I need to duplicate the desktop of a PC to that PC's monitor and 2 TV's in other locations that will be connected via HDMI over Cat 6 wall plates.
I tried using an HDMI splitter but the HDMI over Cat 6 will not send that signal for some reason (or I have a bad splitter).
Therfore, I am...
I'm looking for a fix that seems to be a common problem with Widows 7 and USB printers but I have not been able to find a real fix for it.
Have a home network wth Desktop with Win XP, old laptop with Win XP and new laptop with Win 7. Linksys router, Trendnet print server, 1 Canon Pixma printer...
The print server works fine with the XP machines though so I didn't think that would be the cause. I suppose it might be a compatibility issue between the print server and Win 7 though but it's strange that it will work one time and then stop. Plus the other people having problems that I saw in...
From what I see in internet searches this is a common problem but I have not run across an answer yet.
My sister has 2 USB printers connected to a Trendnet print server into a router of a home network. She uses a laptop with Win 7 Pro. When we first set up the printers they worked that day...
I cannot find a way to print the list of "Sent Items" in Windows Fax and Scan. It gives me the option to print each fax I sent but I cannot print the "List" of faxes. Using a screen shot is not a viable option because the list can be very long.
Doesn anyone know a work around for this?
Thanks for your help. I was hoping to avoid the extra clicks to look at a folder and then make a selection but it sounds like that is not possible in Win 7.
Carol
Does anyone know how to pin a shortcut to a folder to the Win 7 Taskbar? I can pin software shortcuts but I need to pin shortcuts to a few folders I use on a regular basis.
It was a piece of cake in XP but not 7.
Our office uses a lot of macro's in Excel. We had been using MS Office version 2007. Recently we began upgrading to Office 2010 when we would install a fresh OS (Win 7 Pro in this case)
We were fine with Windows 7 Pro and Office 2007 so it seems to be an Office 2010 issue.
Typically to...
Operating System: XP Pro, IE 8
System has been scanned regularly with AVG Antivirus, Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes. All of the mentioned applications are up to date. The cookies file cannot be deleted manually and the scanning software doesn't pick it up. If logged in as Administrator...
Also, the PC that we were looking at the files with had Win XP Pro on it and the laptop hard drive was attached as an external drive. So the "Take Ownership" is an XP operating system taking ownership of the files on a drive with the Vista OS on it. Hopefully that won't create another issue.
Thanks for the suggestions, I will try them out. I know that the user already had Administrative rights but these other work arounds should do the trick.
Thanks again!
:-)
I have removed a good hard drive from a dead laptop and need to copy the personal files from My Documents for the only user on the system. I think the operating system was Vista (probably home premium).
I placed the HD in a dock and plugged into my PC via USB. I could view the contents however...
No, only the Driver removal is in the control panel. It gives me a choice of Display, IDE, PCI or Ethernet drivers to remove. It does not list the Nvidia Control Panel or Media Center Tray in the list of programs. If I uninstall the video driver the control panel does not start up anymore. I to...
Win XP Pro - I am trying to stop the NVidia Control Panel and Media Center Tray (nvcpl.dll and nvmctray.dll) from auto starting. I unchecked them in the msconfig startup and they regenerated. I deleted them from the run folder in the registry and they regenerated.
What do I need to do to...
I used the Microsoft solution first and that one worked. I was prepared to try the Device Manager option but I didn't need to.
Thanks again for the help. I used GoToAssist to remotely fix the problem for my friend in another state.
Technology is fantastic!!!!!!!!
I have been helping a friend (via long distance) with an XP Pro system that the (IDE) DVD drive stopped appearing in the list of drives.
We have replaced the drive, taken the drive from it's own cable and added it to the hard drive cable (selected slave for that). It still would not recognize...
That userinit was missingandthat did the trick. I am scanning the system right now with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it has already found some items.
Thanks a lot for your help!
I have seen that MS Anti-Spyware on other machines. I will try that software you recommended to scan this machine and others that I might see that malware on.
Thanks for the reply!
I am working an a Win XP machine for a friend. At the Welcome Screen the only user name icon that displays is Administrator. When I click on that icon it hesitates for a few seconds and then comes right back to that Welcome Screen with the Admin icon. The same thing happens in the Safe Mode...
I will have to check the web cam brand. It is built into the laptop. The PC that is freezing up doesn't have any web cam, it is just receiving the video from the laptop web cam. That video that is being received is what freezes.
I will try sending to a PC on a different network and if that...
I am trying to get my web cam working so that I can share some time with my family for Christmas.
I have a built in web cam on my laptop (Vista Home Premium). I installed AIM because all of us already have AOL screen names so it was the easiest way to go.
Web cam works fine on the laptop. I...
I uninstalled Symantec WinFax Pro from a system with Win XP Pro SP3. I cleaned out all references to this software from the registry and tried to reinstall. I have done this many times on other computers on the company network with no problem. This time I received the following message when I...
I can get by with 14 ports. There are a couple of locations that I will hardly ever use. I can swap 2 of them around as needed.
The 100Mbps switch will be fine so I should be able to find an inexpensive one as you pointed out.
Thanks for your help!
I currently have an 8 port hard wired router connected to a cable modem. I need 16 ports. I do not want a wireless rounter. I will never trust the security on wireless and the speed is not as good as wired.
Can I piggy back one router into another or do I use a hub or what? I didn't think...
As far as the wall plates go, I use Leviton one gang low voltage mounting brackets. They bend to hold tight to the hole you cut in the wall. Then you purchase a modular face plate with the RJ45 connector. You punch down the cat 5 onto the RJ45 connector and you have a nice professional...
I have a brand new computer Win XP Pro and upon the first shut down I got the message "DW20.exe-DLL Initialization Failed The application failed to initialize because the Windows workstation is shutting down." I had the hard drive reformatted and XP reinstalled and I am still gettingthat error...
I am using Winfax Pro 10.02 on Windows XP SP3. Today the following message pops up whenever I try to start Winfax: Another user on this computer is using Winfax. Please try again later.
In the task manager there are no applications running. In the processes tab there seemed to be one process...
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!
The fist suggestion on the list did the trick (reinstalling the Win Update Agent).
I love these forums because you sure can't find anything on the MS site very easily.
Thanks again!
In response to the first reply, I wasn't getting any error messages, just that the install failed.
I will try these steps now and post the resutls when I am done.
Thanks for your help!
I restored the original software on an HP Media Center pc m260n (from the mfg restore disks). When I got the initial XP updates from MS, most of the updates installed including SP3. I'm not sure if that is what is causing the problem. Three updates did not install. I have downloaded some of...
It turned out to be the monitor - no replies necessary
I am troubleshooting a problem for a friend, long distance so this isn't easy.
When they boot up Win XP Pro they get the message "Out of scan range resolution > XGA". I assume it is a video error. It will boot into safe mode but...
Thanks for the links and information. I will try this removal tool. All of the malware programs I have tried only partially remove it and then it comes right back.
I am trying to clean up a friends teenage daughters computer (Win XP Home)
I have taken everything out of the registry that I can find. Obviously, I am missing the hidden piece that regenerates this spyware.
Can anyone point me to that pesky ah heck?
Will this prevent the Windows validation...
If you are getting the same interference with 2 different monitors and 2 different cables (one hard wired and one not), it doesn't sound like a cable problem to me.
