@ Burpo and @VirtualLarry
Many thanks for the replies.
That i have tried countless times even before the original post, and after, to no avail.
I just disabled UEFI options, which you couldn't delete anyway, only enable or disable.
My understanding was, once all UEFI entries are disabled...
After disabling 3 entries of "Windows boot manager" under UEFI in BIOS, now all i get is blank or black screen. Monitor doesn't even come out of power saving mode and keyboard caps lock / numeric lock lights are not coming up either.
As you can see i'm by no mean expert on motherboards...
Thanks a million for in-depth reply. Since I can't find anything from "HMT41GU6AFR8A-PB" or "H5TC4G83AFR", would this be a good choice:
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory, (1.35 V):

Could this be paired with existing Hynix PC3L 12800U 8GB module?
(1) Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory, (1.5 V):

Edit: Ahh Voltage would be different... 1.35 of Hynix vs 1.5 of Crucial ...
I need help finding equivalent to 8GB (single DIMM) PC3L 12800U memory please. Right now it's 8GB and would like to make it 16GB. The PC is a brand new HP Envy 700-210xt.
The reasons I'm little worried are, "L" in PC3L, and "U" in 12800U. Does that mean low or ultra low voltage or something...
@ Blastman & @ Deders Thanks alot guys.
I have a system with 4GB PC3-10700 memory, so I wanna move 4GB (2 x 2GB) out of this PC with 12GB, and add some more to it. Besides this, usually I have 2 or so VM running most of the time on this PC.
Now if I go with 18GB, it should be like... first 3...
@ Blastman
Many thanks for the reply. And what about "triple" channel? Could I have 16GB as describe in my earlier port or does it have to be 18GB...
Thanks again.
I need help deciding which memory to buy to add in to HP Pavilion 580t desktop PC. Right now it has 12GB triple channel DDR3 PC3-10700 (6 x 2GB) in it, and I would like to make it either 16GB (4 x 2GB + 2 x 4GB) or if it has to be "triple" then, 18GB (3 x 2GB + 3 x 4GB) please.
Now while...
@ Jeff
Regarding disabling anything at all...
I mean if you don't disable anything in Win 7 then you shouldn't disable anything in Win 8 either, as you get DPC latencies between 40 to 160 μs in Windows 7(instead of ~1000 of Win 8), on the same hardware...
@ StokesMSFT
As suggested by ViRGE, I've installed the Windows 8 SDK, and performed two tests while running Windows Performance Recorder on a fresh installation of Windows 8 Pro RTM x64.
The tests have generated 1.79 and 1.92 GB .etl(Windows performance analyzer trace file) files. Let me know...
In Windows 8 Pro x64, by the search term "Performance" I couldn't find "Recorder" but I did find "Performance Monitor".
New Youtube link with Performance Monitor in the video capture.
Here are the screens to get to the Performance Monitor:
I've got similar result to "geissler" too... on a fresh installation of Windows 8 Pro RTM x64 with nVidia 304.79 beta drivers.
Here's the Youtube link for those interested:
@taltamir
it's alright :)
I know it may not considered a real benchmark but here's the screenshot of what Windows experience index with 3rd gen Core i7-3667U + HD 4000 graphics + mSATA SSD looks like... is it good for an ultrabook or no?
@ taltamir
thanks for the reply. Regarding the "final version", you broke down my sentence in half, so please read the sentence in it's entirety.
What i said was:
I should've typed/said differently like, "The reason to install Windows 8 RP is that, the final version of Windows 8 is going to...
Now I knew about RTM and "GA" but (1) I am not gonna have an access to RTM (like Technet or MSDN) and (2) even if somehow I get ISO from somewhere, I'm certainly not gonna have a valid product key to activate it. So for me, the first available date will be when Microsoft makes it available via...
Lonyo, dma0991 & taltamir
Many thanks for the replies.
I'll go with the Diskpart from the Windows 8 install screen for this ultrabook.
The reason to install Windows 8 RP is that it's final version, "general availability", going to be released in October and I don't want to wait four months...
How should I "remove" Windows 7 from a brand new(it's still in the box) HP Spectre XT Ultrabook 13t-2000 to install Windows 8 Release Preview on its 128GB mSATA SSD...
Now as I understand, I should NOT "format" an SSD like a hard drive(on an HDD i would run dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdx bs=1M...
@ lsv & Patmage
Thank you guys... besides Patmage's Newegg link the only PCI card I could find is HIS HD 4350 at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/HIS-Radeon-HD4.../ref=de_a_smtd) which as per Amazon "not yet been released" and available for pre-order. HD 4350 not released yet ??
Anyway I'm gonna...
@ OVerLoRDI & Qbah
thanks a million for lightning fast replies...
tomorrow I'm gonna call ATI & Gigabyte to find out about Qbah's HD5450+HD4350 option first and if it's not possible than will go with OVerLoRDI's mini displayport to DVI then DVI to HDMI option.
I want to connect a 24" LCD monitor plus three 1080p HDTVs to a PC. At first I was planning to buy a XFX Radeon 6950 & Corsair 750/850 PSU to upgrade existing XPS 8100 (i7 860, 6GB) and connect the monitor to DVI, and use 1 HDMI (native) & 2 mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters to connect 3 TVs (to...
@ FishAk
Many thanks for the reply. The only reason I use RAM disk is to get more speed out of Firefox/web page loading and it's the only application I run from RAM disk. I copy (only once) entire Firefox-Portable folder in to RAM disk & disable caching. At system shutdown it saves RAM disk as...
So far I've tried Virtual Hard Drive Pro 2.0 and Dataram RAMDisk to run Firefox-Portable from, on Windows 7 64bit. Apart from occasional BSOD both runs ok... I was wondering if there's faster RAM disk / drive out there and how to measure it's performance!
Many thanks in advance.
After replacing the new OCZ memory PC boots just fine for the first time but freezes pretty soon and then it won't boot at all, it just keeps rebooting or sometime stays black (blank) after bios screen. I think I remember correctly but not sure as I tried this 4/5 times few weeks ago and...
things that I can change are under "CPU feature" and "Adv chipset settings" (have attached pics in earlier post) but there's no option even remotely available with a name memory or RAM. Guess that 8GB will be heading straight to eBay :(
@ ChippyUK & Mr. Pedantic
many thanks for the replies guys but I'm afraid that I don't see any option in BIOS for (a) memory voltage or (b) any kinda RAM settings. is this a common thing or I need some kinda special key combination (instead of F2) to get next level access to make those changes...
hi guys, this is a first post from a noob. And let me start by saying that I'm not into overclocking or anything, I'm just trying to upgrade the RAM from 6 to 8 GB on a Dell XPS 8100.
After replacing RAM with new 8 GB (4x2GB) OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 Platinum Low Voltage Dual Channel...
