[seekingalpha] AMD Responds To Kaveri Delay Rumors - "on track for 2013"

So much for AMD's PR department: http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20130807231051_AMD_Confirms_Delay_of_Kaveri_Chip_to_Early_2014.html From the article: "Advanced Micro Devices has confirmed that its highly-anticipated Kaveri accelerated processing unit that will features a number of...

Is my ASUS 660 Ti OC faulty? VERY Low min FPS in Batman AC

I can also confirm that DX11 is "broken". With 670 + 460 1GB as PhysX, all maxed, I got lot of stuttering ingame. I tried lot of combinations (for hours, stupid out of game settings and long intro ) and these are my observations: 1) Dx11 + Physx High - stutterfest (even if I turn down...

Have you thought about overclocking? It could give solid boost for free (or cheap, depending on cooler).

    Low fps gtx660 ? Help !

It's the CPU not the GPU. WoW can be really CPU intensive especially in towns, raids and areas with lots of people. And your i5 is so much better in WoW, or games generally. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/188?vs=363 -> Third from bottom. New GPU will allow him to crank settings up, but...

Vid card/monitor/game forces 24p@1080, unplayable please help!!

I have the same problem with Prince of Persia and Panasonic plasma Tv. My guess is that it chooses the lowest supported refresh rate. I have read that solution is to delete every refresh rate/resolution mode in CP except the one you want to use. Let me know if it works ;)

Latest Guild Wars 2 GPU Performance Data

I think, the last beta drivers (>month old at this point) should be used for GW2, at least I read it somewhere. I'm using them and have zero issues with my OCed 460 at 1920*1200 maxed with just shadows dropped down one or two steps.

"Sony's Thermal Conductive Sheet Expected to Replace Thermal Grease"

Exactly, the typical "out of factory, never going to be opened" stuff, where they use some el cheapo but long lasting TIM, the same that Intel uses with IB.
  8. A

"Sony's Thermal Conductive Sheet Expected to Replace Thermal Grease"

I don't have problem believing that it is better than stuff they use normally, but it is nowhere near the "enthusiast" class TIM we use, like AS5, NT-H1 etc.

    Video card oven trick WORKED

I would say it's pretty common. Still I'm sure there are people that never heard about it. Did it twice to my NB graphics, that notebook was practically indestructible zombiebook, which I kept repairing and repairing. In the end it looked pretty sick :D

    AMD's FirePro w9000/w8000 review thread.

How come? I see them performing pretty good for last gen. Generally they are either first, or second in benchmarks where AMD's new card work really well. Sometimes they fall off with lots of AA, but I can imagine they could be used for any of the tested software. That doesn't mean there...

    AMD's FirePro w9000/w8000 review thread.

While this is true, if you look at Quadro, it is able to get pretty consistent results everywhere. Of course where Firepro is working it is faster, but it better be, because it's new tech on new process. I hope AMD get their stuff together, because before end of the year GK110 based quadro...

    AMD's FirePro w9000/w8000 review thread.

And again, the performance is all over the place. Either it wins (sometimes by a lot) or it loses badly. We all know the potential is there, but the results sometimes are, and sometimes aren't. From the article:

Delidded my i7-3770K, loaded temperatures drop by 20°C at 4.7GHz

Not sure about that. Thermal conductivity of copper is ~400 W/(m·K), aluminum is ~250 W/(m·K). For example cured AS5 (whis is better than what intel uses in IB) is 8.7 W/(m·K), so really IHS is mainly just about protecting the die. IHS could help with heat dissipation if you had improperly...

Delidded my i7-3770K, loaded temperatures drop by 20°C at 4.7GHz

I would say, this could be true, if you were running w/o heatsink. But if you install heatsink on top of bare die it will act exactly as IHS, only the temps will be better, because it doesn't have to go through two more layers of "insulation" (tim under IHS and IHS itself). Unless there are big...

    AMD's FirePro w9000/w8000 review thread.

I'm not comparing AMD/Nvidia... I just remember all those threads "still no WHQL driver for GCN" for some it doesn't matter if it's WHQL or not, for some it does. But enough beating dead horse, you see it just as another nvidia fanboys "teh AMD makez crappy driverz", I was just talking real...

    AMD's FirePro w9000/w8000 review thread.

That's what I'm talking about. There were newer WHQL drivers, which brought few improvements in games, but those were unusable on 7000's. Those improvements came later in unified driver if I remember correctly. I didn't mean it like there were unusable, but not everything was optimal. I...

    AMD's FirePro w9000/w8000 review thread.

Can't remeber exactly how long, but there wasn't non-beta driver for 7000 series for quite a long time after release. I'm not saying it isn't ok now. And you are right about the bad reputation sticking.

    AMD's FirePro w9000/w8000 review thread.

I don't want to start flame war or anything, nor am I hating AMD. I know I'm going to regret this... I would say launching a product without drivers ready is .... AMDish......YEAAAH First 7000 series without proper driver for months and now this. This time it's even worse since it's...

    BF3 CPU bottleneck? Really?

Well, it should come as no surprise that when you are GPU bound, better CPU won't help. Try lowering some graphical settings (MSAA?) and see if it help. I would say 30fps is too low for i5 at 4.4GHz. But you had X6 which is very good CPU for BF3 and 2550k is side/marginal upgrade at best for...

    Next nVidia Cards?

Nvidia said we will see new cards (GK110) early next year, or if AMD realeases HD8000 sooner, we may see limited quantity befere the end of the year. These should be around 50% faster than curent gen (no hard info). I would say that in your case it's worth waiting for. But they won't be cheap...

Which CPU is better? the 4 core sandy or the 2 core Ivy?

If you are converting video regularly, and you are using program that is well threaded, I would recomend getting as much threads as you can get with your budget and other constrains. By the way I'm typing this in 2C+HT and HD3000 sandy laptop and I have no problem playing 4 videos in VLC at...

Which CPU is better? the 4 core sandy or the 2 core Ivy?

Just to add: lots of people are using i3 (2c+HT) and they are good for everything from productivity to gaming, even BF3 which can be seriously CPU bottlenecked is solid on it. Of course for lots and lots of video encoding 3770k is better.. or 3930k or xeon.. you have many options to choose from...

Which CPU is better? the 4 core sandy or the 2 core Ivy?

And what if the performance needy software isn't threaded (or well threaded) ? Still lots of software like this exists (most I would dare to say). Sorry you just jumped to conclusion, and now you are feeling butthurt and throw insults around like: Feel free to defend the opinion of yours...

Which CPU is better? the 4 core sandy or the 2 core Ivy?

Watch out, we got a badass over here! On topic: I would also go for 2+HT Ivy for power consumption, HD4000 and better per core performance. Unless I would 100% know I need 2 more real cores instead of just HT cores.

    Noctua DH-14 Temps?

If I had to guess, NT-H1 which is included with Noctua heatsinks. Nothing like IC Diamond, but very solid performer. And temps look fine. :) IB is rated up to 105°C, so anything around 90°C in IBT MAX is still well within safe limits.

    AMD FX - 8120 OCing/Tuning

Guys, let them have it, they seem like they are meant for each other, and we can't help them. Every attempt to explain only leads to strengthening their beliefs. So let's go "force Intel upon others" to different thread, so we can get our money from The Almighty Chipzilla! :sneaky:

    AMD FX - 8120 OCing/Tuning

Good job cutting out the important part: "And if he really wants Bulldozer and OC it, he will most likely need better PSU because his current one isn't up for the task." Nobody forced Intel upon him, we just wanted him to be informed, and thus make good decision he won't regret. If trying to...

    AMD FX - 8120 OCing/Tuning

Good gaming comparison, but just to point out - Bulldozer's OC 4,6GHz is on the upper end of spectrum (I think around 4.8 is max with top air cooling), while I5's 4GHz is low end (again around 4.8 is standard) Just to make fair and objective comparison. But you will still be bottlenecked by GPU...

    AMD FX - 8120 OCing/Tuning

Really? I don't think anyone bashed him for not getting an Intel solution, you need to read the thread. We just told him the truth, which is that if he want better gaming performance Intel is better, that's just it. And if he really wants Bulldozer and OC it, he will most likely need better PSU...

    AMD FX - 8120 OCing/Tuning

How should it be able OC higher? Overclocking is always luck of the draw, that said, generally less cores/modules active = higher oc. And the only thing OCed bulldozer slams OCed 2500k at is multithreaded apps ( and OCed 2600k should win even in them, or tie)... oh and power consumption of...

    BF3 CPU bottleneck? Really?

Well, I run my 460 at 4200MHz on memory, could probably go higher, but I don't want to limit my core OC, and without more core OC higher memory won't help me. Sorry for OT :) Yea, it would be nice to see how modern games behave with HT on/off.
  34. A

    BF3 CPU bottleneck? Really?

Well, haven't really tried how it scales with cores, all I know is there is usually 1 core pegged at 100% bottlenecking the rest, so even if it did use lots of cores you wouldn't know it because there is already bottleneck in the first one... I was really disappointed when I found that, and now...

    BF3 CPU bottleneck? Really?

Unfortunately Shogun 2 is terribly threaded game, it generally uses core and half of my quad and fps go to teens if you zoom into battle. :\

    BF3 CPU bottleneck? Really?

It does help, been proven in this thread few times. For dualcores (i3) HT is the difference between unplayable and playable, for i7 it does help tiny bit in the most stressful situations.
  37. A

    BF3 CPU bottleneck? Really?

Yes, and 3770k performs better than 3550k in these worst case scenarios. There could be stalling from main thread, but this isn't it yet.

Delidded my i7-3770K, loaded temperatures drop by 20°C at 4.7GHz

Yep, notebook processors don't have Heat spreaders, because it would only hamper the heat transfer, and they are assembled in factory and stays the same through the life of the notebook. But give average Joe bare die CPU and see what happens while he tries to install his DH-14 D: That's what...

TXAA Anti-Aliasing Makes Its Debut In Latest Update For The Secret World

That's the solution I thought of. Since we now have PCIe 3.0 with loads of bandwidth the performance hit should be quite small. (Guessing here, don't have any proof) One thing that interests me, does the copying become a problem with 3/4-way SLI? Especially at surround resolutions?

TXAA Anti-Aliasing Makes Its Debut In Latest Update For The Secret World

Sorry if I offended you, that wasn't my goal, but I can't see other way how to understand what you wrote than, that you don't "believe" (because you don't have proof, since traditional MSAA isn't implemented to compare to) that 2xTXAA perf hit is 2xMSAA perf hit + little extra. Timothy Lottes...
