AMD 14.x Catalyst Overclocking is Broken

I've had the same issue with my own Sapphire Tri-X R9 290, though in my case it's good up to 1100MHz on the stock voltage without ever throttling with 14.x drivers (ASIC quality is 79.9%). I posted about it earlier: I've also seen people say the powertune throttling goes away if you're running...

PSA: Powercolor 290x reference model using non reference board

I've had the same experience as you on my Sapphire 290-loads of temp head room, but as soon as any voltage is added I get clock throttling. It seems to be a bug in the 14.x beta releases, since I don't get the throttling in 13.12s. No matter what, the power limit controls in CCC, Trixx or...

    Accessing Unallocated Drive

Just to update you guys, I was able to get the files off of the partition yesterday. So Gparted was easily able to bring up what was on the old partition, but it was unresponsive when it came time to copy the data to other partitions. It just kinda froze, although I didn't let it run over night...

    Accessing Unallocated Drive

Thanks guys. I did boot into Linux just to see if I could get into the drive with that alone, but I'll give Gparted a try in a bit. I'll take a look at EaseUS too if Gparted doesn't help. Thankfully I checked back in time.

    Accessing Unallocated Drive

Ah, okay, that's what I was afraid of. I'm glad it was this drive and not another because I didn't have anything important on it, but is any of that software free/trialware? I just tried Recuva earlier but that didn't help. Unless I'm supposed to format the drive first before using it.

    Accessing Unallocated Drive

I recently picked up a 3TB HDD to replace an older drive I still had in my system, and while installing it, I accidentally didn't push the SATA cable in all the way. So of course disk management in Windows couldn't recognize the drive, but I thought it might have been an issue with the SATA...

7950 reverts to 900mhz when hitting 65 degrees?

Did you raise the power limit at all in catalyst? Not sure if it could reset the clocks but it's supposed to throttle the card at least.

Catalyst 13.1 Out Now (New 13.2 Beta Links 3,4&5)

I haven't had any DX9 issues with my 7950 either and I pretty much only play DX9 and DX8 games. Actually I'm hoping these drivers will have the DX9 performance improvements they promised were coming at some point. Maybe you guys could try submitting an issue form if the next batch of drivers...

Whats a good under $200 card to replace a eVGA GTX460 1GB FTW

notty was comparing the 660 to the 460, not to the 7870 here. The 650ti is only mildly faster than the 460, so I wouldn't think it's a great upgrade. If you really want to stay under $200, you should look at some 7850s, or spend a bit more for the 660s/7870s.

GTX680 vs HD7970 with SGSSAA, user input requested

Would you mind if I put up Black Mesa benchmarks for comparison later today? I'm interested to see if Tahiti loses a lot more performance than GK-104 for all Source Engine games like the Anandtech results for Portal 2 show, or maybe it's just the case with the newer build Portal 2 uses. I...

Got my GTX 670 with a little positive surprise and now a REALLY negative

Do you have ASUS GPU Tweak installed? I seem to remember that causing some red screen issues. You could try uninstalling it if you do.

[computerworld] Nvidia, AMD release graphics processors for supercomputing

I think it's more likely that it's that dual-Tahiti board with downclocked GPUs they showed a few months back. Wouldn't we have heard some more rumblings about Sea Islands if they already had a FirePro product ready?

What is the quietest enthusiast level card out there?

Agreed that vendor-specific coolers are the way to go for the quietest system out of the box. Tom's covered a few of these cards for both the 670 and the 7950: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-670-test-review,3217-12.html...

    Need an upgrade - 7850 or 7870?

I had two different MSI 7870's with the Twin Frozr 4 coolers and I found them both fairly loud, especially compared to the dual-fan Sapphire 7950 I settled with. That Sapphire 7850 for $165 looks good. I don't know that it would last 4 years, but you can look at it as saving some money now that...

weird issues running Metro 2033 bench

Were you running with MSAA at 1920x1080 or AAA? With the lower results, are the dips in certain parts or consistently? Same problem after restarting? I thought maybe the memory usage fluctuated between runs but I just did a few and according to Afterburner the memory usage was constant after a...

    ***Official GeForce GTX660/GTX650 Review Thread***

Sorry, but you're the only one on this board that's been saying this. And you only need to look here at the AT review to see that both Nvidia and AMD increased performance with their newer drivers. I don't get why you're complaining about wanting to see the cards tested with drivers that have...

    Cryptocoin Mining?

One thing you can do is lower your memory clock while mining. Getting my memory down to 525 while mining lowered my temps quite a bit, so it probably came with a decent drop in power consumption. I haven't tried undervolting the memory at the same time, but I'll give that a shot tonight. I also...

    Sleeping Dogs benchmark thread

2500K@4.5GHz and a single 7950. I did most of the runs overclocked but I did do some at 1080p with the stock 7950 clocks. 7950@800/1250 7950@1125/1700 I'm surprised my card is keeping up with aaksheytalwar's 7970. Perhaps the bench is highly bandwidth dependent? Overclock scaling at...

    Radeon HD 7950 Owner's Thread

I ran some tests in Metro that showed that it did, especially once you start raising the core clock. You can see the results here. Not hugely significant, but I did notice it also raised fps a bit in other games, although I didn't document those.

PowerColor Hd7850 - going blackscreen in idle mode

Could you try uninstalling the 12.7s and moving to the 12.8 Beta? I had idle issues with some of the post 12.4 Catalysts including 12.7, although it was usually that it wouldn't seem to wake from ULPS, so I would have a black screen after leaving on my computer overnight. I've also had black...

GPU running at 100% while staring at a menu.

Oh cool, didn't know about the Afterburner frame limiter since I'd tried looking for it before without finding it. Works great.

GPU running at 100% while staring at a menu.

I thought this was pretty normal for menus that don't have a frame cap? Some menus like the ones for Crysis and the Witcher 2 and the Alan Wake cinematics run at 999+fps with my graphics card, so it doesn't take much power to run the menu smoothly but the GPU is still going all out to get that...

    Issues with 7970

I had the gray screen issue with both 12.6s and 12.7 betas, particularly while anything Flash-related started using GPU acceleration. I moved onto these unofficial beta drivers that were linked in this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2260789 They've gotten rid of the gray...

    Radeon HD 7950 Owner's Thread

So I did some runs of the Metro 2033 bench at Very High, 4XMSAA, 16XAF, and DOF and PhysX disabled. 5 runs at each setting and the fps is the average that the benchmark results reported. Side panel was off to help with temps until I get some more fans tomorrow...

    Radeon HD 7950 Owner's Thread

Nah, it's been at 1.6V. I also used Trixx to overclock because Afterburner would give me weird flickering as soon as I made any changes with it. I think I'll run some Metro benchmarks later today to see how much of an effect the increased bandwidth gives.

    Radeon HD 7950 Owner's Thread

I did runarounds in games at different memory settings but performance was still improved at 1700. Granted it's barely noticeable so there's not much point in pushing it any farther. I think the 7800s need the extra bandwidth more but I couldn't get my 7870 memory nearly that high. If you can...

    Radeon HD 7950 Owner's Thread

I'm curious about this too. I have the Sapphire 950MHz edition (ASIC 89.6%) which seems to have a similar heatsink to the Twin Frozrs and I was able to do 1050/1650 at the stock 1.031V and 1125/1700 at 1.093V. I tested with the Crysis demo which is pretty good about crashing, and then played...

    Old Build Problem

Sorry guys, I was finishing up some papers so it took me a while to get back to this. I tried clearing the CMOS, but that didn't change anything. But I did notice that my monitor was intermittently flashing between the "NO INPUT" screen and a blank screen. When the computer's off, it'll just...

    Old Build Problem

I built this computer in 2007, with the following components: E6750 GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DSR3 2GB Crucial DDR2 1066 Launch 8800GT Creative X-Fi OCZ 700W GameXStream. Advanced Format Samsung F4 HD204UI with Windows XP

Thanks guys, I've got it set up now, and speeds seem to be fine for me. Do these look about right? They're a pretty big increase from the 1TB drives I have. I suppose I'll run Samsung's ESTool diagnostic tests to see if the firmware flash worked.

Advanced Format Samsung F4 HD204UI with Windows XP

Thanks, I didn't know about the firmware issue. I forgot to mention that I'll just be adding this drive to my existing setup, but I'll still boot using Gparted live. So I'll apply the firmware patch and then format using Gparted live, with the starting sector of the partition set to 1M and...

Advanced Format Samsung F4 HD204UI with Windows XP

I'm ready to jump on one of these drives, but I'm still using Windows XP, and I don't have the option to set up the hard drive in Vista/7 first. I know that the EARS Western Digital drives give you a jumper to align the sectors for XP, but these drives don't seem to be the same. I've seen...
