Upgrade to 980, or add a third 480?

Two 480s is already excessive for a single monitor, even a 30 incher. I would only consider getting three 480s if you have an nvidia surround setup - considering the ancedotal evidence I have heard about poor scaling on the third card in 2d surround, I would only get three if you ran 3d...

Free copy of Mafia 2 for EVGA GTX465/470/480 customers.

Got my codes and evga has me willing to pay a premium for their products in the future.

Free copy of Mafia 2 for EVGA GTX465/470/480 customers.

Just requested two codes for my GTX 480s. Props to EVGA, they are a cut above.

ATI Preps New Dual-Chip Flagship Graphics Card - Rumours.

Of course it is. However, as consumers, we should be more concerned with the quality of the product as opposed to the popularity of the brand.

SLI & CFX PCIe Bandwidth Perf. - x16/x16 vs. x16/x8

You linked a PSU, not a hardocp article. Article is here: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/08/23/gtx_480_sli_pcie_bandwidth_perf_x16x16_vs_x8x8

Current 120Hz monitors are 'locked out' from doing 3D on ATI hardware

Exactly. I love open standards, but AMD seems to have the misconception that "supporting" open standards consists of not making their own standard AND not furthering the development of the open standard they "support". I'll take a polished closed standard over an inferior open standard any day...

ATI Preps New Dual-Chip Flagship Graphics Card - Rumours.

Well said Grooveriding. Nvidia really does need to get their act together, else soon enough their only GPU sales will be to 3d and multi-monitor gamers. Nvidia's only selling point atm are the aforementioned features and SLI scaling, allowing great performance/price with 460 sli and great...

So what would be your idea of an advanced monitor today?

120hz IPS edge-to-edge glass with a resolution of 1080p or greater. By the time such a monitor is released (which would have to been when 120hz becomes mainstream, as I cannot see any of the traditional gaming-focused companies marketing such a monitor), top end graphic card horsepower needs to...

    I-Inc 28 Inch Thoughts

You probably bought already to get the cashback. In case you didn't, I'd recommend the Asus vw266h. You lose 2.5", but honestly, 28" seems way too big for a TN. I currently use my vw266h alongside a NEC 20WMGX2. The NEC is a fantastic, high end panel and I can certainly tell the difference...

10.7a Beta Catalyst released - SC2 Forced AA and Quadfire+Eyefinity Improvements

HD 5870 1GB and i7 920 running at 3.6. Played a few games with and without 4x Box Adaptive Multisampling AA. Without AA, all settings on max, reduce mouse lag not checked is 100+. Reduce mouse lag drops you to about 60-80. With 4x AA and reduce mouse lag not checked, fps drops to a very playable...

10.7a Beta Catalyst released - SC2 Forced AA and Quadfire+Eyefinity Improvements

I'll let you know in a bit, SC2 is at 96% installed and the drivers are downloading. And to think if Gamestop hadn't screwed up my preorder I would have had to play SC2 with no AA for what, two days now?

10.7a Beta Catalyst released - SC2 Forced AA and Quadfire+Eyefinity Improvements

Drivers are here: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/ATICat107aBetaDriver.aspx. I am very curious about the promised performance increases in quadfire eyefinity. It doesn't seem like they will carry over into normal crossfire eyefinity, which is a shame. In any case, if you're running...

    Thinking about a gpu upgrade

Sounds like you don't really need a card right now, I'd wait until the end of the year when Southern Islands and possibly more nvidia cards hit.

Would it be a waste to sell my 5850?

Personally, I wouldn't do it. The difference just is not there between the 470 and the 5850 and the 480 and the 5870 unless you're running 3 monitors and sli. Crossfire can struggle to keep up with sli on just one monitor, but crossfire + eyefinity falls short. In fact, with only one monitor...

Replace HD 5870 with GTX 480 SLI for Eyefinity?

I jumped on two evga gtx 480s from tigerdirect. Got them for 400 each after cashback and rebates. I'll be sure to post my thoughts when the monitors and cards arrive. On a completely unrelated note, if anyone is interested in a sapphire 5870 that has never been OCed...

Replace HD 5870 with GTX 480 SLI for Eyefinity?

Interestingly, the 2GB 5870 was tested in the hardocp article as well. It was slightly better than the 1GB 5870, but still not nearly as good as Fermi. Must be more than just VRAM, although I would imagine the 1 GB 5870 seeing some problems with newer games at extreme resolutions.

Replace HD 5870 with GTX 480 SLI for Eyefinity?

Hello all! Looking forward to hearing your opinions. I currently run a HD5870, and am quite happy with the card for single monitor gaming at 1920x1200. I can max almost everything in almost every game. However, I have two more monitors on the way and have had the opportunity to test how my...
