    New Phone - Thoughts?

Hi all, Looking at the Sony Xperia Z5, HTC 10 etc currently. Making the jump from the iPhone 5S - I may get the 5SE as I'm not keen on the 6/6S design. I'm not interested in Samsung phones. I know that the Z5 has an outdated processor, but the design is laudable to me; the camera is rated...

Improvement in battery life for 15in rMBP?

I don't know what you're getting at, my battery life is perfectly within spec for my 2012 model, 8 hours usage and have even managed to get 13 hours out of it in the Library on a number of occasions. I suggest you check your background processes and whether you have the integrated or discrete...

Apple A9X the new mobile SoC king

That would still be a statistically useless test. Look at it this way, you're trying to find a correlation between battery life and SoC manufacturer with a sample size of 10 for a phone that sells tens of millions of units. ANY battery life comparisons that are made by reviewers or otherwise...

TSMC chips can get 2.5hrs extra compared to Samsung on iPhone 6S Plus

I was under the impression that the tests posted on MacRumors had different conditions, such as one having a SIM installed and the other without. I would certainly take these results with a grain of salt, and await further analysis from tech sites.

Whats the future of the apple ecosystem

Currently locked myself into the Apple ecosystem completely with the purchase of the iPhone 5S. Contract expired, didn't want to wait for the 6 as I smashed my previous phone screen in the lab. IOS8 and Yosemite's hand-off features are what really sealed the deal. It's been weird going from a...

    OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I'd just like to reiterate this, it would take very little of your time! Had obsidian dark menu bar mod installed in Mavericks and forgot to uninstall it before upgrading, after I tried to fix it I unfortunately removed a few of the system icons..

    OS X 10.10 Yosemite

Right I need some help please. I've been fiddling with my menu bar within Yosemite, but I've cocked it up and Accidentally didn't back up the core system files. If someone who has installed the beta could kindly go to "SSD/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu_Extras" and upload all of the files...

[WSJ] TSMC is shipping 20nm SOCs to Apple

Would it be possible for Apple to implement some form of hyper threading of their CPU cores in the future, maybe even for this forthcoming revision in the A8?

(AT) Apple's new 3D rendering API "Metal"

What are you smoking? I'd like some of it! Apples dual core Cyclone is vastly better than anything on the market right now in single threaded performance and can keep up with, whilst in some cases beat other SoCs in multithreaded scenarios.

Guess what will be announced at WWDC 14 tomorrow

You got me :whiste: That aside, looks like after three years I'll be jumping on the iOS bandwagon again from Android, it was either that or WP but the intergration between my Retina Pro and an iPhone looks to be a killer feature.

Guess what will be announced at WWDC 14 tomorrow

Wrong. They have usually made product announcements at past conferences. These include the Retina Macbook Pros and Mac Pro most recently.

Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2014 refresh?

Nothing that I've seen, will just assume a very minor CPU spec bump perhaps, maybe a slight GPU refresh as well but nothing too significant.

Apple buys Beats for $3.2 billion

MOG may have been purchased for that amount, however it was Jimmy Iovine who was able to secure the licensing contracts, and I believe that is where the money lies.

Apple buys Beats for $3.2 billion

There still isn't any phone of any size that can yet touch it's performance on a per-core basis, still smashing the quad cores out there. I think I'll be returning to iOS this year from a few years with HTC. Anyway, I digress. I think this beats move, whilst a substantial sum of money if it...

    New MBA

Because that difference is honestly significant, picking at straws, what's 200 grams if you genuinely want a Mac and a retina display in the 13" form factor. ^_^

    New MBA

Not to mention cheaper. I believe that a low resolution Air will continue to be the stepping stone to the Mac platform at the lower end of the Apple pricing spectrum, a 13" Retina Air would be price comparable to the 13" Retina Pro and for that reason I believe those lines will merge at some...

The new iPhone is rumored to have a 5.5" variant

I stand by 4.3" being the ideal size back from the SII and the Sensation days, I don't believe Apple will release a 5.5" variant.

    Anand: Apple's A7 Cyclone Microarchitecture Detailed (2014-03-31)

I am curious about the possibility of Apple using a big.LITTLE combination between a 64 bit variant of the Swift Cores and enchanted Cyclone Cores, what is the general consensus on that? Swift is in no means slow, but significantly less power-hungry than Cyclone, but would this work in practice?

1080p on the Retina Macbook Pros

I see no difference, if anything, the text shown on my display at 1920*1200 looks clearer and crisper than on any corresponding 15" laptop with a 1080p display. Have near perfect vision according to my optometrist when tested last year. Maybe just buy a windows laptop and you wouldn't have...

rMBP + Bodyguardz skin temperature increase?

From a thermal conductivity standpoint, it would would reduce the heat transfer coefficient of the bottom panel, hence I am certain there would be a slight temperature increase. However the base of the rMBP has minimal air flow anyway, Apple wouldn't have designed the machine so that the bottom...

    Fastest mobile phone processor (VERIZON)

I agree somewhat, but Apple wouldn't release a product which offers a sub-par user experience, performance wise, to what they want, maybe in a couple more generations. Still a vast amount of progress to be made in the mobile space, but I would personally rather see it in the battery life...

The FirePros in the Mac Pro don't exist outside it, some thoughts

Apple have been catering to the 'pro' market for many years and know what they're doing, I don't think 'pros' in the most part are stupid enough to base their purchases on marketing alone. Reading through your posts leads me to believe that you have a negative disposition towards Apple and...

The 2.6 will have slightly worse battery life under full load, but during light work you won't notice much difference. I think the chips would be binned so that the thermal output wouldn't differ much between the two?
