Extremely hot i7-2600k - much improved now - thanks

I'm having a similar problem with my Q9550 with a ZeroTHERM BTF90 HSF. I was running like 75C under load in games, so I cleaned the surfaces with rubbing alcohol and applied less paste than I had in the past. It was much improved for the first few days (around 55C during load I think?) But now...

    Core i5 760 + Asus P7P55 D-E O/C Issues

Yeah I did have it set to Manual, thats why its puzzling. For some reason I can't change it. Also: Is it normal for Asus boards to not be recoverable from non-posting settings other than to pull the Bios battery? My Giga-byte board has a dual bios, so if it can't post it just reverts to the...

    Core i5 760 + Asus P7P55 D-E O/C Issues

Just built a new rig for a friend, and I'm having troubles overclocking this setup. Ram is the Corsair Dominator 8gb 8/8/8/24 (2x2x2x2gb) kit if that matters. The main issue is that I can't seem to change the voltages on things like the CPU and RAM, even when following other peoples guides...

    ZeroTherm BTF90 mounting issues

2 years ago I built my rig with an Intel Q9550 and the above-mentioned HSF. The box is rather sparse on instructions, and even their website PDF has no pictures or much in the way of orientation instructions. Recently I've noticed that my idle temps are in the 45-50C range, when most people...

    Recommendations for Picture/Video/MP3 Player?

Yeah I saw those on Newegg, but although it was called an MP4 player, the specs didn't list any video formats. Maybe I need to just go to the Creative site and check directly. Reading more about the iRiver I don't think I want that. ZuneHD seems the closest match, although no MKV support and...

    Recommendations for Picture/Video/MP3 Player?

Why I ask this common question here is: I'm finally getting off my butt and working on my drawing skills after years of neglect. So basically I would like something that works well for bringing up pictures to display for pose assistance. Yet at the same time of course being good at video...

Western Digital RE3 vs Caviar Black 1TB

Thanks for the article. I think I'd rather spend the bit extra for it (buying a 2nd one and raid-striping later this summer has come to mind), and I'd rather not risk premature failure when dealing with 1TB of data :)

Western Digital RE3 vs Caviar Black 1TB

I've been doing homework on which new HDD to purchase for video editting projects and some general storage. As such I want a 1TB drive as I'm out of space in general atm, and need around 600gb of space for lossless video. The RE3 is at a hefty premium of $160 compared to the $110 for the...

    HD2900 lack of UVD

I've read that ATI inexplicably decided to not support UVD hardware in their HD2900 cards, but that the GPU would still support decoding features via using the stream-processors. Does anyone know how I can tell if this is the case? There is no "GPU performance" meter in the Catalyst drivers...

New build won't post, no video.

I've tried booting the computer with no CPU, memory, or video card and still don't receive any beeps at all. I'm leaning towards thinking I have a screwed up motherboard that needs an RMA?

New build won't post, no video.

I'm building a new system for a friend consisting of an Asus P5K-E motherboard and an Intel E6750 CPU along with 2gb of Mushkin extreme memory (Micron D9 chips, PC2 6400). For some reason the system refuses to post. All the fans run normally, the motherboard has power, but there is no beep or...

    Foxconn NF4SK8AA Won't Post

Oh thank god, I finally got it to post again. I noticed the video card became unseated slightly and then it posted. But I'm fairly sure that only got knocked loose when I tried switching monitors connected to it in the testing process. So probably something got borked and the CMOS reset fixed it.

    Foxconn NF4SK8AA Won't Post

I remember seeing the voltage on the memory saying 2.7V when it WAS working originally, so hmm... Reset the CMOS again, still no dice dammit...

    Foxconn NF4SK8AA Won't Post

PDC2G3200LLK is the product number on the ram. 2-3-2-5 timings listed And no I don't have another PSU lying around to test with, sorry. Think I should leave that Additional power connector thing plugged into the mobo?

    Foxconn NF4SK8AA Won't Post

Thermaltake PSU even, excuse me. Isn't that name-brand enough? I've used their CPU coolers for years, and the PSU had good reviews on Newegg. I should only need to have the CMOS battery out for like a minute, correct? Patriot dual channel memory.

    Foxconn NF4SK8AA Won't Post

Thermaltech 430W PSU, all that's in it is a SATA DVDR, SATA HDD, and a regular video card. The ATX12V is connected, as well as I connected power to the "Additional Power Connector" on the board. I can try unplugging that possibly, as maybe that is only for SLI mode, I'm not sure. It was...

    Foxconn NF4SK8AA Won't Post

I'm building a new box for a friend, and it initially posted without problems. So far so good. I set up the BIOS config and restart ... still good. I see the RAM is only running in single channel mode for some reason though. I moved the ram to the other channel slot and now I'm just getting...

    Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0

Is there any way to run it on Win Server 2003 SP1? I heard that it only runs on XP SP2. Or any way to fool it into working anyways?

    Trouble with language bar

I'm trying to enable the Language Bar on a system with Windows Server 2003 installed, and it refuses to appear on the taskbar. Under text services and input languages I turned on advanced text services (aka it is unchecked then), but the system still refuses to give me any choices under the...

    X2 affinity performace gains (a must read)UPDATED!!!

Is it worth using this on Win2K3 as well? For the speed of setting all the affinities at once, rather than 1 at a time. (See if it gives any performance gains for World of Warcraft)

    Benchmarks/Info on different Athlon64 versions?

Yes thats one of the boards I was looking at, but I read some bad things in the reviews about it, so I was leaning towards the MSI board. I was going to order from Zipzoomfly though if I went with the MSI board, because Newegg is currently out of stock on it. For the 3200+ they list an E4 and...

    Benchmarks/Info on different Athlon64 versions?

I'm helping a girl at work upgrade her computer system, but I'm having trouble deciding which processor I should get out of all the revisions. For example, the Athlon64 3000+ has Socket 754 and 939 versions, Venice and Winchester cores, a Revision E chip, etc. Is there info somewhere that cuts...

    Problem with X800XL card

I just got my new X800XL card (Giga-byte model) 256mb DDR3 and it has this high-pitched whirring sound, but when I slow the fan down with my finger there is no difference in the tone of the sound. Is this some kind of error sound tone coming from the card I don't know about? I'm at a loss...

    GPU Core/Memory Differences

Yeah, I guess a more concise question would be: Why do the better cards with the higher memory speeds have a slower core speed? (On a sidenote I was shocked that the current top cards now have 20 pipes as mine I bought less than 2 years ago had 8 ... I only really read up right before...

    GPU Core/Memory Differences

I see 2 main lines of Radeon AGP cards for the X800 line available -- one set has 400mhz Core/980mhz RAM, the other has 475mhz Core/900mhz RAM. Which is the better type to go with? Both seem to be reviewed highly on sites like newegg. The 400/980 *seems* to be the more advanced card via the...

    Pioneer DVR-108 DVD burner issue

Thats exactly what was wrong, I tried that the other night before reading here again now. What was tripping me up is that when seeing the PIO mode message ... it appears I can't choose anything else because there is no pull-down menu ... after I moved it back onto the mobo IDE I found out that...

    Pioneer DVR-108 DVD burner issue

I think this is the right forum for this. I'm having very slow burning speeds for the new DVR-108 I just bought. I had read issues people had saying to use an 80pin IDE cable and make sure its set to UDMA/4 mode, so I have both of those. I'm running Win2K SP4 and the burner is currently on the...

Sorting thru numbers game for best 9600Pro

What are other good Radeon card manufacturers other than Giga-byte? Theres so many nowadays that I'm wary of buying some of the cheaper 9600 Pro's bc they are probably cheaper for a reason ;) Whether its shoddy ram or something else.

Sorting thru numbers game for best 9600Pro

So realistically I could buy this card and overclock it a fair amount with no ill affects? (Assuming adequate cooling of course) Edit: Also, what do you think about the point that future games will be limited by raw GPU power, not by memory bandwidth. That would make this card basically perform...

Sorting thru numbers game for best 9600Pro

I know that with the number of different manufacturers making 9600 cards, that there is a large difference between the different flavors. In hitting up a number of pages it seems the GigaXCube (Giga-byte) 9600 Pro Ultra cards appear to be the best out there, am I wrong? (they use Samsung memory...
