3 displays on Eyefinity, but only 2 active at a time. Do I need an adapater?

Sadly not; my current setup consists of "pull out one and plug in the other" when ever I want to switch displays... I'm looking forward to not having to do that anymore! Well, it's good to know I have more options now. Thanks!

3 displays on Eyefinity, but only 2 active at a time. Do I need an adapater?

This is news to me. Are you sure about this? I thought without eyefinity, the OS wouldn't recognize three monitors at once? Even if they're not active, I still need all three displays to show up as connected in my display properties...

3 displays on Eyefinity, but only 2 active at a time. Do I need an adapater?

Greetings all, Here's my setup: I have two DVI monitors on my desk, and an HDTV in the adjacent room. I want all three displays powered by the same video card, so I'm looking into an Eyefinity card. I know the Eyefinity cards can only power 2 non-DisplayPort displays, so I'll need an active...

Stock AMD 7850 BE running at 58C while idle!

Alright, windows installed. Coretemp said 50 degrees, CPU Idle. I fired up Prime95 and hit the max-heat option; the temp climbed to 64. This is underclocked to 200 x 8 (stock is 200 x 14), with an open case in an air-conditioned room. Okay, it's a stock cooler, but 64 degrees under full load...

Stock AMD 7850 BE running at 58C while idle!

Okay, just tried remounting. I was using a tube of *really* old Arctic Silver, so I tried some newer Ceramiq instead. That seems to have lowered the temp a bit; it gets as high as 56 now in the BIOS. My vcore is around 1.3V; the motherboard doesn't give me the option of undervolting though...

Stock AMD 7850 BE running at 58C while idle!

If it were a matter of remounting, I would think the heatsink wouldn't be getting so hot. But I guess I'll try it anyway... If I remount and and it's still crazy hot, what's the diagnosis? Defective CPU?

Stock AMD 7850 BE running at 58C while idle!

Greetings all. I just finished putting together a new PC. CPU is an AMD Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition, motherboard is an ASUS M3A78-EM. When I powered on for the first time and went to the BIOS, I discovered to my horror that the hardware monitor was reporting a CPU temp of 53C already. After...

Check SMART status of RAID drives?

I'm using the Asus Formula Maximus, and I have two drives in RAID 0. This seems like a question a billion people must have asked, but how do you check the SMART status these drives?

    Watercooling the 9600GT

Hello all, among the many things I'm buying in the coming weeks, I'm upgrading my graphics card to a 9600GT. I have a watercooling setup I'd like to continue using, but I don't know what I need, especially when it comes to ramsinks. I'm doing this more for silence than for performance, so...

Minimize RAID5 failure odds by buying from different stores?

Greetings all. I've another question about the fileserver I'm building. I'm going to be running this thing in RAID5. I've heard many people say that buying 4 drives at once can be dangerous, seeing as if one of the drives fails, the others may be right behind it since all 4 would be part of...

Looking for more file server advice

Thanks for the replies guys. Tynopik: I'm planning on using RAID 5. I know RAID 6 is more redundant, but the idea of losing *two* drives doesn't sit too well with me. Maybe once I max out all eight, I'll switch to RAID 6. As far as the OS goes, I'm very much undecided. I've heard great...

Looking for more file server advice

Hello again all. I posted about this a month ago, but now that the time is near, I'd like a little more advice. I'm looking to build a file server. I've already secured myself a lovely Areca ARC-1220 RAID card, but as far as everything else goes, I'm still researching what I want. I plan on...

Looking for advice for a fileserver on the cheap

Ah, so I want one that's on the PCI Express bus, not the regular PCI bus. Got it. The most heavy user will be me; I plan on using it primarily for video and audio files, but also text/data files and graphics to a lesser extent. There are also three other computers in my home used by...

Looking for advice for a fileserver on the cheap

Okay, here's a quick shopping list I put together, sans case which I'm still looking around for: GIGABYTE GA-MA69VM-S2 Micro ATX Motherboard AMD Sempron LE-1150 2.0GHz CPU Corsair DDR2 675 1GB Memory Corsair 450w PSU Anything look too extravagant? Is 450w for the PSU too much? Too...

Looking for advice for a fileserver on the cheap

Well, if I have to spend more, I have to spend more. I still need some information though, specifically: 1) Do I want Intel or AMD? I know AMD's probably cheaper but does Intel have an outperforming Celeron chip in my price range? Furthermore, does CPU power even *matter* for a fileserver...

Looking for advice for a fileserver on the cheap

I'm actually running a ARC-1210 (the 4 port version) in my rig right now. I have a ARC-1220 in a box on my shelf waiting to be used. I'm planning on selling the 4 port one once I get the server set up. Those SATA enclosures *do* look pretty hot... but yeah they're somewhat pricey. It seems...

Looking for advice for a fileserver on the cheap

Greetings all. I'm looking to build a fileserver. Currently, my plan is to wait until early March to actually start buying stuff, and get it set up over spring break. But I'd like to do some preliminary research. My goal is to spend less than $200 on the non-harddrive parts. Firstly, I've...

Is a separate card really worth it for RAID5?

Thanks for the replies all. Perhaps I should clarify: I certainly don't intent to max out the controller with hard drives right off the bat; I just want to the option of expansion in the future. Which makes me somewhat concerned about Chocobo's post... Mobo RAID doesn't do capacity...

Is a separate card really worth it for RAID5?

Greetings all. I'm planning on putting together a file server for my five-computers-and-counting household. Having suffered the agony of hard drive failure once, I tend to be somewhat paranoid when it comes to data security, so I would like the server's hard drives to be in RAID 5. Now, I...

Will watercooling interfere with newer motherboard's heatsinks?

Greetings all. I'm planning on upgrading around March of next year when I have the cash and can get that sexy, sexy Q9450. I'm looking at all these newer motherboards, and I see a lot of them have the heatsinks carefully positioned around the CPU, expecting the air from the CPU's fan...

What's the cheapest way to capture Component video on my computer?

I've got plenty of storage space to store those insanely large HuffYUV files, and I know how to encode media. Are you telling me there's *no* sub-$100 way of plugging component cables into a computer? I was under the impression it was an analog signal. How is that even possible?

What's the cheapest way to capture Component video on my computer?

Greetings all, and apologies if this is the wrong category for this question. I'm looking for the cheapest method of getting Component video (red/green/blue jacks) to my computer so it can be recorded. I'm browsing around looking for video capture cards, but they all seem so expensive and...

Looking for a good Java tutorial site for C++ coders

Greetings all. Next month college starts up for me again and one of my courses requires a basic knowledge of Java. Unfortunately I've never coded in Java in my life. (Yes, I'm a horrible procrastinator.) However, I've been coding in C++ for years. Now, not to brag, but I like to think of...

    Panning and zoom detection algorithm

I thought about having the user define a reference point at the start and end of the clip, but that would only work for smooth, linear pans. One of the main applications I'd like the program to be able to handle is a scene where the camera shakes or vibrates in random directions (as often...

    Panning and zoom detection algorithm

Greetings. There's a programming problem that I've been puzzling over for some time now, and I'm hoping to get some advice. Here's what I'm trying to do. Many times in video files, especially in anime, the camera zooms or pans along a still image. What I need to accomplish is to write a...

TV capture card for playing a PS2 on?

Greetings all. I have a friend who has a PS2, but no TV to play it on. He has a computer though, so I recommended using the monitor for the PS2. But VGA adapters are so expensive. So then a thought occurred to me: would a TV capture card be cheaper? Is there such a card that takes composite...

Looking for the best wired gigabit 8-port router

it's a Linksys BEFSX41. I was kind of hoping to sell it after getting the switch to offset the cost, but I definitely don't want to sacrifice the firewall. Regardless, if I hook the router up to the switch, would I be able to use the other three router ports in addition to the switch ports...

Greetings all. It seems like everyone in my house has their own computer now, and our current 4-port router isn't cutting it anymore. I'd like to upgrade to an 8-port, and since I plan on building a file server eventually, I'd like it to be gigabit. We already have cat5 cable running...

Plain old resistors an alternative to fan controllers?
