    AM3, AM3+, 800-series, 900-series, Information

Sorry, I'm happy to clarify. AMD in this case is Damon Munzy, a PR manager for AMD. I simply didn't mention his name because I highly doubt many (if any) readers know his name from a hole in the wall and because he was speaking as an AMD representative, thus AMD. I do not have a transcript...

    E2xxx and E4xxx overclock thread

Glad to hear it helped! 3.0GHz should be a breeze with a big typhoon. I had 3.2GHz perfectly stable at 1.445Vcore (1.41v after Vdroop). No two chips are alike of course, but just for reference. No worries...twas a fun OC and ran every bench I threw at it, but only the good lord knows if...

    E2xxx and E4xxx overclock thread

Had to revive this old thing one more time. During forum wars, I decided to push my little chip to insanity (for air cooling anyway). Don't know if the OP will ever be updated, but I can finally say I won! :D Hokiealumnus E4400 @ 3.72GHz (L2 stepping) 372x10 1.705V Abit IP35-E OCZ...

    Abit IP35-E Review (500MHz FSB board)...$90 @ NewEgg + $6.61 ship

Sounds like you need to remount your cooler. Something is not making good contact. If you used too much AS5, that can turn into an insulator instead of an interface.

Hi folks! So I have now played with v.16final. Sorry for the delay since its release. Well, no more chit-chat, straight to the nitty-gritty: The overclock used for all testing is as follows: 10x 300FSB (3.0GHz) @ 1.365Vcore 1:1.5 CPU : DRAM ratio (450MHz, or DDR2-900) with 5-5-4-15-2T...

TAT doesn't work with this board unfortunately. Prime works just fine though. What HSF are you using? If it has a low RPM fan, when it slows b/c the temps are down, it could be dipping temporarily below the RPM threshold set in abitEQ.

Sorry to hear you had an SATA connector problem. It's not rampant but it has happened. I blame RoHS compliant solder...old fashioned lead held much better! Anyway, the minimum Vcore is your CPU's VID, whatever that may be. No under-volting with the IP35 series unfortunately.

Depends on which BIOS you get. People seem to be able to operate just fine with both v.14 & 15, the temps & Vcore are just screwy. The new beta fixes those issues though. The ones shipping from Newegg are v.15 now AFAIK (not a lot of empirical evidence; I've only seen one person say that and...

This thread was immensely educational. Haven't read much in the highly technical forum; maybe it's time I started. Anyway, a question if you please, which may have already been answered. Is this quote... ...from CTho a rough explaination of why Folding@Home is such a bear for stability...

One person reported @ abit that the FSB reset on him after removing power for 10+ hours. I didn't have time to do that for so long and never remove power anyway, so it's moot in my case. Just thought you folks should know.

No problem at all; truth be told, I have fun with it. Yes, I'm a huge nerd; I know. Temps have never changed for me except for when they switched the BIOS CPU temp reading on us between v.11 & v.12 (basically, changed from Tcase to Tjunction). Why is the e6850 still for sale?

It's probably the simple fact that the retailers would rather keep them in stock than lose money on them. AFAIK the E8400s cost less / 1000 chips than the E6850s. I guess they figure enough less-than-intelligent people will spend the money and refuse to sell them at less than cost.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. :) They all OC the same for me. If speed is what you're going for, v.12 benches faster than any of them. If the double-boot isn't a big problem for you and you have a 65nm chip, that's the one to go with. Here are test results from all the versions I've...

I'd clear CMOS again, then go immediately into BIOS select "Load Optimized Defaults" and set the manufacturer's recommended Vdimm. Save & exit then go back into BIOS and set your OC up. Don't forget to reduce your CPU : DRAM ratio.

It will be a little faster than an E6750; larger L2 cache and 400MHz will make a difference. Whether it will be noticeable is another question altogether. I'd go with not much, if any noticeable difference. I would think abit will certainly release a BIOS that will fully support those...

A lot of DDR2-800 RAM will run @ 450 no problem (mine will just fine). With 4x2G it could be a bit more of a challenge. If you do consider running @ 1:1.2 @ 450, you'd be better off with the DDR2-1000 linked to earlier. Basically it'll make it easier on you whichever direction you decide to...

I wasn't trying to make an excuse for a port falling off. The ones I've seen before were along the lines of "I pulled <too hard> on my SATA cable trying to disconnect it and the port came off with it." That's user error, not a manufacturing problem. If you pull hard on something with small...

FWIW, IMO, the SATA ports are more of a problem with this RoHS compliant lead-free solder they have to use. If it was good old fashioned, polluting lead solder, they'd hold better. Of course, you need to choose between environment and SATA ports. ;)

    Abit IP35-E Review (500MHz FSB board)...$90 @ NewEgg + $6.61 ship

That RAM is fine but you won't be able to OC as far as you could with the DDR2-1000. Basically, you can run up to a 500MHz FSB with a 1:1 ratio and not be OC'ing your memory. That's 4.0GHz with the 8x multi on your E6750. It just gives you more head room. The RAM you linked to should be...

Where do you guys get your thermal paste?

Late to this party...anyway, +1 for Radio Shack. They had AS:5 and Ceramique, both strangely in Thermaltake packaging. Go figure. It kind-of evens out though. To not pay for shipping, you pay $9.95 for AS:5 and $6.95 (I think) for Ceramique. Then again, it's in your hands right then.

Well, if you asked him, he would say he made too many AT advertisers angry from trashing their products (OCZ) and/or refuting their claims (Corsair I believe). If you ask AT it's because he was banned in the past for reasons similar under the name Furballi. That's the gist. Regardless, it's...

    E4400/DDR2-667 on P35-DS3R --> FSB wall?

Sorry, I've got nothing on why your chip can't get to 3.0GHz with much lower Vcore if you're doing it with a 1:1 CPU : DRAM ratio. What is your chip's VID? The one thing I can answer for you is that E2xxx & E4xxx chips do NOT like high FSBs and lowered multipliers. As an example, mine...
