    ASUS PB278Q 27-Inch WQHD $554.10

It's also consistently $555 at B&H. Bought mine from them a couple weeks ago. Great monitor, I love how the matte anti-glare coating doesn't sparkle at all, yet it's still quite effective. OSD navigation sucks, but that's really not something that should influence a buying decision. My...

    7850 vs current nvidia offerings

I don't see a point in waiting for the GTX 660 (GK106). If the following leaked specs are to be believed, then it won't be much better than a GTX 560 Ti. 28 nm, around 210 mm² die-area, Kepler architecture Two Graphics Processing Clusters (GPCs), four Streaming Multiprocessors (SMXs) 768...

AMD confirms price cuts, 3 free games to be bundled with 79xx

You get better than GTX 560 Ti performance out of an HD 7850, so it doesn't need to be that cheap...That $210-230 range sounds just about right and they're already headed in that direction. The HD 7870 should definitely be in that $300-320 range. Considering there is one card of each type on...

IB is not 77W but 95W!!

He doesn't need to. It's not that uncommon. My 2600K does 4.8GHz w/HT and 5.0GHz w/o HT on 1.424V. The NH-D14 or any high-end tower cooler can handle that. That's through 24h of Prime95 Blend and also IBT w/AVX. My chip is slightly above average I guess...there are 2500Ks that do 5GHz...

    4GB GTX680 on the way

The practical limitations for OCing both the 680 and 7970 are probably the 28nm process itself and air/water-cooled temperatures. 12 power phases and 8+6 PEG is likely completely unnecessary unless you're on LN2, and then both cards have already been OC'd to 1800-1900MHz.

    People selling their 7970s?

It's moreso that mobile chips are eating into TSMC's production capacity. Guess who makes all those Tegra 3s for Nvidia? Guess what space (discrete graphics or mobile SoC) Nvidia cares about more moving forward?

Gtx 680. Are you buying one? Why or why not?

The scary thing, Magic Carpet, is the 256-bit memory bus rears its ugly head even before we get to 2560x1440 or 2560x1600. Linus's benchmarks were done at 1920x1080 and a 1125MHz/1575MHz HD 7970 was already keeping pace with a 1250MHz/1500MHz GTX 680. That problem only grows with additional...

Again, you are presuming that this was supposed to be a $350 card...based on what, S|A, OBR, Fudzilla? Sites that make up rumors for ad revenue? I also don't get what you're trying to say about per core performance. It's not magic...you can't just conjure up performance out of nowhere...

    GTX680 reall a 660Ti?

My point about die size is that unlike a strict derivation of GF114, they doubled the number of equivalent functional units. The result was a fairly notable increase in die size... It could have been more, but Nvidia finally managed a supremely high transistor count per area, just ever so...

    GTX680 reall a 660Ti?

I never did I say the GK104 was based on GF110. From the looks of it, you are so mad you didn't take the time to read what I said. I mentioned that it takes 2x as many shaders in Kepler to perform the same task as Fermi. Because GF114 only has 384 shaders, 1536 is in fact 4x the number of...

    GTX680 reall a 660Ti?

Well you're arguing hypotheticals, which is pointless. At one point it was labeled a GTX 670 Ti, but from what we can tell it was never internally known as a GTX 660 [Ti]. What will Nvidia call BigK? Who knows... probably the GTX 780, but I'm secretly hoping both the Radeon and GeForce...

    GTX680 reall a 660Ti?

You guys are arguing in circles. It's semantics. The GTX 680 is a GTX 680. It's the fastest single GPU Nvidia offers and it beats a stock HD 7970. It's also priced at $500. "BigK" has not made an appearance and likely will not for another half year. So you can argue if it looks like a duck...

    GPU boost - gimmick?

Min FPS when either the core is dealing with entirely too many polys or the framebuffer is the bottleneck. In the first case, GPU boost is unlikely since the shaders should be working very hard. In the second case, no amount of extra clock speed will really help. This ends up being a case...

    GTX680 reall a 660Ti?

This I suspect is going to be largely the case after both cards are OC'd to their fullest potential. In the LinusTechTips video a 1125MHz/1575MHz 7970 was ever so slightly behind a 1250MHz/1500MHz GTX 680. Assuming both can attain similar max clocks on both core and memory, then I think the HD...

    GTX680 reall a 660Ti?

I think what happened is they decided to hump up the clocks of their GK104 parts considerably when they realized "BigK" would not be ready in time. They simply did not want AMD to have the performance crown for that long. It presents an interesting situation for Nvidia now. I imagine a GK104...

Gtx 680. Are you buying one? Why or why not?

As an HD 7970 owner, my first my reaction was panic when I saw the stock vs stock results. But after looking at the OC vs OC results on the LinusTechTips YouTube channel, I'm indifferent. 1125MHz HD 7970 vs 1250MHz GTX 680 via boost Linus did OC the HD 7970 memory to 1575MHz as well, which...

Newb question on Power cables.. for 7970

Basically any PSU that provides a cable with an 6+2pin and a 6pin PEG on one cable is saying, "Yes I can provide stable VA / wattages for an HD 7970." If it can't actually provide that, then they have no business cabling that way. If it's a single-rail PSU, using multiple cables really isn't...

[VR] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Specifications Revealed

From my sample of 1, I would say 25-35% as a broad estimate with some voltage tweaking. 1225 MHz @1.25V exhibits no tearing at all. The memory can be clcoked all the way up to 1850MHz @1.6V. My daily OC is 1125MHz core @1.112V, 1600MHz memory @1.5V.

Finally! Corsair 550d in stock at NE

The 550D is a better starting point for a quiet PC. The door, foam padding and closed off additional fan mounts go a long way. I was quite shocked by the difference in noise going from a P182 with 500 RPM fans to an FT02 with 500RPM fans. The open mesh design cases just leak sound like crazy.

GK104 / Tahiti die size comparison

[Xbit] Nvidia: GeForce "Kepler" Graphics Processors Will Be Unbeatable.

Going to assume performance will once again be limited by heat more than anything. Perhaps the HD 7990 and/or dual-GPU Kepler card reference designs will see triple-wide cooling solutions? Unlike 2x8-pin PEG connectors, that's actually within the PCIe specification.

TechPowerup - Nvidia Kepler GK104 PCB Drawings and power connector pics

NewEgg and TigerDirect are likely selling them at barely above the price they got from their distributor (or maybe direct from EVGA). In fact it's further indication of how colossal a failure the GTX 480 and the rest of the original GF100 cards were. Why? - It's 2012, and high traffic...

TechPowerup - Nvidia Kepler GK104 PCB Drawings and power connector pics

Why on earth would they design the PEG connectors that way. As already mentioned, it possibly inhibits single slot usage. In addition it's just a poor physical design...imagine the amount of force on the solder joints when numbskulls start forcible pushing down on and tugging up on their PEG.

My new 7950 is 'buzzing'/'humming' when rendering

Inductors == chokes == coils. Even ferrite chokes like the ones on your video card can hum or whine, but in general coil whine is a much bigger problem on those huge toroids you find in PSUs.

    C'mon XFX

That's no different from most PSU brands. Antec and Corsair don't make their own PSUs, though sometimes they give some input as to what components be used, modular connector design and such.

My new 7950 is 'buzzing'/'humming' when rendering

Coil whine has nothing to do with a PSU struggling to power a component. It has everything to do with patterned signals causing filtering coils to resonate. There are coils on both your video card and your PSU, but it's generally more likely for coil whine to be audible on the much large...

    [expreview] 7870/7850 to release first week of March. 1.5GB 7890 = $359

Based on the quoted price, I would expect the HD 7870 to perform worse. The HD 6970 is $350, the GTX 580 is $500 and the GTX 570 is $330. There's very little incentive for AMD to give us a price break here...the only reason to do so is if they know Kepler/GK104 is coming in at a competitive...
