Charlie at Semiaccurate says: Physics hardware makes Kepler/GK104 fast

If NVidia gives the developers a lot of green pieces of paper with dead presidents on them, they'll bend backwards and use the middleware. And it's a bit more than half of the people, Steam survey says that NVidia is around 60% while ATI around 40%.

    i7-3930K vs Opteron 6272...

Wow. You lack even the basic knowledge of threads, processes and processors. And I am crazy enough to argue about server loads with you. Wow. I am speechless.

    i7-3930K vs Opteron 6272...

I am repeating because you don't want to or are incapable to understand certain basic server loads. If you have an application that waits a lot (Minecraft server) for various IO operations, IPC isn't a prime quality you want in a CPU. My facts are decades of computer engineering. Fact...

    i7-3930K vs Opteron 6272...

Got it. You have no clue. I see you are a genius CPU designer, what's your background? It's easy to be armchair CPU designer. Isn't? The fact is that server sides, Interlagos is competitive with Xeons and costing far less is pretty damn nice. Is it the holy grail of CPUs? Hell no, it has many...

    i7-3930K vs Opteron 6272...

That's really golden. You complain about ignorance. How many lines of server application code you have written? How many servers do you regularly maintain? How many server applications have you designed? What is your server background? Please enlighten us of your server experience since you...

[Toms] CPU bottlenecking in games - the <$200 CPUs

Yup, people who work 14 hours a day, often 6 days a week are 'lazy'. People whining about lack of true multithreaded games needs to realize a few things: (1) It's extremely hard to write good MT code. (2) Most games are console ports, no need for MT given current processor power. (3) When your...

    i7-3930K vs Opteron 6272...

People run Minecraft servers on laptops and old machines, so I doubt any serious IPC is required to run it. IMHO, you need two things: as many physical cores as possible and a lot, and I mean a lot of RAM.

Have you had serious issues with your TRIM-enabled SSD as a boot drive (Vista/Win7)?

My OCZ Vertex 2 lost the partition table after not being used for 3 weeks. Crucial m4, Intel 320 and 2 x Intel 311 never had issues.

Would AMD be better off if they had not developed Bulldozer?

Now, remove your client (Desktop) glasses and put on your server glasses. Suddenly, Bulldozer isn't an illogical move at all. They sure missed the implementation on many fronts, but the idea is damn good. I think that in the long run it will pay off once the 32nm process matures and more PD...

SSD reliablity dependance on what main factor?

Crucial m4 issue: 5200 hours of usage later, BSOD every hour. On the other hand, I do kind of agree with if a firmware works, leave it. I still have firmware 1.29 on my Vertex 2, not gonna update it because it's been working for a year.

Blind CPU test: 2700k vs 8150k

    Cool story bro!

Blind CPU test: 2700k vs 8150k

If you don't 'see', how can you notice it? What senses are being used? Smell? Touch? Taste? Hearing? I am curios, honestly, how people can tell the difference between 60 and 120 fps while the eye and brain can't process anything more than north 30 fps (and I am being generous).
  13. E

Blind CPU test: 2700k vs 8150k

Your brain can't tell the difference. The brain 'memorizes' an image about 1/15th of a second, then it moves to next. So there is no way a human can 'see' 60 fps. Nothing to do with being blind, is just that our own internal computer has limits.

Flash memory stick or external hard drive for backing-up data files?

Encrypt your files in truecrypt container then use two or more cloud services (Google Docs, SkyDrive, Ubuntu One or DropBox or whatever). Keep a copy or two on USB keys.

Poll: Would you buy a case without 5.25" (optical drive) bays?

Stopped putting optical drives in my machines about 3 years ago. Have an external USB DVD reader/writer in case I need it (happens once a year maybe). Any recent OS can be installed from USB flash drives anyways.

    Blue screen code question

Looks like 0xD1 = add QPI/VTT voltage issue maybe. But the 116 bugcheck code seems to be the video card/driver issue. Do you have a dump file? If yes, download Microsoft Debugger, load file and type !analyze -v to see what driver caused it.

AMD Phenom II X6 1045T, or Sandy Bridge 2500K?

First, as others pointed out, inferior is highly subjective, depending on which angle you look at it. Second, yes, the comment was from another thread, but it's perfectly made for this one because it just illustrates how you are a big hypocrite. In one thread you tell people not to bash AMD...

Rumor: AMD to Undercut Ultrabooks up to $200 (Digitimes)

Not sure if I was clear enough ... (1) Folding machine + other CPU intensive crap = 1% of the population. I am pretty sure my mom, sister, brother in law, daughter, niece (and 99% of the population) don't know and don't care what folding is. (2) Word, Facebook, Browsing, Watching pr0n, etc =...

Rumor: AMD to Undercut Ultrabooks up to $200 (Digitimes)

And that's a problem ... because? Go to an enthusiast laptop forum and you'll notice that quite a lot of people ditch their optical drives for an extra hard drive/SSD. The vast majority of the computer user need nothing more than a modest dual core processor from about 4 years ago. You...

Why Ivy Bridge Is Still Quad-Core?

See Edrick, someone understands Economics 101. And yes, competition is only half the reasons why prices will go down. If AMD had Bulldozer matching or coming close to SB-E performance, they would put immense pressure on Intel if they had priced it below Intel's offering. Then, Intel would had...

Why Ivy Bridge Is Still Quad-Core?

Care to explain video game market then? Oh and market trend in a market with a monopolist that has abused its monopoly power is not a good reference. Again, Economics 101 > you.
  28. E

Why Ivy Bridge Is Still Quad-Core?

It's amazing how many people don't understand basic capitalism. If both companies would build similar performance processors we would have a competition level that is the same as video cards where there is a video card for pretty much every 20$ increment until you hit the king of the hill...

Why Ivy Bridge Is Still Quad-Core?

Economics 101 > you. Why do PC prices constantly go down year after year. You can get pretty much the same PC from many PC makers with very similar components yet prices go down. Hint: Economics at work, more precisely, capitalism at work. Something you ignore. When there is established...

Why Ivy Bridge Is Still Quad-Core?

Oh because Intel calls that 'Extreme' and 'Workstation Platform' they can charge an eye and kidney for it while AMD can give you more cores for pretty damn cheap? You are delusional if you believe that Intel (1) isn't milking it (2) would charge this much if AMD offered real competition. Which...

Why Ivy Bridge Is Still Quad-Core?

Show me servers with VMWare Workstation or Virtualbox installed (hint: you won't find a non retarded company/admin doing that). I bolded the 'Workstation' for a reason. VMWare Workstation = server workload? Lay off the crackpipe, will ya. Also, I am too cheap to buy a 550$+ CPU and 300$+...

Why Ivy Bridge Is Still Quad-Core?

Thank you Captain Obvious! Care to explain how AMD can do it? Release a nice six core chip that costs about the same as their top end quad core? If Intel had real competition, you think their 6 core chip would cost 550$+?
  34. E

Why Ivy Bridge Is Still Quad-Core?

Strange. AMD can make a sub 200$ 6 core CPU yet Intel with 6+ times the R&D budget can't? Oh and pay more for CPU? R&D is done on it. You think the Phenom II x4, Llano and x6 are different beasts? Same damn core with some minor updates for the x6 and a graphics core stuck to Llano. No one is...

    Can AMD "rescue" the Bulldozer?

I would have gone a different way, don't try to cram an obvious server CPU into consumer desktops. Whenever CMT was a mistake or not, it's done. AMD can't go back in time and fix it, but they could do a few steps to make it less painful for desktop users.

Why Ivy Bridge Is Still Quad-Core?

Another ignorant post. You do realize people do other things on their machines than a little encoding here and there that could require more cores?
  37. E

Why Ivy Bridge Is Still Quad-Core?

Wow, that's just pure ignorance. Because you can't see people needing 4+ cores, there can't be a use for it. I run 4+ virtual machines on my 1090T. I don't need massive speeds, just separate cores. I also don't want to spend 800$+ on a CPU + motherboard just so that I can get my work done...
