Current PC worth upgrading everything or only the GPU?

My current desktop is probably around 6 years old now. Here are the basics: Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield Quad-Core 2.66 GHz ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard EVGA GeForce GTX 275 896-P3-1170-AR 896MB An obvious pain point is the hard drive, so I'll be definitely...

Building family computer w leftover parts (already have GPU, memory, PSU)

The Wolfdale suggested by denis280 looks like a nice proc at a nice price. How is that compared to the newer 4th gen stuff?

Building family computer w leftover parts (already have GPU, memory, PSU)

Why the old processor? Wouldn't it be better to get something newer like AMD Kaveri or Vishera? How would the Wolfdale stack up to something like this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819113287

Building family computer w leftover parts (already have GPU, memory, PSU)

No prob, here's some more info: 1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing. It'll be a general purpose PC, with flexibility for some gaming. I don't need to get the highest-end stuff for this computer. 2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is...

Building family computer w leftover parts (already have GPU, memory, PSU)

I have a few extra parts so I was thinking about building a family computer with them. I have: GPU: EVGA GTX 560 Ti Crysis edition Memory: OCZ Platinum 3 x 2GB DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) PSU: Seagate 600w misc other things such as wifi card, monitor, keyboard/mouse, etc I could really use...

    More memory for i7 machine

If I were to get a 3 channel kit, which one of these would be best for my mobo (ASUS P6T Deluxe)? They're all 1.5V except for the last Mushkin. Mushkin Enhanced Radioactive 12GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820226220 Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 12GB...

    More memory for i7 machine

What should I be looking at in terms of timings, and also which one of these DDR3 1066/1333/1600/1866/2133 should I consider?

    More memory for i7 machine

I have no intentions of overclocking, but I leave my computer on 24/7. For the X58 system should I stick with 1.65v, or does it not matter if the sticks are 1.5v?

    More memory for i7 machine

I don't think I want to do major upgrades to my main desktop for now. If the processor and mobo are fine, I might want to add an SSD, multiple bigger screens and more memory (for work), and new video card (for Battlefield 3). I did buy Sandy bridge stuff for an HTPC... which I still haven't put...

    More memory for i7 machine

What's the difference between DDR3 2000 and DDR3 1600 and DDR3 1333? I think my motherboard supports the 2000, so is that faster? Everywhere I've found the platinum set online is about the same price as if I were to go with a 12GB set. What would you recommend any particular 12GB sets?

    More memory for i7 machine

I think I'll probably do the 12GB set. Will any triple channel DDR3 set do, or should I make sure to get a certain speed?

    More memory for i7 machine

I think I might be due for some more memory, since I keep getting really close to 6GB and have to be careful about what programs are open. It doesn't look like the OCZ memory I bought is available anymore, so instead of trying to get another identical kit of that should I just get something...

Yeah its dimensions are limited. If I were to do it again I'd do a big-honkin case for sure.

Card to buy now in the ~$400 range

The thing is I need to do it this month probably, because the 275 is needed elsewhere. I could probably wait a couple weeks though.

Card to buy now in the ~$400 range

Currently I have a GTX 275, and it works well enough but circumstances have it that I can do an upgrade now. I will either be getting a 30" IPS soon, or 2x 24" IPS monitors, so the card needs to be able to drive a 30" nicely. In terms of games I do mostly Bad Company 2, and I'll definitely be...

    Looking at business class HPs

I'm trying to find a semi-rugged notebook that has a matte screen, and so far I've been interested in the HP 8710w and Elitebook 8730w. What's the difference between the DDR3 and DDR2 in practice? Will I really notice a big difference?

    IPS vs LED

I actually don't like OSX much, I was forced to use it for a couple years for work. Although... I do miss the native shell and built-on-unix part.

    IPS vs LED

I generally try to stay away from Apple products ;) The only thing I have now is an Airport Express, but that might end up on eBay as soon as I find something a bit easier to configure for music streaming.

    IPS vs LED

I'm pretty set on getting a 24" or higher IPS screen, after dealing with a few 2408wfp returns... What's the verdict on the best ones for the money? I'd love to get one for about $400 or less, spending more than that on a monitor makes me feel ill. And how does IPS compare to the LED...

    Wide-angle LCD displays

I have an HP tc4200 which has a Hydis display, that basically gives you full 180 degree visibility. I'm wondering if there's anything now that has equivalent visibility and brightness... because the HP is a few years old now. http://www.pencomputing.com/frames/hp_tc4200.html...

Help me pick new computer parts please!

Current machine is an Athlon XP 3200+ @ 2GHz, ATI x800xl, Antec P180 case, Seasonic PSU that makes way more noise than it should, etc... so I think it's time for an upgrade :) I'll be recycling the DVD burner (I have never burned a DVD in my life), a 250GB hard drive for OS stuff and a Wifi...

Dell 2408WFP might be too-high res?

I might not actually be sitting close enough. I think I used to sit closer to the iMac, but also Apple does some resolution scaling wizardry in their OS. I'm also disappointed with the quality. I bought two of them (found out I really only need one), and one of them has a non-aligned picture...

Dell 2408WFP might be too-high res?

I got used to using 24" iMacs at work, so I finally bought a 2408WFP for home. I've had a hard time getting used to it with Windows because it might be too-high resolution for me. Does anybody have this same issue? Right now I'm back on a 19" ViewSonic at 1440x900 which feels a lot more comfortable.

Anyone use their MacBook primarily on windows?

I don't much like macs because OSX is quite lame IMHO, but over the weekend I happened to have a chance to play with my friend's Macbook Pro, and what he uses for hibernate is called "Deep Sleep." It seems to work well, and you can find more info here...

    Need suggestions for a laptop!

Yeah I know that Asus makes the Macbooks, and I think Quanta makes the Macbook Pro. I have no qualms with the sexiness and build quality... except for the wristpad staining over time. I just don't like OSX. Windows is a good OS in design and speed, but I just wish it were more stable. I'll still...
