    GA-X58A-UD3R Boot Loop

Hey all, I hate to post another thread on this issue, as it seems like this is EXTREMELY prevalent among these motherboards, but I have a situation that seems different from any others that I have read - everyone else seems to experience this issue upon first building the computer, or within a...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

The adapter didn't technically "come with" the card, its just made by sapphire for eyefinity, and it got really good reviews on newegg. Still worth trying a different adapter obviously. If I can get it to where the difference is negligible, I am perfectly fine, considering this will only be...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Yea - cable is brand new and adapter is a sapphire one that goes with the card, so I DOUBT thats the problem, but I will pick up some different ones on the way home just to rule that out. Assuming no adapter/cable combination fixes this problem, then is there anything else to do? I ask...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Alright, quick update: Everything is installed and working properly - really happy with how everything worked out. I do have one problem though: With the 5770 I have 3 monitors hooked up - 3007wfp-hc (2560x1600) into DVI, 2405wfp (1920x1200) into DVI, 2nd 2405wfp (1920x1200) into DP -> VGA...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Yea, for whatever reason, Chrome temp/cache was getting up to like 4GB, so I deleted most everything in there, and I ended up effing up stuff (making me even more frustrated).....its much easier to just never even worry about it :). So would you say 60GB would/should be enough for boot/adobe...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Ok, got all my stuff in, and after further debate, I think I've decided to go ahead and get an SSD - it just seems silly to do this big upgrade, then leave out something like the SSD that could legitimately help a system probably more than any other upgrade I did, just because I feel like they...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Hahaha, this is what I get for being so hesitant - newegg's 10% cashback ended tonight, which means I lost out on about $80-85. This is all your fault David for making me question my 5770 :).

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

See, thats what I thought, but then David put this: You seem to know your stuff mfenn (and it sounds like what you are saying definitely disagrees with David's statement), I just don't want to ignore what someone else said either, considering its regarding a very critical element of what I...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Ok, this is a bigger deal than I thought :)..... First, how much of NV's claims are hype (AKA is it really going to be much better than the equivalent ATI card?) and how much is truth: http://www.nvidia.com/object/adobe_photoshop.html. If that is pretty accurate, then it seems like a...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

    Gosh, you guys are killing me :)! I had everything so perfectly chosen, and now I don't know again! Anyways, here is what I had chosen (1-3 won't change): 1. i7-930 ($200) 2. Gigabyte X58A-UD3R ($200) 3. Scythe Mugen 2 ($35) 4. Corsair TX650 ($70) 5. CM RC-690 Advanced II ($90) 6. GSkill 6GB...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Ok, been talking with a guy who does photo editing and he claims he can easily chew up 12GBs RAM working in a big file. He also does video editing and says he gets through 12GBs there as well. The guy is pretty tech saavy overall, just not sure I believe him. I'm not even saying I would get 12GB...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Yes, the P55 board has those features. Yea, I'm assuming 8GB was slightly better than the 6, but I guess I could also easily upgrade to 12 if necessary. I THINK I am leaning to the X58 now.....in addition to my photo editing, I will also soon be doing alot of video editing in which case it...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Gosh, I always hate this part of the build......I've got it (basically) limited down to two options and just can't seem to decide..... Option 1 - the X58 Route: CPU: i7-930 ($200) Mobo: ASRock Extreme3 ($190) OR GB X58A-UD3R $(200) RAM: (still looking for advice) G.Skill 6GB DDR3 1600 Set...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Haha, ok so I guess not much truth...... With that said, would a program like photoshop or adobe premier (presumably in conjunction with other memory heavy programs) benefit much from tri-channel RAM and/or the added capacity space (which say could allow you to put in 12GB)? Also, is there...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Ok been reading around more....how much truth is there to the thought that the 930 will be better than the 750 for multitasking and programs (ie: photoshop) that use lots of memory bandwidth (because of the increased RAM bandwidth of X58 and hyperthreading on the CPU)? The 750 gets alot of...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Also, I've been reading about the respective overclocking of each system, and neither seem too tricky. With that said, now that I am not gaming nearly as much, I can't see myself doing significant overclocking - more just the easiest/basic OC without screwing with voltages or anything....just...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Haha, I've done enough windows installs to last a lifetime.......certainly always fresh installs when moving drives to new system. Anyways, just called MC, and the i5 750 is 170 and i7 875k is 300, so I guess that at least rules out the 875k. Based on current prices, as mfenn showed there is...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Ok, I will check MC to make sure that deal still isn't around in-store. Yea, the X58 mobos are freaking pricey (I've never paid more than $100 for a mobo, so this is throwing me off a bit). It does look like I could save $50 or so on the board by going P55, and while the i5 750 seems to be...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Man, I love these forums....much better than the photography forums :) Quick Notes: - I will be keeping my old rig and taking it up to our lake house to use to edit pictures there over the weekends. So won't be scrapping anything. - Thanks for the 5750/70 advice. I am pretty sure I looked at...

    New NON-GAMING (OMG!?!?) Rig -Advice?

Hey all, used to be on these forums non-stop in my college years - always needing help with my latest gaming rig. Well, I guess I've matured :) now and moved onto more "professional" computing tasks - I've actually started my own photography company and need a new build to accommodate that. I'm...

    Dual 22 inch monitors

Hey guys, my friend has just offered to buy my Dell 2405fpw for $550 and so I was considering purchasing two 22 inch monitors to replace my dell. There is no way I could take a significant "quality" drop from the 2405, but I really want to have dual monitors and I wouldnt mind gaming on a 22...

    8800GT crash/lockup issue

Just thought I would wrap this whole thread up with one last update: Last few days of playing games has given absolutely no errors, plus I am now overclocked to 710/990 (havent even tried pushing it any further, that was just an arbitrary bump). Card seems rock solid and of course essentially...

    8800GT crash/lockup issue

HUUUUGE update for anyone still around: I finally took my card out and discovered that indeed, the screws on the back of the card were loose. Tightened em up and voila, load temps in CS:S now dont get any higher than 50. Thanks DarkRogue and everyone else who helped me out with this. Guess...

    8800GT crash/lockup issue

Little update: Playing CS:S for about 30 minutes never got core temp above 77 degrees. On COD4 for about 15 minutes max was 87, and avg was about 84-85. Is this still too high? It seems like it is, considering this cooler, but it doesnt seem waaaaay out of the ordinary.

    8800GT crash/lockup issue

"Even if it is misreporting temps, that doesn't help you with the problem at hand." Agreed. Also Dark, I know you came in a little later, but yea, I mentioned in my first post that I underclocked my card back to "stock" settings of 600/900 and have absolutely no problems. Temps still...

    1) Yep, fans spinning. I would hope I am not that big of a noob, but yea - worth checking. 2) Yea that piece of plastic is only on the right side. That seems standard though - look at these pics from this review: http://www.tweaktown.com/revie..._3_the_card/index.html All the heatsinks...

    8800GT crash/lockup issue

My guess is that it is not a heat issue, mainly because there have been tons of people with this general problem, and many had temps in the low 80s. Also, my temps are not any higher when running at 675/950 than 625/925. Plus, who knows what the temps actually are, but I do know that this card...

    8800GT crash/lockup issue

ok yea, a little extra info Currently running ATI tool at stock settings (650/950) - no errors for 14 min. now. GPU temp is averaging about 90, core chip is about 50. CPU load is 35-40. Also, just to see what happened, I set the core to 675, and memory to 975, and within about 20 seconds I...

    8800GT crash/lockup issue

Alright, about a week ago, I finally caved and bought the ECS 8800GT with accelroS1 out of the box overclocked to 650/950. Keeping the card at stock speeds, CS:S ran fine for the most part at stock speeds, but occasionally it would lockup and bring me back to my desktop, where my printer...

Just ordered the abit, just seems like I will have more support from people if things go wrong. I have been following the IP35-E thread led by serpent for a while now, and although I missed out on the deals, I think the IP35 will be what I need. Thanks guys.

So hypothetically, if people ONLY used derivatives to hedge, could one say that derivatives actually INCREASE stability?
