I am looking to replace my old setup of WHS v1 with 3x2TB WD Green drives. Along with this I used older SageTV extenders.
I am evaluating my options for the holiday sales and trying to decide the pros/cons of building 2 separate boxes, one with unraid just for storage and another to act as...
I setup a new rig last weekend and am checking on my temps and they seem to be a bit high.
Ambient is 79F/26C and these are reference coolers.
At idle the gpu fans are running at 38% and 60C. This seems extraordinarily high. While running BF4 on ultra the fans kick up to about 55% and...
I was trying to finish up my new build with the parts listed in the title:
ASUS ROG Hero motherboard
HAF X Case
SLI'd GTX 780Ti
I cannot seem to get the VGA duct that sits behind the hard drive cage to fit with this configuration. The middle plastic bar on the duct sits directly over the...
Parts:
Cooler Master HAF X Case
ASUS Maximus VI Hero
I am wondering what the suggested way to hookup the fans for this case would be.
The HAF X has 6 fans:
Front: 230mm
Top: 200mm x 2
Side: 200mm
Rear: 140mm
VGA card fan duct: 120mm
Only the VGA duct has a pwm fan.
The Hero...
Parts:
H100i
4 x Cougar Vortex CF-V12HP PWM fans
ASUS Maximus VI Hero motherboard
I am looking to run the H100i in a push/pull configuration. I do not plan on using Corsair Link and do plan on using FanXpert 2 that is part of the AI Suite that comes with the Hero.
The Hero only supports a max...
I should be putting my new rig together next week. I would like to test my components before I start working on the OC for it.
What tools are recommended for testing my ssd, physical hdd, and ram.
Been looking for a 1k power supply but Newegg has been continually out of the HX1050. I also can not see to find any direct comparison reviews between the two. I have run Corsair PSUs in the past and they have performed very well.
Does anyone know of any direct comparisons between the two...
I plan on doing a build with an ASUS ROG Hero and a 4770K CPU. I would like to use a 2133 speed kit but what I don't know is if it matters if I get in a 2x8 or 4x4 configuration.

1. Build for mostly gaming and some development.
2. Budget in the $2500 range
3. Buying in the USA
5. Intel for the processor, can go either AMD or nVidia for graphics, they both have their pros/cons
6. Not reusing any parts but currently have the HX850 and HAF-X purchased
7. Looking for minor...

I have been putting some parts together over the past few months prepping for a new build come black Friday. I had purchased a Corsair HX850 assuming it would be enough power to drive 2 cards in either xfire or SLI, depending on...

I am going to be putting a rig together this Nov/Dec and am wondering what peoples thoughts are on SLI 760s vs 780s for running at 2560x1600.
The most intensive game I will be playing in the near future is BF4.
Considerations:
I can pick up 2 760s for less than the price of one 780.
New...
Looking for a laptop for my sister in the 500-600$ range. I mostly build full pcs so haven't been in the notebook market in a while.
It would need an optical drive, probably an i5 as I think an i7 would be overkill. She would prefer a touch screen but in that price range I don't know if it...
I have an older Samsung HL-S7178WX/XAA that is pretty much unusable since my lamp is almost dead. It had a good run, racking up 14795 hours in 7 years. Since I am going to be replacing the bulb I figured I should get some maintenance done on it at the same time. I can easily replace the lamp...
Chip in question:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-A8-Series%20A8-6600K%20-%20AD660KWOA44HL.html
I recently came into a free A8-6600K and wanted to put it to good use. It is 100W TDP which seems to be above the norm for a media center pc.
I'm not really concerned about its...
I'm still running an older Core 2 Duo E8400 3ghz with 2 8800GTS 512's. I am running a 30" monitor with most games at 2560x1600. Do you think if I upgraded to these in SLI I would see significant gains or would I be processor limited by switching to these?
Well I'm looking at putting together a new rig. Looking for comments or suggestions on this build. Pretty much only used for gaming, would like good 2560x1600 performance.

Mushkin Enhanced Redline 4GB (2 x 2GB)
I have been getting some unacceptable framerates in some newer games and wondering if OC'ing the GTS's and possible the cpu would...
Well I finally got my rig built.
I flashed my bios to p05 and set loaded defaults. The only change I made was to set my dvd as the first boot device and to set my memory timings to 5-5-5-12 (auto set them to 5-5-5-18).
I did a single pass of memtest86+ just to make sure my ram was good...
The AS website says to apply a long thin line down the heat spreader:
http://www.arcticsilver.com/pd...s5_intel_dual_wcap.pdf
But the instructions for the TRUE says to "apply a thin layer of thermal paste to the top of CPU and bottom of heatsink base"...
Buying an evga 132-CK-NF78-A1 and looking for 2 x 2gb sticks, probably ddr2 1000.
Anyone have experience running this config and suggest a brand and model that works well. I was looking at these Mushkin redlines:

They are not listed...
Putting together a machine to last me through the year and here is what I have so far. Let me know what you think or what to change.
I could also use some info on a psu.

I am using a Gigabyte GA-8KNXP Rev 1 board. The problem I am having is I am trying to install a Samsung SH-S203N DVD Burner on the sata connections and I cannot get the machine to find it.
It is connected on the Sil3112 connector which I tried both port 0 and 1. I have all the bios setting...
