What motherboards have Non-Z overclocking enabled for Pentium 3258?

Bought an MSI B85M Gaming motherboard and a G3258. http://www.msi.com/product/mb/B85M_GAMING.html Booted up right away with BIOS version 10, no problems. Would not seem to change the CPU multiplier though, maxes at 32. Updated BIOS to version 10.1 in hopes of being able to adjust multiplier...

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

I inserted the HD 4650 today. The BIOS set the onboard graphics to disabled. I re-enabled it, set the video memory to 256M, set the surroundview to on, set the primary graphics to PCI-E, and I was in business. Works fine. I'm on Ubuntu Linux now, and configured the multiple cards with sudo...

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

guskline: Thank you for your reply. However, I am only needing to use one monitor at a time. The video card just needs to be a zone switcher basically. I have a projector (for watching movies), a main monitor for work, and a screen in a nearby room for reading e-books. As mentioned above, I...

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

I'm still on XP SP3. In lieu of getting the DVI-D to HDMI adapter needed to try the 780G with three monitors, I picked up an HD 4650 DDR2 card for $13.50 shipped. Nice buy, and fits well with my budget! Hope it works (he says it does). When I get it, I will report back as to whether the...

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

That's a no on two analog signals as the ports available are DVI-D (digital only, not integrated with analog signal like DVI-I) and HDMI. Only one analog out, the VGA. As to two digital signals, that's what I'm going to try and test next, but I seem to recall that you are right.

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

Ah yes, regarding my above post, DVI-D does not have an analog signal, so that certainly explains why a simple adapter mod would not work as I clipped the four analog pins off to make it fit physically. I suppose an active adapter would be required. Or, perhaps a DVI-D to HDMI cable might work...

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

Well, I tried hooking up a VGA monitor to the DVI port on the 780G. The DVI - VGA adapter did not fit. On closer inspection, it seems that, for some mysterious reason, MSI put a DVI-D connector on there. My adapters are DVI-I. So, I tried to modify one of my DVI-I adapters to fit by clipping the...

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

While I'm looking for cheap-o video cards, I have another question! I will be using just one monitor at a time. I think responders to this thread thought I'd have all three on at once. Does that make a difference in terms of my options? Right now I have profiles set up to switch monitors in...

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

I intend to avoid the hybrid crossfire altogether. That way I can choose just about any card. I might have an old 6600 GT but that's about it on the PCI-E. Most of my stuff is much older than that. :) Still, I consider it pretty risky to install both display drivers simultaneously. I think it's...

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

It sounds like the least expensive option, without purchasing adapters and such would be to get a cheap PCI-E card (AMD of course, I smell a BSOD coming if I tried to install both Nvidia and AMD display drivers on XP) and hope it will work alongside the enabled 780G graphics while leaving hybrid...

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

Interesting that the 6450 does not support Eyefinity without an active displayport adapter, and the older 5450 does, at least according to: http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/amd-eyefinity-technology/how-to/Pages/faqs.aspx#products-support I wonder why they dropped support on their...

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

I looked through the manual and Google'd, but no luck finding out if this particular MB supports integrated + discrete graphics. Does anyone here know it would work, and if so, what limitations do I have as far as cheap ATI/AMD cards to purchase? The 5770 looks nice, but is a bit more than I...

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

I'm not 100% sure what my MB supports. It is a nice board, an MSI KA780G. I'll have to research if MSI says whether it supports integrated + discrete graphics or not.

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

Thank you for the detailed info! It gives me something to start looking into at least. My system with the kill-a-watt is idle @ 45 watts. (4850e/780g/a few HDDs) Just hoping to get a bit more out of the graphics subsystem. The system is on 24/7 so it all adds up at 17 cents/KWH.

Best Way to Use 3 Monitors with 780G?

Here I am with another question. :) I have an AMD 780G (ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics) chipset motherboard and need to run three monitors. The chipset graphics only support two monitors (HDMI + VGA). So, what is the best hybrid crossfire card that is compatible with the 780G? Or, would it be...

Vintage Computer Advice PII to PIII

I found a 360p YouTube video that challenges this rig - it is quite a neat video too - the Blue Angels national flying team - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6tB8Lf7YoU CPU spikes mid 90s and 100 if the mouse is moved, some dropped frames regardless. Tried Hulu, fairly jerky, but some...

Vintage Computer Advice PII to PIII

OK - I received and upgraded to a PIII 1 Ghz on Asus CUSL2-M. Made a nice difference from the PII. I noticed that CPU use was in the upper 90s with Flash 8. I then tried Flash 10.1 again and it reversed the previous trend and performed just a bit better than Flash 8, coming in at the upper 80s...

Vintage Computer Advice PII to PIII

The Asus P2B is stuck at 1x/2x. Thus the Geforce 3 TI 200. I have an ATI 9600 SE lying around but can't use it. The new motherboard, when it arrives, will be an CUSL2-M which I believe has 4x capability.

Vintage Computer Advice PII to PIII

@ yottabit - thanks for making the video, I watched the whole thing - very informative. I think, as one member said above, the PIII 1.0 Ghz processor is probably going to be the sweet spot for windowed 360p which I believe is the standard YouTube presentation for most videos. A very generous...

Vintage Computer Advice PII to PIII

Thanks Deimos. Not sure how much of a difference the 150Mhz would make, but probably not a whole lot. By the way, I did find that Flash Player 8 plays the videos smoother than Flash Player 10, at least on the PII system. I got it form the Macromedia archive...

Vintage Computer Advice PII to PIII

I don't mind used. I am a pretty good surplus hunter. The question remains if anyone knows if the PIII 600 can play a video on YouTube. I recall playing DVDs smoothly in software on slower processors than that. The hardware decoder boards were only needed up to perhaps the PII 400. So, I'm not...

Vintage Computer Advice PII to PIII

All right, I found the slotket and it is a Procomp D370A version 1.0 with only a single jumper to force a 100Mhz front side bus. As there is no way to regulate the voltage, I can say with reasonable certainty that this particular slotket will not support the Tualatin. I vaguely recall...

Vintage Computer Advice PII to PIII

I agree it is a nice boost, I believe I went from a PII 333 to a PIII 550 back in the day. However, I have no clue if it would be adequate to handle YouTube today even at the standard 360p. The PII certainly isn't. As mentioned, Asus states that my PCB revision can only handle a PIII 600Mhz...

It might, I actually do have a slotket handy. However, I'm not certain if the particular one I have can regulate the voltage down far enough. I will check into it and report back.

Vintage Computer Advice PII to PIII

So I recently had about 12 socket A motherboards in a row fail on me (darn those caps) and had to dig deep into the storage locker. Out comes the Asus P2B which is of course still reliable after all these years. I popped my PII 333 on it and it is solid. Naturally, as these rigs cost $3K back...
