    480GTX Idle @72C

I'm just using the stock bios at the moment, maybe I'll flash the new one one to see if that does bring down temps!

    480GTX Idle @72C

Oh yeah definitely, look at the transistor count - 1.9billion for the 460 and 3billion for the 480 - a much bigger core size, so its bound to run hotter.

    480GTX Idle @72C

Ah right! Ok so I have one 24" monitor and my HDTV running at the same res, both 1920x1080. I've just turned off the HDTV screen, and temps have dropped to 60C which seems much better (though still pretty warm eh!) You guys are geniuses. So, ok, is there custom fan profile that I can...

    480GTX Idle @72C

Hi guys, Just got hold of an MSI 480GTX - This thing is HOT! It idles at 71C according to Realtemp v3.40 and GPUz v0.4.4! Do you think its running too hot for my system to handle? I have a NZXT M59, H50 cooler on the CPU, a 12cm side panel fan blowing air directly onto the GPUs heatpipes and...

280 GTX running at 105C! Help!

Warning! This story does not have a happy ending. So, after emailing BFGs tech support/RMA service for the past week and a bit, I have had absolutely no response. It appears their RMA partner in Wales no longer works with them (you ship the cards to them, they test them, and ship them onto...

280 GTX running at 105C! Help!

So to update: I reapplied for an RMA last Thursday (22/07/10), but BFG have not got back to me with any kind of response. I am pretty frustrated with this now. Its been 3 weeks since all this began and I am still without a functional GPU. I think all this business about pulling out of...

280 GTX running at 105C! Help!

No, only temps - whats a good fan monitoring software? Also, if this is the problem it still means the card is faulty....

280 GTX running at 105C! Help!

Yes we are talking 105 centigrade, right now its 20C in my room. I have a Leadtek 280GTX that I am borrowing while mine is fixed - that maxes out at about 88C. The BFG 280 is clearly faulty!

280 GTX running at 105C! Help!

Can you believe it! I just received the replacement card back - it has EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM! ARGH! It looks as though they have just stuck a new cooler on the card (since it was totally dust free) - when its the chipset that appears to be faulty! I have emailed them again. We'll see what...

280 GTX running at 105C! Help!

Just to update you all Though it was a second hand card, it had never actually been registered for warranty, so I filled in the forms on the manufactures website, and they agreed to RMA it. I explained to them the issues I was having and the symptoms the card was displaying, and they sent me...

280 GTX running at 105C! Help!

Oh, does anyone know of any good guides to cleaning out/taking apart a 280GTX?

280 GTX running at 105C! Help!

The reason I asked this question is because I had a feeling I had read something about this. Well, the card is pretty useless as it is at the moment, so I may as well try my best to clean it out and replace the thermal paste.

280 GTX running at 105C! Help!

Hi guys! I bought a 280GTX recently. I always knew it would run hot, but Furmark 1.8.2 shows it running at 105C. If I game for more than say 30 minutes the computer shuts down and refuses to reboot immediately (presumably because the GPU is so hot). Am I correct in saying 105C is the cut off...

I'm all out of ideas for helping a pal with 4870x2 problem, anyone?

Hey guys! Woah! Lots to read! Thanks very much! And let it be remembered that there is nothing wrong with a healthy debate! In answer, yes its fresh Vista 64 install, we reinstalled the entire OS to make sure it wasnt a problem with that - didn't make any difference. In regarding the...

I'm all out of ideas for helping a pal with 4870x2 problem, anyone?

Hi guys. My friend is having some seriously choppy performance in Crysis and showing lower than expected scores on 3D Mark Vantage. Was wondering if you guys might be able to help Specs Q9400 @ 2.6Ghz (with Zalman Heatsink) Radeon 4870x2 - 9.4 drivers 4GB Corsair Twin3xDHx Antec...

    New GPU for old Mediabox

Thanks very much, its not AGP is the only problem - but this one is http://www.newegg.com/Product/...4121315&Tpk=3450%20agp - plus someone in a similar situation to me has left a very good review. I was wondering whether it would be able to handle HD video ok

    New GPU for old Mediabox

Hi guys I have been travelling for 3 years, so I have come home to find my computers which weren't exactly state of the art at the time I left, looking like they should be in a museum (or, perhaps, junkyard would be more befitting). Anyhow, my mediabox is ok for playing DivX, but I would...

    Help me Choose a masters!

Hi guys! This sounds fine! I'm good with computers, but I am far better with people! But to be a good manager, you have to earn respect, and I can't expect people to respect me if I have no qualifications at all in the field I am in, so even if I don't have a CompSci degree, at least I will...

    Help me Choose a masters!

Hi guys, I have been a bit lost of late, and thought that I would turn to the tech boards of Anandtech to help me find my direction. I have a Degree in Criminology, but my work experience and passion lies in computers/IT (just a lowly Desktop Support 'analyst' at the moment). Anyhow, I...
