2600K @ 5GHZ, How common is it really???

Thats about the volts I was pulling @5ghz on my 2500k, the temps were no more then 80c at max load for over an hour which is fine by my own standards but thats just too much voltage to run daily all year then I'm comfortable with. I would run this at 4.8 if I wanted a max OC daily but I'm using...

    System76 Computers

Yep these are all Sager (north american dealer for Clevo laptops). The best Sager reseller is xoticpc IMO, lowest prices and good customer service. Sagers are great laptops, high performance, good build quality and prices on upgrades are no more then the cost of the parts themselves. But they...

Anyone have any experiece with Sager laptops?

good build but I would reccomend upgrading to the 1080p monitor (which is available on all models), and you might consider the np5160 which is about $50 more with a better gpu (with optimus so battery life is the same) and 900p monitor by default. Though you won't need the gpu headroom there...

    Need a new laptop... Again

fixed. Sager's are the best bang for buck in performance and xoticpc is a really great dealer you get to customize your order as much as possible even if you don't get a sager.

About to finalize a purchase on laptop; need help narrowing it down.

if I were you I would get the Sager 8150 with the hd6970 for $1500 (which is faster then the gtx470m) http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8150-clevo-p150hm-p-2972.html?wconfigure=yes Or if the gtx460m is enough for you, you can get the Sager 8130 with gtx460m for $1200...

    Sager NP5160 Heat Concerns

Is there any difference in temps with optimus enabled? (My 5160 hasn't arrived yet so I don't know) Surely you don't need to use the discrete gpu while browsing the web. I would just set up a power mode so that the cpu doesnt turbo by setting the max clock to 99%. As far as performance goes...

    Advice required.

Do you need a quadcore for rendering/encoding or a dualcore for effeciency? 13" screen I take it? What are you looking for in build quality? Price range? The Sony Vaio S is pretty good for around $999

    College-Bound and Origin?

I totally agree with Fuzzymath. I used to have a dell xps 17" that i would lug around everywhere back in 2006, worst investment I've ever made. High end laptops go obsolete quick and they just generally don't age well (eventually it just died, high power discrete graphics don't necessarily help...

    College-Bound and Origin?

OP, you can get the same specs as that Origin in a Sager NP8150-S1 for $2269 (Origin's are just rebranded Sagers anyway. Which btw are great laptops) http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8150s1-clevo-p150hm-p-2981.html?wconfigure=yes Vertex 3 240gb $430...

Laptop for Battlefield 3; High settings, 1080P - Is it reasonable?

At max settings BFBC2 will run at 30 fps @1080p on a gtx460M. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Asus-G73JW-Notebook-GTX-460M.37056.0.html Option 1: get something with the GTX460M (and lower settings when bf3 comes out) for about 1300 bucks Option 2: upgrade to the gtx485 (which might be...

    Clevo W170HN - worth it?

those i7 mobile chips are quad core the i5 mobile are dual core. The i7 2630qm is the one you want. Also about the $220 upgrade for the screen. Its worth it, you get twice gamut rating, the color quality difference is huge. I just purchased the 15" version with the 1080p matte finish 95%...

    Is this STOCK SB cooling?

Because the major difference between the 2500k and 2600k is hyperthreading and with 4 cores most games do not utilize hyperthreading by any meaningful degree. In other words the 2600k does not offer very much at all over the 2500k in gaming.

I don't buy into new platforms very often, I own 3 lga 775 chips for example. In the coming month I'm going to invest in the lga1155 platform. What can lga1155 adopters expect from the platform in terms of support for future processor releases? Is lga1155 going to be just the "quadcore"...

Need multicore processor for dedicated server

I'm streaming video to Justin.tv using webcammax and Flash Media Encoder 2.5 @~1300kbps 640x480 Nevermind the cpu cost of streaming/encoding video, its an unavoidable performance cost. I should mention that Flash Media Encoder is multithreaded and will spread itself out onto at least 4 cores...

Need multicore processor for dedicated server

I built a dedicated server for my website using an e8400 earlier this month running video streaming which eats a constant 60% CPU leaving the remaining 40% to the webserver. This is without a doubt cpu limiting the server causing slow downs on every other page. As I'm moving towards creating...

    What's an upgrade for my C2D E8400 @ 4.0 GHz?

True. if you're just gaming the e8400 is still plenty for most games and you won't see much of a difference unless its a newer higher threaded title. But if you're video encoding the performance Increase will be huge going to an i7 build. Lastly if you're only interested in gaming but still want...

    What's an upgrade for my C2D E8400 @ 4.0 GHz?

Right now, pretty much the i5 760, i7 870 and i7 950 where the main deciding factors are the need for hyper-threading in i7 chips and pci-e bandwidth from the lga 1366 for sli or a crossfire set up. I'm in the same boat and might just go ahead and wait 4 more months for sandy bridge.

    Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5400

Those cheap PSU's run hot and tend to have short lives but it definitely has plenty of juice. See for yourself, don't be afraid to push your clocks just make sure to monitor temps and test for stability with prime95.

    I7 870 = i7 950 in games???

Hell even the i5 760 = i7 950 in 99% of games obviously you don't get hyperthreading there but in games (and most apps) it doesn't matter.
  31. S

    i5 750 @ 100% usage

Are you sure you're not just looking at "system idle process"? Because this SHOULD be 100% at idle
  32. S

I7-875K or i7-930 , which one is the best choice for extreme gaming?

Seconded. Also if you don't need hyperthreading (which 99% of games won't utilize) look at the i5-760
  33. S

    870 or 950

At newegg it costs $40 more over the i7 870 and at microcenter its $70 more. The real factor is if you plan to run an sli/crossfire setup in the future. If not go lga 1156.
  34. S

    870 or 950

Get the i7 870 you won't see any differences other then price, it will kick just as much butt in gaming performance and all at the much lower tdp of 95w. Plus with the higher turbo clocks this thing will be much more satisfying out of the box. Also if you have a microcenter anywhere near you...

LGA 1156 Build, coming from LGA 775

LGA 1156 Build, coming from LGA 775

Quite right, the i5 760 is down only by 1 in multiplier from x22. Now I'm trying to figure out if hyperthreading is worth it.. Probably not considering it should only be helpful in applications that can use more then 4 threads right?

I do some gaming, video encoding/editing, and lots of multitasking between heavy production and light dare I say...

No dice. I tried this and tried to reduce clocks to no avail. I don't understand, can two ram sticks simply be dead with no use? I'm going to try 2.2v and see what happens if that doesn't work then I'll just call patriot tomorrow.
