The file you want to look at to change the timeout and defaults is
/etc/default/grub https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Configuring%20GRUB%202
Either gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub [basic gui text editor]
or
sudo nano /etc/default/grub [easy terminal editor]
to make basic default...

First of all there is a difference with versions of GRUB you probably have GRUB 2 rather than GRUB [legacy].

Check your specs for the original PSU [it is likely to be underpowered for upgrading] & evaluate if you are going to over-clock the CPU and...
I would upgrade to a 650W power supply, because several Nvidia GTX 260 cards require 500W and up. & check out your specs & connections [some require 2 6-pin Molex] for your video card.
I prefer the method [AS5 single-dot ] and for me the 'tinning' is key

I reapplied some non-conductive paste and got a better lockdown by a adding 4mm nylon washer to the push-pins for a tighter...
