Advice on new WHS + Indexer VM box

Been feeling the need to upgrade my trusty WHS v1 box for a little while now, as it's getting a bit long in the tooth. Also, I'm thinking of running my own newsgroup indexer running under a VM on the server. Current setup: AMD Athlon II X2 240 at 2.8Ghz Foxconn A74-MLK mobo 2 GB DDR2...

ATI HD7950 idle bug Windows 8

I have a MSI Twin HD7950 card. Was running fine under Windows 7. Decided to try Windows 8 this morning, and I now have the idle bug where the card won't downclock to 300/150. I've already tried uninstalling the drivers, and re-installing a clean version for Win 8 x64 from ATI's website...

Best OS upgrade path for WHS v1?

So my WHS v1 box is getting a bit long in the tooth. With Windows 8 and Server 2012 Essentials just around the corner, I'm curious what everybody's thoughts were on the logical upgrade OS path should be. WHS 2011 Windows 7 Windows 8 Windows Server 2012 Essentials Linux

    New HTPC/Emulation machine

I was toying around with the idea of building a small form-factor emulation machine and HTPC. By building it, I'm thinking I'll eliminate the PS3 (which I basically only use for blu-rays anymore), my WD Live streamer (which would be moved to the bedroom), and my current mid-tower emulation box...

How to deploy WSUS Offline updates on Win Server 2008?

I currently administer a group of computers here at work running Windows XP. There are around 45 machines, and none of them are set up to a domain...they are all administered locally (I know...it was set up prior to my arrival). I've finally talked mgt into upgrading to new clients (Windows 7...

    CM 212 vs. Corsair H70

I have all my parts ordered for my new Sandy build 2500k, and I have a CM 212 included with the shipment. I guess I underestimated how large the cooler is. A buddy of mine has a self-contained water system, so I started reading around regarding the H50 and H70. I saw many people say that...

    New SB build.

So I'm upgrading to a new 2500k build, and figured it would be a good time to replace my Corsair HX520 while I'm at it. I'd like to stay with Corsair since I've had very good luck with them. I can't seem to decide on either getting a 650w or 750w. Here is what I'll have: 2500k with around...

    Need Recommendations

So I've decided to upgrade from my E8400 to a new 2500k, and have been doing some research on upgrade components. I'll be getting a new mobo, 2500k, DDR3, and cooler. Just looking for comments and/or suggestions for alternatives. CPU: 2500k I'm set on this processor. MOBO: Either...

XP mode network drive shortcuts on Win7 desktop?

We're using Pathworks at work to map XP network drives to VMS machines. We have been mandated to upgrade the systems to Windows 7, which Pathworks does not run native on. I've installed XP mode, and can create mapped drives. I need to know if it is possible to create shortcuts to the XP mode...

How to migrate data from old WHS to new WHS

This is just a hypothetical question for now, as I just built a brand new WHS...but I got to thinking what happens to the TB's of data I'm moving over when I decide I want to upgrade the hardware? Can I just move the drives over the new box and re-install WHS? Just wondered if anyone has run...

    WHS question regarding Hard Drives

I'm putting together a home server primarily for client computer backups, streaming dvd/blu-ray rips to a WD LIVE box, and running a PlayOn server to the same WD box. I was thinking about putting WHS on the server, but I absolutely hate the idea of hard drive pooling. I want all of my...

Advice on build your own NAS.

I'm going to build a home NAS box mainly for system backups, and serving DVD/Blu-ray/mkv rips to my WD HD LIVE's attached to my home network. I'm going to be using an old micro-ATX case. I'm going to be using 2 2TB Samsung SATA drives for storage...
