So I tried a driver from Intel's website recommended to me by a user at Tweaktown and it worked! So now my version is July 2012, which should be fine for Ivy Bridge...
I recently received an i7-3770K that I want to install in my mobo to replace my i5-2500K. In order for my ASrock Extreme 3 Gen 3 Z68 motherboard to support the i7 Ivy Bridge, I had to update my BIOS to the latest 2.30 version. I did this just fine with Instant Flash, BIOS is all good to go --...
It actually needs a BIOS update to make Ivy Bridge work. ASrock advises updating BIOS and then swapping the CPU. See Q&A-92 in this FAQ.

I've read that updating to ivy bridge renders Sandy bridge CPUs unusable on the newest BIOS...
I would like some opinions on the build I'm looking to do in anticipation for the releases of Grand Theft Auto V and The Witcher 3 next month on PC. I also do some video-editing on the side.
My current build:
Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0...
I'm going to have my friend's father take a look at it. Perhaps he can notice something that I can't. We'll have to reassemble everything and see if that will do anything. At the moment I won't be checking each individual part but I know that there are no noticeable burning marks of any kind.
These are the parts I got:
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

ASrock Gen3 Z68...
Ended up going with the ASrock anyway, along with that dual fan version of the graphics card I wanted. Should be delivered today. Thanks again for the help!
Thanks. I'm not sure if I'm completely sold by the ASRock. I like the bluetooth capability of the ASUS, but perhaps it's not worth an extra $50. I'm not too familiar with the ASRock brand either.
Made a thread a while ago asking for recommendations for a computer upgrade (basically looking to run current games at max, like Witcher 2 and Battlefield 3, and be prepared for Mass Effect 3, Bioshock Infinite, etc.)

That's the old...
Hmm, I noticed that Crossfire isn't supported on this motherboard. Part of me would like to have that option in the future just in case. Is CrossFire and SLI better than it was a few years back?
Thanks. I can't seem to find the LX version of Newegg though. There's the non-LX one though. One reviewer said something about slow boot times though:

I'm slowly inching towards finally getting a computer upgrade (hoping Cyber Sunday/Monday will have some good deals).
I was originally looking into getting this Gigabyte Z68 motherboard but I'm having second thoughts after reading some reviews, such as SATA port placement issues in addition...
I was looking at these, they seem like a nice upgrade from my current speakers:
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Surro...2038885&sr=8-4
I like how there are more inputs on the subwoofer, too.
Unfortunately I don't have any soldering experience..should I just replace the speakers? I can't replace the wire by other means because it's embedded into the right speaker.
I've had my Logitech X-530 5.1 speakers for 6 years now, and for a while now the left speaker's been giving me issues. Sometimes the left speaker will cut out completely, leaving me with sound only coming out of the right speaker. When I jostle the green plug, connected to my sound card, I can...
I know this thread's a few months old but I figured I'd resurrect it in case I need to update this "wishlist." I noticed that the Graphics Card is no longer available on New Egg. I have a job now so I'm hoping to finally be able to afford a system upgrade around August. Should I wait for...
Using the NewEgg Wattage calculator I've realized that I'd need a bigger power supply, 'cause a 6950 would push it over 600W.

*sigh* Power Supply recommendations? 1000W?
Here's the current setup:
Modem --> Vonage Box (which has phone lines connected)
Vonage Adapter --> Airport Extreme
Airport Extreme --> PC1, Switch1, Switch2
Switch1 --> PS3, PC2
Switch2 (one ethernet port empty) --> Living Room, Another Room, Father's Laptop
Right now the Vonage...
What's wrong with the i7? Also, please recommend a "beefier" GPU, as I was content with a 6870, but if you have something better in mind, please show.
I'll take another look at RAM on New Egg.
OK forgive the double-post: With one stick in (2GB) on the right yellow slot I was able to boot up and start up Windows 7 normally. Does this mean faulty ram stick? I will try booting with the other ram stick and using all 4 slots to try and see...
I took the RAM out and turned the computer on. Almost immediately I got one long beep followed by two short beeps: "BEEEEP BEEP-BEEP" over and over again.
Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro
Graphics Card: VisionTek ATI Radeon HD 4870
Okay, so I was just organizing things on my computer when after I try to bring up my Firefox window, the computer freezes. I hold the power button in to turn it off, restart the computer, and when this happens my monitor...
When I disable all recording devices, "What U Hear" goes from "Temporarily Unavailable" to "Default Device." But when I hit record on Audacity and then record whatever I hear on my computer, all I get it a strange, choppy, staticy sound. I'm not sure what's going on.
EDIT: Nevermind, figured...
Sorry, I'm reposting this from the audio board because I haven't gotten a response from there...
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. I was able to record things through my sound card with "What U Hear" (so that you can record something that's playing on your computer) using Audacity, but now it...
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. I was able to record things through my sound card with "What U Hear" (so that you can record something that's playing on your computer) using Audacity, but now it doesn't even work, because Audacity & Sound Recorder can't recognize my "What U Hear" option. In the...
I tried some other audio sources and it seems like I was wrong about the black plug doing anything. If I go with the switch that YOyoYOhowsDAjello posted, what else would I need to buy exactly?
Actually, I've noticed that while the black and orange plugs don't seem to do anything in a 2.1 setup, when I remove the black plug through the game console adapter, the game console audio doesn't seem complete..am I imagining things? It really does seem like the black plug makes a difference.
Here's a crude sketch of what my sound setup in my dorm is like (I use a Logitech X-530 5.1 Speaker System, but in my dorm I only bring two speakers so it's stereo):
Sound setup for PC & PS3/Wii
Basically, I have to unplug my speakers from my PC and plug them into that converter. Is there...
Background:

PC is hooked up to router, and Playstation 3 is hooked up to router via ethernet as well (I was using WiFi before but no longer).
I've been having trouble connecting my PS3 online, it's strange. I fail to sign in, and then when...
Please disregard, I managed to solve the problem!
It was a setting in BIOS. I had Harddrives set as AHCI or something like that, instead of IDE. That caused the BSOD. All is well now.
I ordered new parts for my PC (a big overhaul) and I need help on trying to access the screen where I can reformat my hard drive and make partitions:
My old parts:
