    New build, slow boot-up

Thanks. "Quick Post" is enabled. I have disabled the one disk controller I'm not using. Not much luck. Maybe I'm not explaining it correctly. When I hit the power button, I don't see anything on the monitor for 30-32 seconds. Then the "POST" screen appears that says "Press DELETE for BIOS, Press...

    New build, slow boot-up

Thanks all. I have a 60 SSD on which I have the OS - 64bit Win7 - and a few programs loaded. All my user data is on another 1TB SATA drive. When I get home later today I'll muck around with BIOS settings to reduce the 33 seconds it takes to bring up the POST screen. After the POST screen it...

    New build, slow boot-up

Hi Guys, I put together a new rig. Very happy with everything so far but wish my boot-up time could be quicker. From the time I hit the start button on my PC, I get the POST screen in 33 seconds and the Windows 7 login screen at 51 seconds. For a new rig with Intel i7-870 CPU and 8GB RAM, that's...

Driver causing PC to hang at start-up

Guys, I just put together a new rig. The video card is MSI N450GTS-M2D1G5/OC. I downloaded the driver for Win7 64-bit from msi.com. It makes my PC freeze at the boot-up screen for anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 seconds before showing me the Windows login screen. When I uninstall the driver, the...

    New Build Trouble

lol i forgot this one yesterday and felt like a total dumbass. btw, my video card has a power cable with TWO molex connectors. I'm not supposed to plug both molex connectors into the PSU, do I? It runs fine when I plug one in and runs fine when both are plugged in too. WHy are there two molex...

    software that comes with components

Guys I'm just wondering. I can see a lot of sense in installing the driver that comes with my graphics card. Do I really need to install the software that comes with it? Isn't Windows enough to tweak monitor settings? Likewise, I got a DVD with the DVD-RW drive. What do I need it for? What...

k so my machine has four drives. all SATA. One's an SSD and this is the boot drive. BIOS recognizes all four drives but Windows recognizes only three, the SSD and two other regular drives. It doesn't see the 1TB SATA drive I just bought. Opinions/thoughts/help? :)

    New Build Trouble

triple-check your memory. One side of one of my DDR3 sticks was barely 1-2 mm lifted up from the socket and I got that light too. Very carefully and firmly press the mem sticks into their sockets. ya me too. I have 4 HDs in the system. In BIOS all four show up but in Windows only three show...

one of the memory sticks was 1-2mm off...that's it...and the mobo didn't like it. What was also nice is that the mobo displays a solid red light next to the mem slots, if the mem is incompatible or incorrectly inserted. so far so good. all drives recognized. Win 7 64-bit install is in...

Just put together everything. The "boot LED" on the mobo lights up green, the CPU fan spins, the video card fan spins...but no signal on the monitor. I know the monitor/cable are good. Tried putting my old video card back in. No luck. Any help?

full size KB that has laptop-like feel

:) Thanks a bunch. Last question....will all these components come with wires/connectors I'll need? Any oh-you-forgot-to-buy-this type of thing? Are you suggesting I should replace the case fans (3) or just replace them only if they die? I'll say they've seen maybe 6000 hours of use so far.

mfenn, appreciate the help here. I'll go with the video card and PSU you suggested. I got a couple of stupid questions at this point: My existing hard drives are 3.5" and so are the enclosures in my computer case. Looks like I'll need to get some adapters to fit 2.5" drives in 3.5"...

Thanks for the recos, mfenn. These video cards should have a decibel number in their technical specs so people like me can understand which ones are loud. Yeah I definitely don't want a noisy PC.
