i had a build up and running. MSI x99a SLI plus motherboard had windows installed. all was good had mobo about a year with light use. Today i moved the machine to my main desk. i went to turn it on and it poped right off. I looked and there was a fan screw sitting on the motherboard. and i cant...

I need to install the driver so i can setup my raid array because wedmin isnt seeing any of the 3 drives on the card. It only detects the USB drive that is running Ubuntu server. Im new and my head is spinning. can anyone walk me through installing...

thats the ram as far as i can see its compatible.
As long as atleast 1 stick of ram is in i get no beeps at all. just power and fans spinning. i will try to take it out of the case tho, that is a good idea.
ok so my re-purposed box is giving me some issues.
its a supermicro MBD-X8STI-O LGA 1366
Xeon L5520
With atleast 1 stick of ram and no pci cards i get no beeps and no boot, no bios, nothing just fans spin and a black screen
Without ram i get 5 short beeps and one long at the end its...
Will freenas be able to use PLEX or other things like XBMC? i was under the impression it was just a basic file server platform.
Also what are the advantages to encoding on the server side, and what software would it require to be able to do that?
The box
Xeon Quad 2.2ghz
24 gigs ram
3x 2tb Raid 5
1 random hdd for os
1gb network on a 50 up 50 down line
My goal is to make a box that i can fill up with media ( music and videos) that i can then stream to a smart TV, computer, tablet or phone over the internet to myself in the outside...
That HP box would make a great footrest under my desk! thats a huge +1 to me lol
if i do my own build, what should i go for NIC? dual intel $35 cards be ok?
ok now that does make alot more sense i was under the impression it ran a proprietary OS and would be limited on configuration. this is a little more attractive to me at this point.
the thing is i dont want an external drive enclosures. i want a 24/7 box. my workstation is not economical even at idle for 24/7 so some windows configured network drive is not an option
im looking to build a simple home file server. It will be used for NOTHING besides offloading and backing up pictures and videos from my current workstation box. I will be using a basic 2 drive raid 1 setup. but i have a couple questions, mainly because i tend to overkill on hardware, but im...
ok so i bought my mac book pro used. It came with the creative suite, with like garage band and that stuff. The problem is the hard drive is going out after a fist slam. I have a new hard drive on the way but this is my first mac so i have no idea what to do. Id like to be able to keep my...
i slammed my fist on my laptop while watching a football game. My brute strength amazes even me sometimes. well the blow fell right on top of my HDD. My laptop still works, boots, restarts, surfs the web. But it has problems when it needs to access the HDD, for instance fast forwarding thru a...
does anyone have a fix for intake fans mounted to window grills on cases and being extreamly loud? i understand its because the blade positioning is close to the window grill but could a gasket help? how thick would it have to be?
ive seen several threads where people mention the power draw from furmark can damage newer Nvidia cards. (same with OCCT). is there anything else that is safe that can find errors as quickly as fur mark?
i use a headset that does not have a mic on it so i currently use a zalman clip on mic that is overly recommended online.. and well, its shit. even with the input jacks separated and all volume turned up it requires 30db boost for ventrilo and is very buzzy as you can imagine with that much...
LOL thats exactly what i ended up doing.. the transfer would hit some snag with a read only file or something then abort the whole thing. so i ended up just USB sticking it!
lol im alot higher than 1.20v :) thats the thing thats so frustrating, OCCT has AVX and im stable in that for over night.... its just prime 95 thats giving me shit in custom blend tests
no your 100% right... i have had this rig built since Saturday and have done nothing but stress test it.. its so frustrating especially when the errors can take so long to find. i dialed back a bit and was able to make it to 8 hours instead of 15 minutes in the prime 95 custom blend and ... so...
thats how mine is, have you figured out how to get it stable in prime 95 blend? i dont see how its not a prime 95 issue if its the ONLY test that makes the thing freeze..and its only when i do the custom blend and max the ram out. every other crash ive had is a BSOD. people say LinX ans linpack...
i was 50 lines passed in LinX max settings when i left for work and i ran OCCT with AVX and 90% memory last night a couple hours... if the linX makes 100 passes ill just chalk it up to prime95 being strange
prime 95 is freezing on the following test... if anyone knows what this test stresses...
i have an old desktop i need to get about 38 gigs of lightroom catalogs off of. would like to transfer it to my macbook for temporary holding. is there an easy way to setup a network drive that can been seen by both computers over my home network? i know how to do it in win7 but not OSX
no point in dialing back until you firmly establish the edge :) if it was crashing out in other applications or tests i would simply dial back. But when nothing gives it problems besides prime 95 which is a non signed app then i have to keep digging at it. but it is just annoying because i want...
usually a OC issue will BSOD or reset the box. but havent really overclocked for a few generations. Ill try memtest... but thats more of an error checker isnt it? does it detect stability issues or just defective memory? Im running the aida 64 memtest with 9 gigs and its been going fine for 45...

i have a somewhat stable 4.7 ghz over clock it can run pcmark and 3dmark and a prime 95 blend overnight. but when i run a custom blend and scale the memory used to 80% im freezing the entire system. no BSOD just a hard lock up. ive raised the vcore...
