Corrupted screen at POST, Windows won't recognize 8800 GTX

I installed a new GTX 950 today, what a difference in performance, even with my old mobo/CPU. Thanks all for the suggestions.

My 8800 GTX had 2 x 6-pin connectors, so no issues there.

Corrupted screen at POST, Windows won't recognize 8800 GTX

I'm not ready to build a new system, maybe in a year or two. The 8800 GTX can play some games at 2560x1440 now...I have played Lego Hobbit on steam at this resolution. Granted, it doesn't run at 60fps, but I don't need that. I'm not looking to play that latest games at all, much less at high...

Corrupted screen at POST, Windows won't recognize 8800 GTX

Hello, Today I noticed some strange artifacts on my screen starting to randomly develop, and after several switches between a blank screen and the desktop, the system restarted itself. I was concerned to see there were several vertical lines down the screen at the POST screen of my ASUS P5Q...

Windows created Local Disk (Z:), how to remove?

Never mind, I saw a solution posted on Tom's and it worked. Turns out the Temp drive was mapped to Z: for some reason, probably that image viewer I installed.

Windows created Local Disk (Z:), how to remove?

I encountered something bizarre in Windows 7 Pro and was hoping someone out there could help. A few days ago I noticed in Explorer that under Computer, in addition to the expected Local Disk (C) and Local Disk (D), there is also a Local Disk (Z). On the drive, there are several folders and...

Wireless switch not working after replacing LAN adapter on Toshiba Satellite M100

The original wireless LAN adapter is an Intel 3945. I found an Intel 4965 and tried it, but still no luck. It recognizes the hardware and installs the driver just fine, but it says that that the wireless radio button is off. The switch is on, but the amber light does not turn on. I'm really...

Wireless switch not working after replacing LAN adapter on Toshiba Satellite M100

I replaced my Mini PCI-E wireless LAN adapter, and it seemed to install the driver and recognize the card fine. Problem is it only has one antenna connector, whereas the original card had two. I didn't think that would be a problem and I just hooked up one of them, but when I turned on the...

    Flash player memory leak?

Yes, I have tried both IE9 and Chrome. The problem exists with equal severity for all of them. Ironically, Firefox seems to have the least amount of slowdown of the three browsers.

It would seem that way, but I set the local storage settings to 10KB max, so it shouldn't be.

    Flash player memory leak?

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's not really an option for me. It's a review course for a medical licensing exam. It also wasn't cheap, and they are very adamant about going after people who copyright infringe, so I don't want to risk it. Plus I don't really feel comfortable doing that...

    Flash player memory leak?

I'm taking an online course with Flash video lectures. I noticed that every video gets progressively slower as they progress, and are basically a slide show by the end. I pulled up Task Manager during one and watched the Physical Memory Usage go from 35% to 65% in one 90 minute video. This has...

Is upgrading RAM from 4GB to 8GB worth it?

Thanks all for the input. I think I'm just going to wait it out until I have to time and money to upgrade my whole system. It's looking like you all were right about it not being a memory problem. I know this is probably for another forum, but I'm taking an online course with Flash video...

Is upgrading RAM from 4GB to 8GB worth it?

Has anyone out there seen a performance increase when going from 4GB DDR2 to 8GB DDR2? I use Windows 7 64 bit pro, and I've noticed some slow-down and even the occasional freeze when watching Flash movies in IE and other random situations. Right now I don't have time for games (and won't for a...

    Question about memory upgrade

Not sure if this is for the motherboard or the memory section. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit. I have 4 GB of RAM currently (2 X Kingston 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM KVR800D2N5/2G). A friend gave me two Mushkin 2 GB sticks to throw in there (part 991850) to make it 8GB, but after installing...

router assigning 169 instead of 192; connection won't work

Her laptop is Windows XP Pro SP3, same with the other PC. Do I set up a static IP from the router or from the laptop? I think I remember how to do it through TCP/IP settings in the control panel, but I'm curious if there's a better way. I noticed I can "reserve" the IP assignment through the...

router assigning 169 instead of 192; connection won't work

Every once in a while, my wife's laptop will connect with an IP address starting with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx instead of the usual 192.168.0.xxx. When this happens, her network connection doesn't work. Weird thing is, when I go into the router GUI, it shows an IP address of 192.168.0.xxx assigned to...

how do I add icon in Save as... menu?

In MS Word 2003, when I go to the Save as... menu, on the left there are some icons lined up vertically (My Recent Documents, Desktop, My Documents, etc.). Is there a way I can add my own custom shortcuts there? It would save me a lot of time. I'm using Windows XP Pro SP3.

    System tray icons missing

Does anyone know why sometimes when I turn my computer on, some of the icons in the system tray don't show up? It's weird because they usually appear, but sometimes they just decide not to show. What can cause this? Is it some registry setting? I'm using Windows XP SP3.

    MAC address filter and WPA2/AES

OK, thanks for the info. Out of curiosity, why is MAC filtering worthless? It seems to me that limiting connections to uniquely identified machines would be a simple way to prevent unwanted users. I know it's possible to spoof MAC addresses, but how would someone know which address to spoof?
