    News on Ivy Bridge-E?

Has anything been leaked/rumoured lately? Have been busy and not paying attention to hardware news. I remember people on this forum claiming it would be out by Q4 2012, but the last I heard (August 2012) was Q3 2013?

Restrict bandwidth on a wireless VLAN - possible with DD-WRT? Linksys 310N

Hey guys, I recently setup a wireless VLAN for guests at our place using DD-WRT v24 preSP2 (Build13064) on a Linksys 310N gigabit/wifi-N router. I have the VLAN setup to be fully segregated on it's own subnet with no access to my LAN, but provide internet access, and it is working well...

Slow page loads in Chrome - but IE9/FF12 are fine on same PC?

Hi, I recently built a new system (specs in sig). I've been using Chrome at work and on my personal laptop/netbook for a while now and decided to switch on my desktop as I had been using FireFox. For some reason, loading web pages and streaming video (YouTube) will sometimes delay for...

Asus Z77 Fan Xpert 2 questions

Hi, If anyone has one of the new Asus Z77 boards, I'm wondering if they could answer a couple questions about the included Fan Xpert 2 software: 1) Can you control the speed of 3-pin fans via voltage control? Or only 4-pin PWM fans? 2) Are each of the fan headers controllable...

[vr-zone] OCZ Vertex 4 - based on Indilinx Everest 2 controller

This is a rumour site, but this looks pretty credible. Curious what performance will be like, looks like they are focusing on both compressible and non-compressible workloads. Should be announced next week at CEBit...

New Chronos Deluxe SSD - did I setup correctly? Also Intel RST DL?

Hi guys, (TL;DR - first SSD, migrated Windows 7, old motherboard, wondering about performance and Intel RST, questions at bottom) As some of you may have seen from my recent posts, I recently ordered a Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240GB SSD which also happens to be my first SSD. I picked it up...

    2x 128gb SSD (cheaper) in RAID-0 or 1x 256gb (more expensive)?

Hi, Seeing the Vertex 3 128gb on sale for $150 after rebate has me thinking about options for my SSDs for my Ivy Bridge build. Current pricing is shaking out such that 2x 128gb SSDs will be around $300-350 for OCZ Octane, Vertex 3 and few others after rebate while 1x 256gb is $380-470...

UPDATE: which would you buy XFX PRO850W XXX for $109 or OCZ ZT Series 750W for $79?

Update: After spending a bunch of time reading about power supplies over the weekend, I've found two deals and I am tempted to go for one of them now (see build specs below). the XFX is the same as the "Black" edition which had bright green fans, but it is now coloured differently. Jonnyguru has...

    GTX570 or 6970 for Q6600 OC'd? $300 budget

Hi, I know there is a similar thread from a guy running a Q6600, my situation is a bit different. I've been running a GTX280 in my Q6700 @ 3.3GHz since August 2008 and am contemplating an upgrade, rest of specs are in signature. I'm waiting on a total re-build until next year. I can get a GTX...

How far off is a Intel chipset w/ native Thunderbolt, USB3, SATA6?

Hi, After reading the Ivy Bridge updates on AT, I was disappointed to see that the next rollforward of the consumer and enthusiast platforms will not include native Thunderbolt/Lightpeak support, and X79 will not even include native USB3. Are there any rumours on when Intel is going to...

What 2TB drives are you buying for storage lately?

Hi, One of my old Seagate 500GB storage drives is starting to have issues, so I want to buy some new drives before outright failure occurs. I've been looking at 2TB drive prices and am having trouble figuring out a course of action. The 5400/5900RPM drives are significantly (around 50%)...

Transmission/clutch problem? Gas pedal = RPMs up without power to wheels?

Hi - as a disclaimer I have an embarrassingly bad understanding of the mechanics of cars, please excuse me. Tried to search but not sure what terms to use. I drive a 1998 Toyota Camry with a manual transmission, 232,000km. Over the last month, I've noticed on highway driving that if I am...

Home printing, laser vs inkjet, cost minimization over printer lifetime

Hi, We need to purchase a printer for home use. It will be printing mostly B&W documents, with some colour documents. From what I've read I've gathered the following: Inkjet: - Best at photos - Extremely expensive consumables (ink), newer models have chips to prevent using OEM...

DVD burning software for Windows 7 (free or retail)

Hi, I'm installing Windows 7 soon and am wondering what people recommend for DVD/CD burning software these days. Asus P5B: Using AHCI = no SMART for HDDs?

I'm using an Asus P5B Deluxe (965 based, yeah it's old). I'm using AHCI mode for my hard drives, and when I do so I do not get SMART information (at boot or in Speedfan). If I change to IDE mode I have an option in BIOS for SMART. Is this a known issue with ICH7R or something?

    L4/L5 herniated disc - advice?

Hi, I finally got in to see a sports med doctor last week and was diagnosed with an L4/L5 disc herniation. Here's a timeline of how I think it happened: Mid-December 2009, doing a PR 5RM set of deadlifts I felt a tweak in my glute/lower back. It was pretty minor in terms of pain, I didn't...

    D-Link 343 NAS experiences?

Hi, I've searched and read a few old threads. I'm wondering if some D-Link 343 NAS owners can chime in on their experiences with the unit? I'm interested in real world speed experience and any quirks/firmware issues people have encountered. I want to buy a 4-bay NAS with 2TB HD's for a 6TB...

Calories in vs. calories out, caloric quality etc.

Furmark - very high GPU temps on stability

Hi guys, I recently downloaded Furmark as an artifact/stability checker for my video card overclock. Running in stability mode (1280x1024 2X AA) with the fan on auto quickly ramps the fan speed up to 100% and the card slowly creeps up to 103c after 200 seconds. I closed the benchmark at this...

GTX 280 - 8 pin and 6 pin power - adapters good enough?

Calorie burn/heart rate measures on machines
