You could go up a little bit... "You'll never use more than 6.40GB in your life" That number seems to ring a bell.

Sick of SSD life questions? Lets squash this rumor.

I agree, that the failure generally has nothing to do with writes, but some people are still worried about it. I think the only reason we have CPUs that operate with such a small failure rates is because of intel's testing mythology. And AMD has to keep just as high of standards to keep up...

    AMD or Intel

If you want to go with Intel, and save money, go with the i3 on a server motherboard. It has ECC support, but no VT support. I initially bought everything around the g540, which is a great dual core processor for the money, it was a very fast dual core with ECC support. Later I bought a...

Sick of SSD life questions? Lets squash this rumor.

I'm sick of seeing "I'm afraid if I put my 'browser cache / virtual memory' on my SSD, it will eat up all my erase cycles!" Lets put an end to this rumor. I have an old Kingston 40gb SSD, it was used in a raid 0 (with no trim), for 1 year and then decommissioned to my wife's computer as a...

Any chance for 120hz monitors with low native resolution?

For those of you who think that more than 60fps/hz is just a waste, have you ever tried it? I play COD Black OPS on the PC. I can definitely tell the difference between 45fps and 60fps. I had an older video card, and was only getting 45fps on some maps. My k/d ratio would fall on those maps...

    Real minimum SSD size

I used a 40gb SSD for a year, then upgraded to a 120gb. The 120 is definitly nice, but you can get by with smaller. I use steam mover to 'move' my games back and forth between the ssd and hd. http://www.traynier.com/software/steammover/

    SSD Data Integrity

Depending upon when you lose power, you can get silent data corruption. If it happens during an erase it corrupts the next write! Data corruption that can happen months after the power loss. http://cseweb.ucsd.edu/users/swanson/papers/DAC2011PowerCut.pdf "6. CONCLUSION The flash memory...

Seagate 3TB external vs internal performance?

I have a 3tb Hitachi 5 platter 7200rpm drive and get ~150mbs peak, average around 120mbs. You should be getting much higher than 55mbs. Are you using a usb3 cable? Sounds like it's limited to usb 2.0 speeds. (right around 50mbs)

The 32 bit version uses less ram. Something to consider when you only have 1 gig.

I would run a memory test first, like memtest86, then I would check your voltages on your power supply. Next guess is the GPU, see what happens if you use the iGPU.

    CPU for a medium server?

The problem i have with your methodoligy is that I have way too much data to know if it is corrupted. I have 6 years of digital photos and videos saved on my ZFS server with almost exactly the backup plan you mentioned via snaps, and Crashplan. Here is the problem. Lets say 1 photo named...

    Instability, eventually...

When does it happen? At idle, at load? If it is a random occurrence, I would test the ram. Whenever I have random problems RAM is the first thing I test. I would run a memtest86 overnight.

    CPU for a medium server?

AMD can use ECC ram. If you want to protect important data, or 100% up-time is critical, then you should go with the AMD system. Intel dominates all the benchmarks and performance/watt. I went with a C204 motherboard and an intel G620 (the low end i3's and XEONs can use ECC ram). Got the...

    Hitachi RMA Process

I understand I took a gamble. I thought I was taking an $80 gamble. I actually thought 'hey 6 months from now if something happens the drives will actually be cheaper, so I'm taking a $60 gamble. Really didn't plan on hard drive prices skyrocketing, and now I'm staring at an $330 paper...

    Hitachi RMA Process

Has anyone ever dealt with Hitachi's RMA process. I have a 3tb xl3000 drive that just went bad. Problem is it's an external drive, and I took it out of it's case, breaking the warranty seal. Should I just send the bare drive in, like it has been an internal drive the entire time, or put it...

    A6 X3 3500 and ECC ram

My home server mb went bad, and it's time to replace it anyways. Looking at the AMD A6 3500, but I can't tell if it uses ECC ram. I have tried to search but couldn't come up with anything. Anyone have any experience with the new AMD APUs and ECC ram?

HardOCP failing hard with latest review?

I think I would do more reading here and less at [H] if Anand would get rid of the bright white background. A black background is so much easier on the eyes. Even gray would be better than white. And yes I'm serious, it really does annoy me that much.

So is this the p67 motherboard or my hard drive going bad.

Seagate st31000333as It just failed the seatool long DST test. I thought it was suppose to give me an error code for the RMA.

Just found out about the intel sata problem and thought I would check the hard drives out to see how they were doing. I haven't checked them out in a while. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Should my raw read error rate be that high? It is still under warranty.

    Tri HD4850 vs single 4870X2?

Your still going to be limited by the gddr3, the 4870 uses gddr5 and it has 2x the bandwidth. I don't know, It would be interesting to see a 4850 1gb x3 vs. a 4870x2 but I still think the 4870x2 will come out on top with higher resolutions.
