who works out of his garage and charges $90. Make sure they overhaul the headset, one of the shops around here doesn't do it for an overhaul. You might end up needing new parts too (cables, housing, chain...
