    External DVD Drive

My sister is getting a net book for christmas. She is going to need to load programs and what not, so I've decided to get her an external DVD drive as netbooks don't have one in them. I've found this one. They all look pretty much the same. Here is the list on the site I want to buy from . I...

    Nvidia GT 320

So, my family will be buying a new computer. The one I think were going with comes with the NVidia GT 320. I would like some feedback on this card. What is it comparable too? I know its pretty low end, but I would like a little more specifics then that. Its hard to find reviews, because its an...

    HP Prebulit

This is true. Like I said earlier, I don't see my self upgrading the RAM any time soon. I think this is the one! My parents would rather not ordering. After browsing the BestBuy flyer (again) I've come across this acer model. i7 870 4gb RAM GT 320 :( That graphic card is pretty crappy isn't it?

    HP Prebulit

That i5 build looks great :D The only thing I don't like about it is, once again, the two available memory slots. I could probably live with this though :p

    HP Prebulit

Question. Would the hexacore help or hurt general usage. The idea of six cores grabbed me at first. I mean look at all those cores! But after doing a little reading, it seems like hexacores are more suited for video related work. The computer would be used to light usage and mild gaming. I can't...

    HP Prebulit

Yah, I assumed as much. But its not going to blow up or anything and fry the components? Assuming I don't draw too much power.

    HP Prebulit

I'm not sure whats going on with that. Because in the name is 512MB. But further down in the description and in the specs its listed as 1GB. So I'm not really sure whats going on. The two available memory slots was kind of a let down, but I don't see my self upgrading beyond 4gb any time...

    HP Prebulit

Yah, they're open to stuff. It was just that was the best I could find. Thanks for pointing that out. That one looks good. The 5770 isn't great, but its better then a 5570. Any feedback on that one?

    HP Prebulit

Any by quality I meant the level of parts you can get for your money versus those that come in a pre-built of equal cost.
  11. Z

    HP Prebulit

Sharpie, its not that bad. I just think most people here realize the kind of quality you can get by building it your self. I wouldn't blame them for recommending that path. Good advice Blain. I have some money saved up, so I figure I can put it in to upgrading this computer. New power supply...

    Help me with a build?

Because I am 16, I live with my family and I will be using the computer for gaming. I probably should have mentioned that.

    Help me with a build?

Never mind. They have said a definite no.
  14. Z

    HP Prebulit

I tried asking about building, but they do not want to build it. I'm also a little worried about building it. I know everything show plug in nicely but $1000 bucks is a lot to have on your kitchen table. I understand most of the stuff in it will be low end crap, but what else can I do?
  15. Z

    HP Prebulit

Yes I did. It was going to be $800, with 2GB less ram, a 6850. Other then that basically the same stuff. I couldn't convince the rest of the family to go with building it. I feel bad cause you did a lot of work on that build and I didn't even use it. So we're going prebuilt and this was the best...

    HP Prebulit

I am aware, but its the best pre-built I can find for a thousand. The 23" monitor is pretty good. I can always upgrade the graphic card later (and the PSU, cause I'm pretty sure its 300W).

    Best Antivirus?

Have you heard good things about it? That's what I was thinking. I can't see it having anything more then the windows firewall. You're probably right about MSE, but convincing my parents to not buy an antivirus would be hard.

    Best Antivirus?

My family is going to be getting a new computer soon. It's going to need an antivirus. We have McAfee on the current computer, and its alright but it slows down a lot of tasks. And when its scanning nothing can be done. In an effort to find something reliable I've come across VIPRE. Have you...

    HP Prebulit

So, my family is getting a new computer. I wanted to build it thinking it would be cheaper and I would get better components. After tinkering around with builds for a few weeks, I got something I was satisfied with, but it wasn't that much cheaper. And considering it would be my first build, I...

So do I have the crappiest rig here?

Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.80GHz 1GB of Ram Radeon 9200 It's over five years old. :( Building a new one quite soon. Quadrupling the CPU and the Memory. The graphic card isn't even comparable.

Thanks Zap. :D I guess all go with that one. Looks good. Has every necessary to hook it up. Like I said before, I don't mind paying a bit more for the component that makes the other components work. Thanks again.

How To Put Together A Computer

I hope I don't have to use you guys when I'm doing that actual building. Fingers are crossed! Little apprehensive about this "barebones" install out side of the case. Seems like its more work that really isn't necessary. I'd rather not manipulate my mother board with a metal object :p I'm...

Okay. I will add the second hard drive. Pushes the build over $800, a price point I want to stay under, but it is a requirement. And like you say, could save me lots of money in the event of a failure.

Custom Build Comparable to this Prebuilt

Okay. So the 430cx is fine? With either to Zotac 460, or the Sapphire Radeon 6850? If so, that's great news because I save like 60 bucks on the power supply. The average use of the computer from my family is internet browsing, and my computer is rarely left on when not in use. So the lifespan...

How To Put Together A Computer

lmao. I guess I'll try that. Here's what I've got so far :P For only $200 more, we get a solid quad core processor, the graphics card is ten fold what the 5450 is and every part is higher quality. Then later down the road, if something fails or we need to upgrade, I can do it. We don't have to...

How To Put Together A Computer

Custom Build Comparable to this Prebuilt

Okay. That sounds good. I guess I'm going with the 6850 when ever it is back in stock. I was curious. So I'm right, it won't save that much money? I'd rather not drop down the Athlon, because losing the L3 cache seems to have a significant affect on performance.

Custom Build Comparable to this Prebuilt

But doesn't that 6850 require the 2x6 PCI-E connecter? The 430CX doesn't have that. At least that's what I got from ther00kie's post... Out of curiosity, could someone do a dual core build for me? I need it to be a decent amount cheaper then the current 955 build. The builds I throw together...

How To Put Together A Computer

It's not so much making it look pretty, as making everything work. How hard is it to figure where each plug goes? It seemed in the pictures like everything had at least two wires/coming and going/ The case had about 4 going to the motherboard, and the motherboard didn't seem to give any...
