Do these components look OK for a new build?

Thanks! The computer is for my girlfriend, not a client though. We both work together from home. Same opinion on not overclocking?

Do these components look OK for a new build?

Thanks for the reply. Well, put everything together and everything is working great. Temperatures are pretty low so maybe I'll look into overclocking down the road? Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Do these components look OK for a new build?

Thanks for your reply again. I neglected to mention in my last reply that I did change the ram to 2 sets of HyperX 16GB (2 x 8GB). I was having issues finding a 4-channel kit of 8GB sticks that were recommended/tested with the motherboard. I'm hoping the two separate sets of two sticks won't...

Do these components look OK for a new build?

Thanks for the comments. Yea, we decided to go with the single Intel Core i7-4930K and changed the motherboard to the ASRock X79 Extreme6 The extra $1,000 not spent on the computer we're probably going to invest in another GeekDesk which are great by the way.

Do these components look OK for a new build?

Do you feel that a single Intel Core i7-4930K would be a better option since the performance is close to the dual xeons? The hesitation is that it reduces upgrade options a few years down the road. Thanks.

Do these components look OK for a new build?

Cool. Valid comments. She would like to improve both final render times and previewing times within after effects. Seems both are mostly CPU-driven. Some things in after effects are GPU-driven but not much. Goal is to pickup more 3D work as well. She's getting into playing around with particles...

Do these components look OK for a new build?

Thanks for your reply. She has already considered the mac pro but the raytracing features within after effects will not work with the amd graphics cards. Additionally, she's tired of only having one hard drive and does not like the idea of using various externals. There will also be other...

Do these components look OK for a new build?

So I posted here on this great forum in late 2010 back when I was building my first and only workstation for myself. It turned out great and haven't had any issues with it. Now, attempting to build a workstation for my girlfriend and I would be grateful for any advice or comments to the...

First-Time Builder Seeks Advice For 3D Workstation

Yea. I'm not super sold on the SSD if shortened life is a factor at all. The ATI card may be better overall, but from what I have been reading, the Nvidia cards seem to play nicer with 3DSMax specifically. Although I have not done enough research to know specific details yet. Also, if I do...

First-Time Builder Seeks Advice For 3D Workstation

Thanks for this. Would just like to add that max2011 technically supports GPU rendering to some degree with the quicksilver hardware rendering engine that ships default in max if I'm not mistaken. http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/ken/quicksilver_details_revealed

First-Time Builder Seeks Advice For 3D Workstation

In regards to the iray renderer and graphics processing. In my brief research, it seems that all CUDU capable cards do take advantage of the GPU. Right now there is more bang for the buck with the GTX cards but they supposedly don't last as long and run a lot hotter. Also read something about...

First-Time Builder Seeks Advice For 3D Workstation

Again, all great and valid comments. I spoke with a representative from HP that stated it was not a good idea to get a system with one processor with the intention of adding a second processor later. He claimed that because the processors aren't made at the same time, there could be issues. Is...

First-Time Builder Seeks Advice For 3D Workstation

Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions! Honestly, I was not expecting people to suggest buying a pre-built computer. I understand the importance of a warranty and technical support however. It would be a shame to have wasted all of the time spent researching components for the build...

First-Time Builder Seeks Advice For 3D Workstation

Hello, I'm planning on building a workstation computer. I have never built a computer before but have been researching a lot about what components will be best. Would be great to hear your comments and suggestions! The main software being used will be After Effects CS4 and 3DSMax 2011. The...
