Comp won't start!

Yeah it was a cpu issue, I took off the heat sink, cos im cool like that and tried it, the cpu immediately complained about the lack of its heatsink and shutdown. put heatsink back and it's all cured... Doesn't sound too healthy but it's happy for now :) It's a microatx board, no CPU power...

    Comp won't start!

Okay, reset didn't work. I'm looking around and as far as I can tell, my Sempron pos should work with the motherboard, and the PSU is brand new and definitely works. Could it be a RAM issue?

    Comp won't start!

Yeah the three bleeps was a ram error, now is a video out issue.. I am bothering with such crappy old parts because I'm having fun with the idea of an oil cooled computer... and I don't want to sink to much money into it.. unless it's successful, in which case I'l put a fair amount of cash...

    Comp won't start!

I built a computer about 20 mins ago... in all respects it should work, new motherboard, trusted second hand ram and refurbed CPU, no gfx as of yet... The comp will turn on and start to boot. It stops after a few seconds and stays in a sort of dead state, not on but not off. Specs: AMD...

Pins for on/off switch on 291042-001

yeah i got that, its in bold lettering indicating the 17 or so pines beneath it are for the power button and various LEDs. I've ran a screwdriver down the middle, in fact I've run three 'drivers down the middle and no luck, I've checked with a multimeter and there are voltages so the board...

    Ethylene Glycol as submersive coolant

Six hours a chip, a diode, a capacitor, rubber band, polyphenelethene strips and some PCB in a beaker of PG. So far no change, still non conductive. I'll test at higher temps tomorrow. Very handy thanks :) PG seems to be relatively inactive in the presence of metals and plastics. 0.6mA @3v...

    Ethylene Glycol as submersive coolant

I bought a small bottle to test it out and instead of containing ethylene glycol as advertised, it contains propylene glycol... would this work? is it inert/hydrophillic? I've just tested the solution with my oh-so=handy multimeter, its got a resisteance of around 11mega ohms... that should...

    Ethylene Glycol as submersive coolant

Well I wasn't sure where the water was coming from, so if it was present in the liquid, distilling would remove it. More water would hopefully not build up as the system would be sealed. But, nonetheless, it's still unsuitable due to its reactivity with some metals and plastics.

Good thing i didnt use it the eh? my comp would likely be dead XD Thanks!

    Ethylene Glycol as submersive coolant

So, other than its hydrophilicity, it'd be a fine alternative to oil then?

    Ethylene Glycol as submersive coolant

Im fine with the toxicity, its only really harmful when ingested directly. But the water build up is more of a problem. Could distilling it help?

    Ethylene Glycol as submersive coolant

In submersed PCs, the coolant is normally mineral oil or vegetable oil etc. Why not Ethylene glycol (liquid cooling coolant:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermaltake-...8458737&sr=8-2) Its effective and can be in all sorts of awesome colours. Ethylene glycol is non-conductive, could it have...

Overclocking Intel Pentium D 2.8GHz to...

My house is a PC graveyard, I have plenty of heatsinks for the job, and a radiator is on the way to cool the oil, which will be circulated through copper pipes(great conductors - further cooling). To make this work, it's EFFORT, not necessarily just $$$$$$ (or £££££)...

Overclocking Intel Pentium D 2.8GHz to...

OR! get a fully working 3.2GHz Intel Celeron D for $13. Perfect for my board and yes practically a radiator, but has a nice large ceramic heat spreader making a lurvly space for the heatsink and fan that's going on there. Once overclocked to say 3.5ish it'l be fine for my spec.
