Thanks mfenn. The yellow film isn't sticky. Do I secure it by simply taping it down over the yellow film?
And what's the best way to measure the cpu temp? I've read different ways to install the probe to the cpu from placing it on the cpu in between the heat sink (doesn't sound like a good...
I have a couple questions...
First, I have a NZXT Hades case that comes with 3 thermal probes. I removed the plastic protector tube that the probes came enclosed in, but what is this yellow film over the metal probe?
Do I need to remove this film?
I still appreciate everyone's advice. I stated in the first post that I already had the processor and still went with the suggestions on the other parts.
Ok. I just ordered the rest of the stuff. Does my list sound ok?
1. Gigabyte X58A-UDR3
2. i7-930
3. Galaxy GTX 470
4. G.Skill 6GB
5. CORSAIR CMPSU 650W
I did originally say slightly, but I already got the itch so I'm going to push it to 4ghz. :)
Thanks for the info about the PSU. Guess the 650w should do it.
Ok. I ordered the 650w Corsair psu for $90. Now the have the 750w version for $80 after rebate.

For basically the same cost, should I return the 650w one for the 750w in the link above?
What are the disadvantages of running a higher...
jchu14, yes the $220 is also from microcenter. I guess then the 4 vs 6gb ram cost is moot because I can run 4 on the 1366. Good point about efficiency. Anyone know how efficiency compares when both chips are OC to 4ish?
Thanks for the coupon code for the gigabyte mobo.
sp12, would turbo...
Sorry to back track, but reading the other thread about the i7-930 vs i7-860 is making feel like I may not have made the best decision on the cpu. I just bought it, so I still have 28 days to return it if another would make more sense.
Is one more capable of a higher OC?
Running the...
Thanks for the suggestions! That gave me a lot to read up about.
Which config below is better? Config 2 below is just a few $ more. Since the memory and psu is about the same, which one between the two is better?
Config 1
ASRock X58 Extreme 3 $190
CORSAIR XMS3 6GB $145
Cooler Master...
Hmm... what will it take to make the rest of the system comparable to the parts I already bought? I'm open to suggestions and can save more if needed.
So for now, I really just need the mobo, psu, and memory. I'll upgrade the hdd and monitor down the road.
Thanks
1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Mix between gaming and photo/video editing.
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
Around $800
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR...
Some credit cards provide a free warranty for purchases such as electronics when using their cc. Has anyone ever tried making a claim with the cc company and how was your experience?
Buying a used car... say for example, would you buy a used Acura from a non-Acura dealership? Or a used Lexus from a Cadillac dealer?
For some reason, I feel like those type of cars had issue causing the owner to switch to a different brand.
So what do I need to do to get sound from my laptop to come out of the TV's speakers? I remember someone telling me about using a 3.5mm audio jack to RCA cable converter.
Is that correct? Is it 3.5mm or 2.5mm??? (the standard headphone jack)
Thanks
But did someone spill anything on it? I had the power problem on my laptop and bestbuy sent it somewhere and got it covered free under warranty. They even gave me a new replacement battery since I was almost out of warranty and I never had it replaced.
This is the way I do it, except before going to the dealership to talk pricing... send tons of emails to see which dealer is even worth visiting. I'd start with the two dealers that offer the lowest OTD quote via email. Print that email out and bring it with you.
I've had a dealer tell me...
Nothing special with this setup. My parents like to watch streaming international tv and for xmas, I put a graphic card w/ S video out for them to watch on their tv. Now I'm just trying to get sound from the tv.
Thanks everyone.
Gotcha. So I can run a line from the speaker out from the computer to the tv's audio system line-in. I dont think the tv has a line in, but i'm pretty sure the system (receiver) connected to it does...
Does anyone know how long the audio line can be??? The tv is about 30 ft away (along the...
I'm using a S Video cable to transfer the picture from my computer to a tv, but the audio only works on the pc's speakers. How do I get the sound to work from the tv???
Thanks.

You can find much cheaper single analog gauges.

On a laptop, there's a button to toggle between the laptop's lcd or a project. I'm looking to buy a vid card for a desktop. How would I toggle between the S Video out and the VGA out?
Thanks
What's considered "over correcting"? I'll assume that it depends on your prescription. I'm about a -1.5 to -2.0, if correcting my prescription to 20/20, would that be considered over correcting?
8yrs? Wow, guess you were one of the earlier adopters. Do you get dry eyes and/or see higher order aberrations? Still seeing 20/20?
Also, do you have to concientiously avoid rubbing your eyes?
I'm 26. I don't know about "guaranteed," but I understand presbyopia occurs in most people around 40 or so. I thought regardless of lasik, everyone will get a form of presbyopia (some worse than others) and when it begins, you will need reading glasses.
