I'm about to buy this at SuperBiiz for about $100. The 40gb is enough room for me to use it as a boot drive with my programs on it and still have over 20% of the space leftover. I'm interested in this model because of the fast random reads/writes. My computer use is limited to web surfing and...
I want to upgrade my gaming machine. I only play WoW. I will be overclocking.
Currently I have:
AMD 64 3700+ @ 2800 MHz
7300 GS
I don't care if I go with AMD or Intel.
I was thinking of an e5200. I don't know much about what is currently available.
Thanks for you help.
It's been a couple of years since I used Ubuntu. Here are some nice improvements that I found:
- Automatic partitioning during install that didn't kill XP. I had XP on the HD already. I installed off the Ubuntu live CD and now I'm dual booting.
- The correct screen resolution and refresh...
I'm just curious. I haven't bought a mount yet because I spend all my gold on weapons and armor. So I have considered buying just enough gold for a mount.
My 2 x 512MB of Crucial "8t" is up to 255 MHz in my new DFI Ultra-D. Screenshot.
I'm using 3.1V on it. It wasn't stable until I researched and messed around with the timings I had never seen before in this DFI board. It also needed a low-rpm 120mm fan pointed at it.
In my KV8 Pro it did...
The PCMCIA slots don't work in my laptop anymore. I've tried various different cards and they aren't recognized anymore.
So I'm wondering if its possible to replace some parts. Anyone know?
Thanks.
I have a new Belkin 802.11b wireless router/gateway. I did the Shields Up port scan at GRC and it shows port 80 open and port 113 closed (rather than stealth).
I have the router's firewall enabled. I checked and there are no firmware updates available. Do I need to change some of the router's...
Any reason to get G instead of B when I'm just going to use the internet for this and not set up a network? I have a fast cable internet connection (3 Mbps). My house is small.
Thanks.
These config settings helped quite a bit with my system. I play at 1600 x 1200 at low quality. Before changing my config file the framerate was too low during big fights. But now its nice and smooth. Now I don't need to upgrade my video card right away and can wait until prices come down on 6800...
Now that I have a 2000FP the mouse doesn't move fast enough across the screen, even with the pointer speed maxed out in Mouse Properties. Any way to speed it up more?
Thanks.
I just got a Dell 2000FP and with the 1600 x 1200 resolution the text on this and many other forums is very small, even though I have set IE for bigger fonts. Is there any way to change this? Should I use a different browser?
Also, the text is burry. I have clear type enabled but that didn't...
I switched from a 15" LCD to this 20". I had no idea the monitor would be this big. Its a whole new experience. It seems to work very well for movies and gaming. I can't believe I stayed with such a small monitor for so long!
The only thing is that text is blurry and very small. Do I need to get...
I just got a used laptop and I can't use any CD's in it. Even the Toshiba recovery disks won't work. I tried a few DVD's and they work fine. This is strange because the person I bought it from did a clean install with the recovery disks. The laptop was shipped to me in very good packaging...
I got my best AS5 application ever by putting a very small blob (maybe 1/4 the size of a rice grain) in the center of my Barton core and letting my my waterblock spread it as I tightened it down. I checked it after a couple days and there was the thinnest layer of thermal compound I had ever...
I get hundreds of emails with viruses every day. Right now visitors to my website can click "contact" and its an email hyperlink - so they get my email address. I want to use a form or some other method that allows me to receive email from visitors without giving out my email address.
What is...
My girlfriend wants a laptop for email and web browsing. That is all she will do with it. I don't know anything about laptops. I'm thinking of a refurbished Dell with a 2.4 GHz celeron. They are about $600., which is within her budget.
Any suggestions?
Thanks. :)
People keep asking about the new 36GB Raptors and whether they will be quieter. I just got this brand new one from Western Digital and it sounds identical to my old one. The date of manufacture is April 4, 2004.
I'm not concerned about the noise though, because I have it on a ventilated foam bed.
I just got this fan and put it in my case at 5V. Its so quiet that I have to put my ear right up to the intake where the fan is to hear it. The sound is a deep hum. From 12" its inaudible. There is no bearing or motor noise that I can hear. It still pushes a pretty good amount of air. Definately...
The ethernet card is relatively new and the laptop is an old Toshiba with a P75. The ethernet card fits in the slot but doesn't go in the last cm or so.
I looked closely at the ethernet card next to my modem card that does fit. The two cards are identical except on the side of the card that...
I can't find any more missions and the mob never came down to see about their money or coke. Did I miss something or does the game not really have an ending?
It has 2 x 128MB Samsung in there now and I can get 2 x 256MB Apacer to add to the mix (there are four memory slots). I just don't know if these boards care about mixing brands.
Thanks.
I wanted to switch to water because running 1.9V on air and keeping it quiet has been difficult. But I wanted to do it really cheap and not use any fans.
50 feet 3/4" slightly dented copper pipe: $15.
Eheim 1250, used: $30.
Maze 2, used: $15.
Tubing, fittings & misc: $20.
Here's the pics.

I got an error at boot that said there was a problem with: \windows\system32\config\system. It said to use the XP CD to repair. But I don't want to do the whole repair process. How do I just replace the corrupt file?
Thanks.:)
I get a message saying "enable direct 3d acceleration" when I try to start a benchmark. And when I close a window it rolls down the screen instead of just disappearing.
I made the mistake of letting windows pick a driver to install after I put in a new video card. That's when this problem...
I cut a hole in the MB tray, behind the cpu socket, then cut a hole above that in my case side panel and put an 80mm panaflo L1A there. So the fan blows on the back of the MB behind the socket. Reading temps in bios after running prime95 for an hour, its now at 44C, down from 49C.
I'm pretty...
I looked in my psu and found a little potentiometer. It's a yellow plastic screw with some blue glue over it.
Since my 12V was 11.73 under load, as measured with a DMM, I decided to raise it up a bit. The pot adjusts the 5V and 12V at the same time and my 5V was already at 5.19. With a very...
It is a little inconvenient to click a subscription link in an email that takes me to the first page of a very long thread. I have to go back to the main page and then click "last" to get to where the new reply is. It would be great if the email link lead me to the latest reply or if I could...
The high-pitched buzz was definately noticeable with my case open- a little louder than a WD JB. But fortunately I can't hear it with the case closed. I only use panaflo L1A's for case fans and cpu hsf so there's not much sound to cover it up. The seek and write sounds are low pitched and I can...
I'm in CA, and my business partner is in NV. We want Quick Books to be networked. We both have cable internet. What's the best way to set this up?
Thanks.
