University of Florida Eliminates Computer Science Department

Athletic departments make crazy money. CS....not so much. You would be shocked to see how much the major football and basketball programs make.

    HTPC Build Critique

Thank you for the feedback. The WD Black drives are a little pricey right now. Are there any drives that would offer better performance at a lower price point?

    HTPC Build Critique

Good evening. I've built a few dozen computers over the years, but it's been about 5 years since I built my last desktop, so I've fallen out of familiarity with modern hardware. I'm looking to build an ultra-budget (~$500) HTPC that includes a Ceton PCI-E card. I'll be waiting for the Ceton to...

Which $400 laptop should I buy? Opinions Please :)

I'm a huge fan of the HP Probook series. Both myself and my sister purchased them over the last 15 months or so, and they're a great bargain in the $375-425 range. The build quality is significantly better when compared to HP's consumer level products, which is a definite plus when talking about...

    Post your awesome dumpster finds

I got one of these ( http://reviews.cnet.com/Sony_KDS_R60XBR1/4505-6484_7-31481141.html) from craigslist a month or so ago. $200 for an optical block rebuild, and it was all set to go. The Guy had bought it for $4500 in 2006, and didn't feel like dealing with the hassle of fixing it.

Degree for job in IT security

I currently work as an IT Security Engineer, having graduated in 2008 with a degree in Computer Information Systems. I agree with the above advice that you should heavily review the curriculum before entering one of those programs, as I did a large amount of recruiting for my company in the past...

    Rugged Maniac 5k

I ran a similar event in NY last summer, and my buddy ran the Rugged Maniac 5k in MA last year as well. Running 3.1 miles on a flat road or a treadmill is certainly not a valid comparison for these events, as they're not so much about sustained speed, but instead are centered around burst speed...

who's buying pre-made Thanksgiving dinner this year?

The last few years my family has gone to a mid-high end restaurant in our area for their Thanksgiving buffet. It costs around $40 per person, but the food is excellent, and it saves my mother the stress of cooking all that food for only four people.

How much can a suit be altered?

I just tried them on again for the first time in a couple of months, and I'm thinking they're just too big. I could fit almost two of me in the jacket, so I'm guessing the pinstripes/pockets just wouldn't look right when heavily altered.

How much can a suit be altered?

Good news: I've lost 65 pounds over the last 8 months. Bad news: I now have two Brooks Brothers suits, that don't fit any longer. The jackets on both are size 48, and the pants are 40" waist. I'm probably around a 44" chest now, and 36 inch pants. Can these be altered still? I only wear...

There is one near my parents' house on Cape Cod. We used to go there quite a bit when I was young, and am hoping to get there when I visit in a couple of weeks. My girlfriend has never been to one, so it should be a good time.

Homeowner finally wins: HOA Spends $300,000 In Legal Fees Over A Pick-Up Truck

Similar thread from another forum regarding a pickup truck and an HOA: http://www.f150online.com/forums/northeast/418802-parking-new-jersey-condo.html Pretty funny scenario. Since the HOA stated he couldn't park his new $45k+ truck in the parking lot, he bought an $800 Ford Bronco SUV to park...

Mountain Bikers - Is this a good deal?

I ended up buying it today for $375. Not the $300 I was hoping for, but a solid deal overall, considering he threw in a new specialized helmet (I needed a new one anyway) in addition to the shoes and the bike. I took it out for a quick 8 miles tonight, and man is it great! It is so smooth...

Mountain Bikers - Is this a good deal?

Yeah, I ended up not getting it. At $400 it just didn't seem like enough of an upgrade from what I ride now. I'll email him in a week or so before he moves to San Fran, and see if he still has it available, and wants to drop it in price a bit. The tires were mostly flat when I got there, so...

Mountain Bikers - Is this a good deal?

Are Alivio all that bad? Back when I was last into mountain biking (~8 years ago), I ran Deore LX, but can I get by reliably for a while? I currently ride on a 2008 Fisher Tarpon with Altus components, and it's terrible.

Mountain Bikers - Is this a good deal?

I may try that. He's moving to California, so he may be desperate. I had originally been looking at the specs for the Pro Disc, so now seeing that it is simply the 'Disc' model, I am less enthused about the drivetrain, and may be hesitant at the $450 price point.

Mountain Bikers - Is this a good deal?

I've been talking to a guy on Craigslist regarding his 2008 Specialized Rockhopper Disc, including clipless pedals and shoes. He's looking for $550, but I negotiated him down to $450 including the shoes, which just happen to be in my size. The bike has barely seen any use, and almost none in...

What make and model is the car? You may be able to program a replacement key yourself. I know this is possible on Ford and Jeep vehicles, as long as you already have two factory keys to use during the programming.

    Job at EB

Retail jobs in my experience rarely turn out as you think they will. Some weeks you don't get the hours you hoped for, or you get stuck with a series of Saturday night closing shifts, or you have to deal with terrible management. It's been five years since I worked retail, and perhaps things...

Would you spend a year in solitary confinement for 50,000 dollars?

I make more than that through work, and enjoy a life far superior to what I would have in solitary confinement. I can't see how this would ever be worth it for $50,000.
