A weird situation just popped up on my win 10 pc a few days ago. All of a sudden, when using firefox (default browser) the pc will not play any sounds. However, if using a different browser, playing music or any other application, sounds are fine as are system sounds. It is only firefox that has...
I downloaded the demo, and played for a couple of minutes. Not being a gamer who hasn't played a video game in several years, I have to say that this game is gorgeous! It seems to run fun on pretty low settings (30 frame rate for example), not sure how much of a difference turning it up would...
I have a core i7 6700 cpu, but only an invidia 960gtx graphics card...as well as 16gb of fast memory. Is the game going to play on this pc or will I have problems because of the graphics card?
I'm not a gamer, but thought I might like this game on my new pc. I have heard of issues in the pc version, am wondering if those have been solved and if the game is worth getting. Is it download only or is there a hard copy version available? Also, if I get the game is there a good reasonably...
I am probably going to need a new video card, but wanted to ask your advice. I have a five year old early core i7 pc running win10 (upgraded from win7), and have ongoing video problems. The video card is the original nvidia geforce gtx 470 1gb card. I get random shutdowns, and the pc then...
After windows10 seems to have blown away the operating system on my laptop, it sounds like I will have to do a clean install of win7 to get the laptop workin again. Really not happy, but it's a long story. Anyway, I have a win7 disk from my desktop, but not for the laptop. The laptop does have a...
Won't I need a product key installing win10 this way? It's not clear from what I can read so far. I guess no harm in trying since I have no os on the laptop now anyway.
MS is being pretty unhelpful, maybe not a surprise. Their solution is to go back to Dell/Alienware to get a free recovery disk and product key, then to do a clean install of win7. I probably don't have any choice, cannot get the laptop to do anything other than hang up 'restoring' the old os...
Fresh install of what? The old os or win10? I don't have a hard disk of my os, not with a product key for the laptop anyway...I have a disk for my desktop.
I'm not a happy camper. Upgraded both desktop and laptop to win10 and now have had problems with both. With the desktop, after an update, win10 blew away my entire profile. Didn't lose anything, but it took hours to reset every single thing on the pc.
Now, I boot up my laptop and win10 says...
I have to say that I do regret the upgrade. Upgraded desktop and laptop. Desktop worked fine for about 6 weeks, than after an upgrade my entire profile was blown away and I had to reset every single thing on the pc to restore to where it was took hours.
On my laptop, things worked fine for a...
I am not an insider participant. My files are all backed up to an external hd as well as the cloud, but have never imaged the entire drive. Might have to think about that. Not looking forward to spending the next couple of weeks effectively installing everything and figuring out how I had things...
Spoke to one tech who said he thinks the windows update somehow deleted or corrupted my profile. Not sure what to do about that, but if so I think I'm toast and have to start over again. I do not have a current backup image to use.
I just got back from several days away to a huge problem...
Evidently the latest win10 update blew away every single setting I had on the pc. I believe all the files are ok, but everything from my screensaver to ms outlook to lightroom looks like it is a new install according to the pc...
I do now...I was away for a few days, booted up the pc today and win10 recent update has blown away every single saved setting I had on the pc. All my files are still there, as are all my applications, but every single thing is like I am starting completely over. For example, ms outlook now has...
I just updated the driver for the eXtensible usb 3.0 controller with c216 chipset directly from the Intel website. Rebooted the computer and got the same usb 3.0 error message.
Ok, here is what the bios says on my laptop, for anything that relates to usb...
Intel speed step...enabled

I'm not keen on reinstalling windows (7). As I said, I loaded the latest driver, that didn't do it. I do see the intel usb 3.0 host controller under devices, and other usb 3 devices I've tried do not work as ubs 3 either. Thanks.
How can I check the bios to see if usb 3 is enabled? I reloaded the latest driver and that didn't fix the problem. I haven't uninstalled the controller yet, will try that as well.
I'm pretty sure it is a software/driver issue. The a6210 lets you plug in directly or via its base, and I've tried both and both times am getting the same 'this can run faster' message. Trying to find what might be a new driver to install. Is the right course to try uninstalling the intel...
Thanks. So maybe the color doesn't matter. I do have Intel usb 3.0 extensible host controller, maybe it just isn't working right for some reason. Any ideas on how to get it functioning properly?
I don't think so. I have no 'blue' usb ports any more, as I did on original mb. And when I plug in a usb 3 device, I get the speed message. I don't understand what happened, but Dell/Alienware doesn't care any more..and I guess in some way I don't blame them since it is no longer under warranty...
I have been running speed test with the new usb 3 netgear a6210 adapter, that's how I stupidly realized they downgraded my mb when they replaced it some time ago. It says that the device will be faster performing when plugged into usb 3 ports, so then I started digging around and saw that I only...
This is an odd one, and I am partly to blame for not noticing the issue, but here is the situation...
I have an alienware laptop whose mb died about a year ago under warranty...Great warranty service, they sent the part out and the next day a tech showed up and installed the new board. At the...
Happy to post the registry script, I just wanted to make sure people wanted it here. It came from the ms developer site and the link was sent to me by the tech support guy at the pc company that built the box. I run ccleaner, not registry cleaner. My pc was in the shop to fix a psu problem, and...
Well I got on the phone with tech support at the pc company that built my machine. We went through a specific registry import that ms recommended, and after we did it a few times it worked. So a bit of time wasted, but not too much, and now I'm back to business...without having to reinstall the...
