Looking for ideas to cool a new I7-6700K build

Hi all-- Thanks to everyone for all of the great information you have shared with me on this build thus far. I kicked the different options around for the last few days, and decided on the NZXT Kraken X62. I picked it up today and look to get the build started soon. The last item I am still...

Looking for ideas to cool a new I7-6700K build

Was looking around to try and find a Predator 240 and could not find one anywhere. Ended up going to the EKWB site and then to their forums, and it turns out the Predator line of AIO products, both the 240 and 360 have been discontinued sometime ago due to continued leak issues and other...

Looking for ideas to cool a new I7-6700K build

Have you tried the Kraken X62 yet? The limited reviews seem favorable as far as the cooling performance goes, but the monitoring software gets bashed pretty hard and often. It's also more expensive than similar spec'd units, which is ok if the performance and quality/reliability of the unit is...

Looking for ideas to cool a new I7-6700K build

BonzaiDuck-- Thanks for all the great info, much appreciated. I did a quick look for both the Macho and the Predator, and could not find either of them to purchase. What do you think about the Noctua NH-D15S in relation to the Macho? Would you expect similar results from them? Again, the main...

Looking for ideas to cool a new I7-6700K build

I picked the 6700K up at Microcenter a few months ago for less that $250. If I didn't already have it, yes, the 7700K would be the one.

Looking for ideas to cool a new I7-6700K build

BonzaiDuck--Your setup sounds cool, but isn't the fact that you got the relidded/binned cpu the key to your using the Macho? Without that ~12C "savings", I assume the Macho would not still be your primary cooling choice? I'm not sure about sending my new cpu out for relidding treatment, so...

Looking for ideas to cool a new I7-6700K build

Are the target overclocks that I mentioned within the abilities of the air coolers you suggested? Any specific models to go with the company names you listed? I see in your sig that your system is very similar to what I'm putting together. Is your 6700K overclocked, and if so, what speeds are...

Looking for ideas to cool a new I7-6700K build

Mainly because of the size and weight of the air coolers. Also, the Phanteks case has a lot of options for watercooling and was a factor in my choosing it. Is there a specific air cooler that you had in mind to suggest?

    Need ideas for I7-6700K overclock

I am putting a new system together based on the 6700K with an Asus Maximus VIII Hero Alpha mobo in a Phanteks Enthoo Evolv case. I am looking to get a 4.2-4.5 overclock out of it with reasonable temps. I would like to go with an AIO watercooling setup that is well-engineered and isn't too loud...

Question about my first foray into watercooling

I set up an RMA with Swiftech. After I removed the H220, I decided to try and install the stock Intel heatsink/fan. When I did, the Cpu Fan Error message went away and the idle temps were 30-33c, which is where they should be, not the 60-65c that I was getting with the H220 installed. It looks...

Question about my first foray into watercooling

Yes, it's the H220 which comes prefilled. When it's plugged in there is no sound or vibrations from the pump or lines.

Question about my first foray into watercooling

Yes, I plugged other fans into the header and it works, so I know it isn't the motherboard. The adapter is a sata power connector with a 4pin pwm fan header at the other end? If I hooked that up and it worked, could I leave that as the permanent connection, or is it just for testing purposes?

Question about my first foray into watercooling

There are no other connections with the H220. It is just a single wire coming out of the cpu block/pump that has a 4pin PWM fan header that is supposed to be plugged into the the cpu_fan header on the motherboard. Why do you doubt the pump being dead? What do you mean about that i wouldn't have...

Question about my first foray into watercooling

aigomorla-- As per the Swiftech instructions, I plugged the 4pin pwm fan molex that comes out of the cpu block/pump into the cpu_fan header on the Asus P8Z77-V Pro. I have also tried in the other fan headers on the motherboard to no avail. Isn't this the standard setup for the AIO's as far as...

Question about my first foray into watercooling

I have tried plugging into the other fan headers, but got the same result. I installed Realtemp today to check if possibly the bios was reporting an incorrect temp, but Realtemp has it at 61-65c while at idle and stock speed. It looks as if I got a pump that was DOA on this H220.

Question about my first foray into watercooling

Got the H220 installed, but getting high idle temps on the 3570k according to the bios. It is showing a cpu temp of 52-55c and that is at idle. I have removed and remounted 3-4 times now and reapplied the Noctua NT-H1 each time, but get the same temps. The ambient temp is about 25c. I am also...

Avoid Swiftech: False Advertising/Failure Killed my Chip/Neglect Ensues

Yes, I left it idle in the bios for an hour and the temps stayed around 52-55c. There is no rpm reported from the main Cpu Fan header when the Swiftech is plugged into it, but I did plug a separate fan into the header to test, and the header itself works.

Avoid Swiftech: False Advertising/Failure Killed my Chip/Neglect Ensues

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I might be having the same issue. Got the H220 installed, but getting high idle temps on the 3570k according to the bios. It is showing a cpu temp of 52-55c and that is at idle. I have removed and remounted 3-4 times now and reapplied the Noctua NT-H1...

Question about my first foray into watercooling

Putting a new rig together and I will be using a Swiftech H220 AIO in an NZXT Phantom 530 case. The radiator on the H220 has the reservoir with a fill port on one end of the radiator. One side (the bottom?) of the rad is flat and level, while the other side has the reservoir and fill port which...

    Can't boot from new drive

    Can't boot from new drive

Yes, bios is set to boot from the HD. The drive is seen and listed in the bios. Is there a way to fix/rebuild the MBR or anything else associated with the boot process? It's weird that if it is a MBR or other such issue that the Win7 repair process doesn't find it.

    Can't boot from new drive

I just installed a new WD IDE drive to replace an older one that was failing. Before installing the new drive I used Drive Image XML to make an image of my Win7 Pro install. I saved the image to an external drive. I then installed the new drive (exact same make and model, under warranty) and...

What cooling is needed to overclock the G3258 to 4.5GHz?

Thinking about building a cheap rig around the Intel Pentium G3258 and I was wondering what type of cooling is required to reach the 4.5-4.7GHz levels being reported for this chip.

How do I swap out an IDE hard drive?

Turns out it was the Samsung CD/DVD burner. It would not properly read the Win 7 .iso disc that I created, with the same burner in question. I put in a $10 refurbed Sony and it read and loaded it without issue. Crazy.

How do I swap out an IDE hard drive?

Unfortunately, this old system and it's bios do not support booting from USB. I picked up a Sony refurbed DVD drive and will give that a try tomorrow.

How do I swap out an IDE hard drive?

For reference, the computer that I tried it on at home and that works, is very close in spec to the problem system. Not a modern system at all, basically the same. Also of note, there is a single IDE hard drive on IDE 1 as master, and the cd/dvd burner is on IDE 2 as master.

How do I swap out an IDE hard drive?

The system in question is an old P4 1.6GHz on an Asus P4B266. It has the I845D dhipset, so it's IDE only (pre-SATA). It has XP Home 32 bit on it, and I want to put Win7 32 bit on. I have made several disks with the Win 7 Pro 32 bit .iso from Digital River. I have tried these same discs (Verbatim...

How do I swap out an IDE hard drive?

I have an older desktop system that I want to upgrade from XP to Win7. I think the existing hard drive might be bad as I am unable to get Win7 to install. I would like to temporarily swap out for a different hard drive in order to see if Win7 will successfully install on the other drive. I want...

What to add to my Samsung 830 128GB

The 1TB SSD would be the ideal way to go, but it's not in the budget for this build, which is why the decision is between the 1TB mechanical and the Samsung EVO 250GB.

What to add to my Samsung 830 128GB

I am getting ready for a new build and my only storage at this point is a new Samsung 830 128GB SSD that I purchased about a year ago. I am trying to decide between a 1 TB mechanical, or a Samsung EVO 250GB? If I go with the 2nd SSD, what setup would be best? OS (Win7 Pro) on the 128 or 250...

    Which Sapphire is better?

Yes, 1080p. Edit:The AT bench you provided was for a 270x, not a 270. I think there is a clock speed difference between the 270 and 270x if I'm not mistaken? If so, the 265 and the 270 are probably pretty close in performance. Overclocking capabilities might make the difference here.

    Which Sapphire is better?

I am looking for an inexpensive video card for a new build. My budget is roughly $150. I am looking at the Sapphire R9 270 and the Sapphire R7 265. Both are around $160 at Amazon right now. Is the 270 much better than the 265? Are both good overclockers? I am looking to play a backlog of older...

Swap one AMD AGP card for another?

A family member has an older AGP based system. They have a 9700 Pro that is failing. I have an old but good X800 XTPE AGP in a box. Can I simply just swap out the 9700 for the X800 XT without uninstalling the drivers, as they both will need the same AGP drivers that are already installed on the...

    New to WiFi

My desktop is running Windows XP. Will that be a problem as far as setting this up?
