I see a lot of laptops coming out Friday with this resolution, but most seem to be in the ultrabook range - usually 13.3" or 14" with lower-powered cpus.
I haven't seen one with a 17.3" screen at 3200x1800, something that is more like DTR level with i7-4700mq or higher and can have 16GB or...
I've a Q6600 too, done since August 2007. Until recently it's held up well. This is longest I've ever gone without a computer upgrade on my main system.... since early 80s. Geesh.
I am really itching for January and will build a whole new SB system/SSD/ the works pronto.
I've heard that January 6th 2011 will be the release date but will availability be right away or still just "Q1"?
I'm in need of a new system pretty badly for a new game I'm playing, but I hesitate to buy a LGA 1156 or 1366 when LGA 1155 is so close.
Thoughts/suggestions?
I'm interested in setting up a wireless router with users who might abuse it by downloading movies 24/7. Do any of these newer wireless routers allow one to block BT and similar P2P programs at the packet level? I know that I could build a Linux router (/w a wireless card inside) that could do...
Anyone run across more info on this?
AMD is releasing a 2.0 Ghz dual-core 2x512k cache processor
for $345 on August 1st.
Does this mean that the other models are likely to drop in price
as well?
Just a communal rant.. It's been several weeks now since the X2 started showing up, but the 4400 is still very hard to get and selling for well over list price. Didn't AMD know that
like 90% of users would be going for this processor over the others? It's sad that they haven't made supply...
I am starting to wonder if the Nforce3 is going to be like VIA's KT890-- that is , it will not work with X2. There is not a single Nforce3 board that works with X2, according to AMD's website:
http://www2.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Te...ources/1,,30_182_869_9460^9461,00.html
Independently...
After wondering about this topic for a while, I finally emailed MSI on when there would be a BIOS for the MSI Neo2 Platinum (K8N). The response I got was:
"Dear Customer,
The beta bios release will be announce by end of this month for the Dual Core CPU Support.
Sincerely...
I'd like to pre-order a 4400+ but I have no confirmation that my MSI Neo2 (K8N) will actually run it. Sure, it should, but there's no BIOS updates from MSI indicating such.
What should I do?
I had the same problem with a 9800 Pro. I definitively traced it to a faulty power supply. When I underclocked the card, the artifacting would go away. When the power supply suddenly died and I replaced it, the artifacting stopped 100%. You might want to watch for weird hard drive sounds and...
The thing is, there's no info around about upgrading the board's BIOS for X2 chips yet. I guess we'll know soon, as chips should be shipping to customers in the next week or two.
edit: e.g., the last BIOS update for the K8N Neo2 4/12/2005 has no mention of X2 support.. nor any other...
Will Windows XP have to be reinstalled in order to operate with two CPUs/dual core?
I seem to recall that Windows NT set itself up differently on dual processor boards than on single processor.
In addition... I haven't seen anything regarding BIOS updates for Socket 939 boards. In the...
Can you give some info on the reduced screensize options for gaming? I understood that
you can reduced the aspect ratio so that it shows 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 (or whatever)
without stretching the screen. It put black bars around the edges. Not all games will run
at 1920x1200, so I am...
I run an MSI Neo2 with 4x512mb. Runs stable with Kingston Hyperx 2-3-2-6-T1 sticks. I run at 2T 2-3-2-10 at 200mhz. I've run Prime95 all night and no errors, too.
My Aquamark CPU score is ~9,750. With 1 GB 1T setting it's about 10,400. Athlon64 "3500" processor at stock settings.
Note...
The spd timings you see are just defaults. Not all motherboards will necessarily run at the advertised rating for the RAM, so the spds are set to a high level to ensure the system will at least boot, since many motherboards set the [AUTO] timings off the spds.
You need to manually change the...
6600GT seems a waste, either single or SLI :/
If one is spend $250 on an SLI motherboard (in the near-term), it really only makes sense to get a 6800GT/Ultra pair to go with it.
Nforce4 boards will be shipping in the next week or two according to many retailers.
However 6800GTs and Ultras are basically not available. It's hard to justify buying dual 6600GTs
when they give the performance at best of a single 6800GT. That is, SLI needs the 6800GT or Ultra
to be...
From what's on Pricewatch today, we'll have SLI boards from Asus, Abit, DFI, and Gigabyte by the end of the year... for real shipping. However, no signs of 6800GTs to put in them.
While a couple of vendors have listed the 6800GT Pciexpress as available in recent days, they
have since disappeared. There are like two vendors that list the 6800 Ultras Pciexpress on
Pricewatch, but they of course are out of stock with no ETA.
This basically leaves the Geforce 6600s as...
I don't think Nforce4 SLI boards are worth buying until Geforce6800GT PCIe is also (genuinely) available for real ordering. 6600s just don't quite cut it.
Very nice.. but can you get PCI Express Geforce 6800s there yet? :(
I personally don't think the 6600s are worth SLI. We also don't know if "all" games will work with SLI, so for the hardcore, 6800GT or higher is really what's needed.
Thanks yeah.. the speakers may be a weak spot. Is it that they're 5.1 or just crap?
I probably have to spend some time investigating that too, but any input on a reasonable
speaker upgrade (say $150 or under) welcome too :D
I've had an Audigy 1 Gamer for almost 3 years and wonder if the Audigy 2 is much better. I see that the Audigy 1 still sells for $40-$50 while the Audigy 2 is $70-$90.
I have Creative "Deskop Theater 5.1" speakers (DTT2200), which are also 3+ years old.
On Monday I've an Asus A8V coming in...
CPU utilization is way too high. Something is wrong with your installation. CPU utilization should be under 5% for all drives. The transfer rates are normal.

I'm still a bit confused on this question.
Like a lot of people, I hesitate to throw down $400+ on one of these new video cards- either
the GF 6800 or the Radeon X800 for the AGP version, given that PCI-Express is coming hard and fast soon. However, it seems that the fastest video cards...
