Does anyone have any real world experience regarding how long a multimode fiber transmitter lasts?
I need to buy some GBICs, but they are very expensive. I'm going to get some used ones, but if I do will they crap out on me in 1 year?
Here's the situation. I'm at home right now, I'm remotely connecting to a server at work. It has built-in management capabilities, so I can access the bios/scsi config/etc.
Right now it has 2 logical drives in it.
The first is a 9gb, completely empy
The second is a RAID 5 array with the...
I've got this hitachi 73gb scsi drive hooked to an adaptec pci card in my computer, and it's only transfering at 9.2mb/sec according to HDTach. My crappy 20gb maxtor drive is faster...what's the deal?
I'm currently using a 160mb/sec scsi card, but I've tried it in an older 40mb/sec card (both...
I used to have a program that would tell me how long it takes to start windows... but I can't seem to find it.
Anyone have something like this??
Thanks!

So I "went all out" (at least in my opinion) and bought one of these new PowerColor PCIe capture cards.
It's supposed to be the bomb and whatnot, but the stupid thing won't let me record anything.
No matter what I'm watching or doing it says the content it copy protected. Apparently the...
Ok, so I have a motherboard, case, power supply and some memory, so I just need the rest.
The motherboard is an ASUS P4S533
Memory is 2 x 256mb PC2100
power supply is an antec 300w
I was thinking something like a 2ghz P4 for this. I actually have a busted 2ghz P4. If anyone knows how to...
I was planning on buying one of the new ATI Threatre 550 based capture cards and today I found one that uses PCIe 1x on Newegg. Anyone have one of these yet??
I was dying to get one, but all I could find was the PCI version.

I think I'm going to get myself one of these, but everywhere I've looked it's only PCI.
Or at least it looks like a PCI. Check out the sapphire site for instance:

Right there, in that picture, it's clearly a PCIe...
I recently setup a RAID 1 (mirroring) with 2 300gb drives. It works great and everything, but what happens when one of the drives dies or has a bad sector or something?
Worst case scenario, when one drive dies... how do I get my data back?
From what I'm reading I think the only way is to...
I get these grayish rolling bars on my tv when I use the TV-out on my video card. I'm using the S-Video output, going to the input on my VCR, and that is going to the TV via S-Video.
I have a laptop with TV-out and I don't get the bars when I do it the same way (TV out -> VCR -> TV)
It's a...
I know that if I put a higher speed stick in, it will typically operate at the lower speed, but has anyone had any actual experience with this?
I have a laptop that takes PC2100, and I've found that PC3200 and PC2700 is cheaper.

I have an IDE card in my computer, and every time I start my computer there is a screen that shows up and detects the drives. I don't see why they can't just add a little chip on there to save the configuration so it doesn't lag my startup.
My motherboard also has an integrated IDE controller...
I want to be able to connect securely to a proxy server from anywhere so I can always have a secure internet connection. Is this possible? Like this:
[Me... from anywhere] -> (Secure SSL Connection) -> Proxy -> Internet
You can always specify a proxy server in whatever web browser you're...
I have a video card with TV out. I'm using it as my extended desktop, and by default it extends it to the right.
How can I extend it to the left??
THanks.

I got a kick out of that, figured maybe someone else might. People are stupid.
I bought a refurb card from newegg. It comes with a 15 day warranty, so I want to run it as hard as I can over those 15 days to be sure it won't crap out shortly after.
So what kind I benchmarks can I run to stress it AS HARD AS POSSIBLE?
Any info is appreciated, thanks.
