no the plate does not have to be removed. just peel the plastic sticker off of it. its there to prevent scratches on it while shipping. if u removed the clear plate the card would not cool properly. the fan pushes the air thru the fins out the back of the card.
Looking up the motherboard yes its x8/x8 in sli mode. I myself have used sli in x8 and then upgraded to a mobo that had x16/x16 and used the same cards and as far as what ive seen it didnt increase performance much except by a few fps. sli adds more heat and sometimes driver problems but itll...
ive had problems with this and usually if u just keep unscrewing them while pulling up on the edge of the motherboard the stand offs come up with the mother board then u just hold the standoffs with pliers or a wrench and unscrew them. if its cross threaded it may be a lil tough unscrewing them...
it is definitely the heatsink. that heatsink really is not enough for that cpu especially if u unlocked the cores and overclocked it. as for the AS5 drying up ive had it happen when it runs too hot for extended periods of time.
thats really shoddy work. it looks like its not even put back together right. but as far as the wire goes its a black wire so its prolly just a ground. if ur really scared to put it in ur case just use the paper clip method to test if it even works.
yes the heatsink is removable from the shroud. and those full cover heatsinks are nice and fairly cheap. tho look at this http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1445/5/ it shows the internals and it has a sort of full cover heatsink that the shroud clips to. so hed have to keep that on in order to...
as for one that really only has a heatsink on it itd be kinda hard as ud have to cut out a large chunk of the heatsink for the water block. plus ud have to fasten wats left to the block since itd require cutting out the mounting points.
wat card do u plan on doing this to. itd help us see if...
so this would really only work with one that has a shroud on it. ud take the heatsink off put the water block on and any small heatsinks. put two holes in the shroud for the tubes and put the shroud back on. u could even run the fan to help cool the small heatsinks. itd look like this card...
The main place i buy from is newegg. And usually the accessories im not worried about because i usually have extras. As for an I/O shield, im not afraid to make one out of and old one :p. The main thing that worries me is do they actually test the product. Because its not that hard for someone...
Is there a higher risk for DOA products? Im looking for some feed back of peoples experiences purchasing things open box like motherboards or video cards and other hardware. I just wanna know what im getting into before buying one.
from the sounds of it, its being shorted out and if a standoff or watever ur talking about is touching the board where its not supposed then theres ur problem.
In my opinion you never know until u try. I have a 4870 that had one of the things on the otherside of the card behind the gpu break off and i thought itd be dead but it still worked perfectly.
I am replacing a motherboard in a Toshiba satellite A665D-S5175 laptop and i am wondering if the motherboard out of Toshiba satellite A665D-S6051 laptop will work.

is it rattling or just the air noise from its speed? one of my case fans has a bad bearing and its significantly different from rattling. my experiance with rattling was the fan on my video card vibrates and some pci covers that had some play to them, vibrated with it.
I have this problem too when an ipod is plugged into the front ports on my haf 912. It does the same thing but my mouse's wireless reciever or my thumb drives do not have the problem. Idk what it is thats doing it but id like to know as well.
So my brother wants a new case and also wants to dabble in water cooling. Im really the one who does most of the work on his computer. This will be my first time with water cooling. Im fairly confident of my abilities to get this done. The main issue was finding a case. The Shinobi XL starts...
after a little googling it seems it only has a 460 watt PSU. Thatd be way below my comfort zone for a power supply with those components. Ima say thats the problem. but you should check if it is the 460 watt or not. I dont deal with OEM computers for this reason.
Take a look at the NZXT source 210 case. Its a very well built case with lots of features for a budget case. Here is jpeyton's review of the case: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2223854
Im using the xigmatek gaia currently and its thinner than the 212 so it most likely wont block any ram. tho that fan blowin over the ram looks like its gonna be in the way of any tower cooler u put in there.
It wont clear those ripjaws height-wise. With the look of the pics that charlie98 posted it should clear width-wise easily. And if your case is atleast 8 inches wide it'll fit as long as there isnt a side fan above it.
It would clear my low profile ram if it went over them. Theres some room. It wouldnt touch them if they were the tall vengences plus they slim down towards the top. and as for the room on your mobo. To me it looks like it would fit but might be pretty close to touching. How many sticks of ram...
i have the gaia and on my motherboard it doesnt cover any of my ram. the stock fan it comes with is pretty quiet as well. what motherboard are you gonna be putting it on. this is the motherboard i have it on: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130235
From the looks of it the spacer is only used to keep the back plate away from connections on the back of the motherboard. Maybe a regular stock lga775 socket back plate would work. Idk know for sure though. Im not familiar with that specific cooler.
From the looks of the case its the same as a nzxt case i have but different external appearance. mobo tray and cages are all the same. even the tool-less designs are the same. heres the case for you to compare: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146025. i measured the one i...
Is there benefits to having it one way or the other. My case is a Haf 912 and my main concern is when its blowin out the back it pulls some air thru my fan controller on the front and dust builds up in it. Im just lookin for some input on this as im still kinda new to building computers.
not really. i have that case as well and it may be the smallest haf case but it still has plenty of room. Ram clearence seems to be the only thing to worry about. for the videocard the only thing you might have to do is remove the hard drive cage but even with it in it has plenty of room.
i know what you mean adamk47. i have the haf 912 and the back fan is offset as well. i recently switched the fan cuz i noticed the fan developed a slight knocking noise like its unbalanced. i now have a fan controller throttling down two scythe kaze maru fans on my heatsink to lower speeds than...
too be honest takin the motherboard maybe a bit of a hassle but its more of a hassle tryin to install the cooler with the motherboard installed. i just take it out. gives me good reason to go thru and clean the dust.
the side with the supports that hold the center is the side the air comes out. course u could also just turn the fan on and feel the direction its going.
with those mounting holes itd only take the 4 120mm fans. those large fan structure are circular in shape but those holes would require a square shaped structure.
