AMD E-350 + HD6970: good enough for gaming?

I looked around the web, and I couldn't find anything on using an E-350 mini-itx with a honking fast video card. How bad will the 6970 be bottlenecked? can I still play the Witcher 2 at 1900x1200? Does anyone have first hand knowledge?

in the market for a netbook

For an everyday laptop, you might want to step up to one of the CULV i5/i7 11.6-12.1 in laptops from Acer or Asus. Zacate and Atom are pretty low end pieces, both trounced in CPU, if not graphics, by even the CULV i3. I guess it depends on how much you want to do light gaming.

    DIY All-in-One?

Pick a relatively non-descript but sturdy case and then mount a monitor to the side using a small tilt or arm wall mount for designed for small TVs and the VESA mounting holes?

    Cheap SB motherboard.

just a thought, with amazon having free shipping and no tax for most states, it can sometimes be the cheapest option. in fact it is often the cheapest option for me in CA. I don't know much about these newer 1155 boards but here's a gigabyte Z68 at $120 free shipping and no tax...

    Question about CULV Laptop's

Technically the Celeron Dual Core SU2300 is CULV and they're about $400 I believe. Acer 1410 has this chip though I don't know if it'll open flat. I also know there are CULV tablets out there, i think from HP. see if they have a tablet with SU2300 and you could be in business. Edit: these...

Laptop with 8+hrs batter n backlight keyboard

around here macbooks don't attract any attention as they're ubiquitous. anyways, from personal experience the 13" macbook pro wont get to 8 hours, 6.5 is more realistic. Several reviews have the m11x reaching 8 hours but in my hands it'd probably get more like 6.5 since I use my notebooks for...

Input on switching to a CULV for everything but big games

I've been wanting a smaller laptop for my personal use for a while now. The Alienware M11x is going to be it. It's pretty expensive but you really give up nothing except an extra 10-12 oz and $400. It can game, it can last 8 hours on battery, it's small, 4 lbs, 4GB of RAM, wireless and...

Build quality difference between dell latitude, and lenovo thinkpad...

I kinda like the Dell because of the easy availability of parts. I've had both, I found the THinkpad to be pretty thoughtfully designed but found the Dell a better all around laptop. I like my corporate issued Macbook Pro the best though, design, capability, OS (as a sysadmin, the native...

New laptop - support dual external displays, Core-i7

There's a $70 dongle that outputs 1920x1200 video from a USB2.0 port. We use them at work to power a second 24" monitor with our macbook pros. http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-BVU195...9119172&sr=8-2 Supposedly you can use a hub to display up to 6 screens but we've never tried. I doubt...

Advice needed on upgrade to gaming system

So one thing interesting about i7 is turbo boost. I have a i7 860. If the app that I'm using only uses one core (actually, if my machine is only using one core, i.e. I'm not multitasking), that one core is automatically overclocked from 2.8 to 3.2GHz. I believe there is an overclock to a...

Will DDR2-533 work 1:1 with Athlon II 240?

I can't seem to find an answer. Does athlon II 240 run 1:1 at 533 or 800 when using DDR2?

Any recent reviews on laptop build quality?

The acer netbook I had was very well built. there's also this: http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/17/laptop-reliability-survey-asus-and-toshiba-win-hp-fails/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+weblogsinc%2Fengadget+%28Engadget%29 From a relatively respected name on...

Need help - 14" portable notebook w/ decent battery and screen

interestingly, I've read that Asus has good build quality. Where did you read UL80t had poor build quality? I just bought a X83Vp-A1 this morning. Maybe that fits your bill?

    Netbook and RAM upgrade

One other thing- most netbooks can only recognize 2GB max memory and when calculating that, you need to subtract any memory that is soldered to the motherboard- meaning, if it came with 1GB soldered on the mainboard, the most you could add is 1GB to end with 2GB. Some of the Acer Aspire One's...

High resolution small form factor latop?

My question is what do you need to powerful graphics for? Is cost a factor? HP's envy 15 has a 15.6" (I know it's not 14) 1920x1080 display and a ATI 4830 which is at least in the same league as 4650 I think(might even be a step up). but it's kinda pricey. At least it fits in a standard...

    CD/DVD on a netbook

There is also the subnotebook/supernetbook 12.1 UL20A with an optical drive but it costs around $900. I used an external USB drive with my netbook. I don't really care about true HD on a netbook, but my old atom netbook couldn't reliably play quicktime or DVD movies with the GMA950 graphics...

Sony VAIO CW (14" gaming laptop!)

I would be thinking more of the X83VP series if you want gaming (which I do, and why I ordered one for my son this morning). Sony was our other choice though- FW520 is a very well specced machine, just too big for my 11 year old to lug around all the time. I believe ATI 4650 is in the same...

Any hope for this old laptop? And does ReadyBoost actually work?

what model gateway is it? are you sure it's 1GB max? Pentium-M processors aren't particularly cheap, especially the faster ones that would probably work in that laptop. you probably will be better off trying to sell that laptop as it is, and applying it to a new machine. Good ones are all...

    Best pre-built gaming desktop

Why not get someone local to build it? I'm sure you could find someone to do it for like $50 or so. I would build it if you were near me. At least that way you get exactly what you want and make compromises where you want. If you order out of state, you may even be able to get it tax free...

    stackable discounts on EAstore

I ended up picking up Mass Effect with Pinnacle Station and Crysis for another $22. So the final tally is for $58, I picked up: Dragon Age: Origins Deluxe Red Alert 3 Uprising Mass Effect Crysis not a bad haul if I do say so myself... Should be a nice way to break in my newly purchased...

    stackable discounts on EAstore

I ordered some games today that ordinarily cost $65 and $20 and I ended up paying $35. If you order 2 or more digital download games (I ordered Dragon Age:Origins Digital Deluxe and Red Alert 3 Uprising) you get 40% off. Already a good deal right? But if you also add the promo code...

Netbooks all seem about the same

personally, I just sold my 10.1 MSI netbook. too slow for me. no way it would have lasted 3-5 years. I'm about to pop for an 11.6 netbook/notebook with a SU7300 dual core processor. It's more expensive than the standard netbook at ~$600, but it's more versatile also- 4GB RAM, 320GB hard...

    Best socket 1366 motherboards?

I actually like MSI boards for i7. good price and features. I also looked at asus before going with MSI which had a lot of the features of the more expensive Asus boards and some features like OC Genie, the quick launching OS, and seemingly better chipset cooling at an equivalent price to the...
